So, Wael invites BG up to his office overlooking the Mem on the new manager's first day at work, and excitedly gets out a dusty old box. He opens the silk-lined box to reveal an ancient brass lamp. 'This,' Wael explains, 'is the secret to my family's success. My grandfather found it in the deserts of Jordan and recognised it as a djinni's lamp. Every generation it grants three wishes. You merely rub the lamp and the djinni will appear and will grant you a wish.'

'My grandfather knew, however, that djinni's are dicks and so you have to be very careful of what you wish for. He simply wished for a happy life for himself and his wife and he wished that his son would become rich. And sure enough his son, my father, did become rich. So, a generation passed and then it was my father's turn to have three wishes. He was also very careful and unselfish, and he wished for my brother Hani to be a successful banker, and he wished for Samer to own successful hotels, and because he knew of my life's passion he wished that I would be president of a football club that played in blue, with white socks. And sure enough I am now president of Bristol Rovers.'

'Djinni's really are dicks,' thought BG, but didn't say anything.

'That was a generation ago and now I have taken the lamp from my father in order to help Bristol Rovers. I gave DC a wish, and then I gave GC a wish, and now you can have the last wish.

'Why don't you use a wish to wish for a new state of the are stadium?' asked BG.

'It's only a f**king djinni,' said Wael, 'it doesn't do miracles.'

'Ok,' said GC, 'Out of interest what did the other two wish for?'

'DC wished for two strikers worth £300,000 each,' said Wael, 'I told you djinnis were dicks. And GC asked that every time we play sh**e we still get three points. So the djinni, being a dick, made sure we played sh**e nearly every week.'

So, BG's mind begins to race, thinking about what he is going to wish for. Does he wish for the ability to deliver stirring half-time team talks? Does he wish for wingbacks who can cross and tackle (probably a bit too ambitious), does he wish for a squad of youngsters he can mold to his forward-thinking and ground-breaking tactical brain?

Wael hands him the lamp, and he rubs it gently. Nothing happens. Wael nods encouragingly, and so BG rubs a bit harder. But still nothing happens. Then he gives it everything, rubbing the lamp for all he's worth, but still, nothing.

'Come to think of it,' says Wael, 'last time I spoke to GC, he did say 'I wish I lived a bit closer to Sheffield.''

When Dc was in charge and we played exciting football with brown/bodin/Taylor...we won games and the attendance was high.

GC won games and people didn’t turn up but the morons want him back playing sh** football and all he had was sh** off fans saying coughlan out/ p.e teacher doesn’t know what he’s doing!!!

To all those constantly calling for BG to be sacked. We are getting better and the scoreline flattered Wycombe. We had 53% possession 19 shots and six on target. Yes ww didnt win that will come but your Messiah GC didnt often get close to those match stats with his boring strategy
