Didn't we run out to Also Sprach Zarathustra for a bit in the late 90s (or did I imagine it?). Yes that definitely rings a bell (sorry). Some others we have used in the past include Runaway when we were at Twerton. Right here, right now..Fat boy slim. Kashmir..Led Zepplin. I'm sure i can remember Liquidator for a time at Eastville. I remember Liquidator at Eastville, and at half time, Last train to Skaville, and Skinhead Moonstomp. Also Na Na Na HeyHey Kiss him good bye by Steam (Original version), and Hey Jude, all of which got the crowd singing along

The Rocky theme has been used as far back as 1990 and I don't recall us using many others. I have some vague recollection that we may have used Chumbawumba for a handful of games possibly around 2007? Pretty sure there was a break of many years before Rocky came back.

Some good memories here. Del Shannon pre-match at Twerton was great with the rocky theme for the teams coming out as torn up yellow pages streamed into the Twerton night sky. Happy days. Latterly Chumbawumba represented somewhat of a low point musically speaking.

I recall more than a few plays of Jumpin' Jack Flash as the players made their way onto the pitch.

Did we ever run out to 'Hi Ho Bristol Rovers' (can't remember the proper title) or am I tripping? Hmmmmm, I definitely remember singing it at least!

Hi everyone, I hope this okay to post here, moderators please move or delete if you need to. I have posted this message previously on the gasheads page, but have been told I should head here for extra info. I’m part of a team at the University of Sheffield, led by Dr Chris Stride. We've published a number of academic papers and magazine articles relating to football history, on subjects such as statues and replica shirts (see, for example sportingstatues.com, and www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17460263.2019.1578255). Our current project is investigating the music that football teams have run or walked out of the tunnel to over the years. We are looking for the music that Bristol Rovers have run out to, for as many seasons in the past as you can recall. We are simply interested in the title of the song, the artist who recorded it, and for which seasons Bristol Rovers ran out to this. Any help you can give us to piece together the different songs that your club has run out to would be hugely appreciated. We've been in contact with former pitchside announcer Nick Day, who has informed us that major tune over the last 25 years has been the Rocky theme, Gonna Fly Now. Can anyone remember which was often played before Nick's time? you are able to remember roughly which seasons the tracks were used in that is very helpful. If you have any personal anecdotes around the reasons for the songs being used, or the changes between them, that would also be fantastic. I should also add that we are not interested in goal music, or a song that is played at the final whistle, but just the song that is on the tannoy system as the players enter the field. If you think someone else may be able to help, or you have any questions, please let us know! We would be very happy to discuss the project. Cheers Joe Headland When you have finished listening to music and watching football are you planning to get a proper job. Why are you wasting money learning about music football players walk out too.? What is the point in this f**king course? University had to change because we now want everyone going there, and as that’s the case, it has expanded past it’s roots of being a place only the most intelligent go to work out how to solve things like cancer, complex mathematical and engineering challenges etc, and it now offers a range of courses in all walks of life. Mainly this is funded by the student so be aware, while you believe these courses are useless (and rest assured, nearly every employer in the country agrees with you, they are useless) don’t forget they provide lots of jobs for the academic employees, lecturers etc and the large corporations who run them. Essentially further education is now actually further education (as most remember, eminently worthwhile) and a selection of courses designed to get the “I have a degree” on the CV whilst remaining quite fun. For the 23 jobs available for the 300 people nationwide doing the “football music degree” or the 0 jobs available in pop stardom for the 87,000 doing the music technology degree, I wish them all the best of luck with the student loan repayments and hope the resentment towards the educationa establishment who sold you this colossal waste of time isn’t enduring!

Just imagine, if people saved their time and didn't learn such frivolous and pointless activities such as singing and making music, we'd never have this thread 😉 So whilst something may not be financially positive, it's important to remember the other things that certain subjects add to life. I'll just go back and tell Leadbelly he should stop dreaming of Irene and take up accounting or something proper 😋

I’ve been playing instruments since age 8 and I would wager this is of more value to music than operating Cubase. Having been paid for it commercially, I can state that at no point was I asked for my qualifications! Each to their own, I would be very careful in recommending my own children take these degrees and the £40k debt to make the world a better place. Minimum wage and a large student loan isn’t much fun. It’s very easy at 18 to think it’s your calling, because nobody wants to be an accountant.

I have a degree in Liberal Arts, at my own expense (student loans) and obviously that is worth less than the paper it's written on. "Transferable skills" they say. Simply having studied at Bristol was enough to get me into an engineering job (go figure) who put me through a Technology degree. 🤓 So, all is not lost even if the first educational foray is lacking in capitalist potential... I think it boils down to: If someone wants to take a loan out and study something that interests them, then I don't really think anybody else's opinion matters more than the oxygen it took to think it 😉

There are, however, plenty of technical jobs behind the scenes in the music and eventing industry that a few years studying a bit, working a bit, volunteering a bit, allows someone better education and knowledge/skills, than simply bashing out a 9-5 at Primark singing in their bedroom hoping to make it big someday. We could talk for hours... Someone said something earlier in this thread that was completely uncalled for, and has gotten my back up a bit! I'll get the kettle on 😌
