Remember Labour doing a rapid “about turn” over the legislation over the Freedom of Movement legislation not to long ago. Took about 90 minutes if I recall. So, yes, nothing new or unique to be seen here.

Totally agree, they all remind me of kids in the playground and I find it utterly despairing, just for once in my lifetime I would love to see politicians do exactly as you say change direction when it's the right thing to do and opposition party's not try to force an apology and avoid crowing. In my experience no one makes the right decisions all the time and we frequently changed strategy in both Banks I worked for at a senior level,no one at Board meeting crowed we just got on with execution. Blimey...Execution. And there was me thinking Banks were there to help people with their finances. 😳 Whatever gave you that impression 😂😂

Cabinet Minister Penny Mordaunt has written to Boris requesting that he use the foreign aid budget to build two new super yachts for the royal family to replace The Royal Yacht Britannia. Nice to see that during a global pandemic she has got her priorities in order with regard to where over seas aid could be best spent.

We’ve already seen the re-branding of a plane for BJ to sell the UK brand. This lot are making it up as they go along. BJ is very different to most PMs we’ve had and he goes off at tangents so that no one, even his own side aren’t really sure what will happen.

It's not really using Overseas Aid Budget to buy two Royal Yachts, more a Portsmouth MP shoring up jobs. The idea for hospital ships capable of supporting the Royal Navy as well as humanitarian and disaster relief (often utilising, in part, Overseas Aid funds) has been mooted since the Blair years. As I understand things, the retirement of Britannia without replacement has had a noticeable effect on some of the diplomatic efforts and she is following on from the aircraft repainting plan and department merger. www.google.com/amp/s/www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/defence/boris-johnson-asked-penny-mordaunt-be-bold-retrofitting-uk-vessel-succeed-royal-yacht-britannia-2887780%3famp"She has put forward the concept of ‘highly flexible vessels’ that could be deployed to humanitarian crises, taking the strain from the 'grey hulls’ of Royal Navy warships – while also being used to bring an economic boost for Britain. Such ships would act as a UK Aid Maritime capability, Ms Mordaunt writes, and be UK-flagged and controlled. The ‘Britannia 2.0’ concept vessels ‘have been rightly seen as a successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia,’ Ms Mordaunt said in her letter. Crucially, Ms Mordaunt has suggested private, research, commercial and charity cash could be brought in to fund the vessels, alongside funding from the aid budget. Conceived as ‘a highly flexible facility’, they could be deployed as a university hospital, used by the Royal Navy ‘in times of strain’, or Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Border Force – or by the Foreign Office to repatriate British nationals."

I get the "promoting business in her constituency" quite right to. But to suggest there is free commercial cash for this and more laughably, charity cash, destroys her credibility.

TBF Oldie the word “free” didn’t actually appear in the article, just that it was available (allegedly). But would say there is room to better explain who/what those sources are and the “quid pro quo” that they involve.

Yes mate, but I didn't mean free as in the dictionary definition, but as in "free cash flow" I should have explained that better, agreed.

It looks like Starmer is trying to draw attention at this early stage to a difference between him and BJ. He’ll get little opportunity to show his qualities in the years ahead with the Conservatives having a sizeable majority in a way that will make any difference. Because of that he will take every opportunity to show his judgement and ability to be decisive in a situation. Starmer has got a few years to show his qualities and trying to show that the Labour Party is not anti-Semitic must be very important in these early months of his leadership.

Gets rid of a Corbynista after the original attempt of pacifying the left by her appointment, gets the Jewish Labour vote back on board and a compare and contrast scenario with Johnson. The problem comes if and when one of his genuine allies does something sackable.

Maxine Peak is entitled to her views, but a shadow cabinet member being to stupid to not understand the sensitivities in the Labour Party over anti semitism by tweeting that just exposes her stupidity. w**ker, get rid.

I’m pleased to see Jenrick hasn’t been allowed to slip into obscurity either. It went under the radar when it was first reported because of CV but now has been dragged kicking and screaming back under the microscope where is belongs. For those beating the BLM drum this is of serious consequence- if we want to eradicate poverty how are we going to do that when the present government are to all appearances taking kick backs to build homes for the rich?
It’s there for all to see that real change can only begin with getting this mob out of office.

Whilst I might agree with you over Jenrick it’s going to be another full government term before we get a choice over who will be the next government. They have a large majority and only 6 months ago the country overwhelmingly supported them and BJ. The means of achieving what they promised to won’t worry BJ too much. He has a list of stuff he wants to tick off and I’m pretty sure he’s not worried about the means to do it. However he won’t like it that Jenrick acted like an idiot and got found out but as with Cummings, he’ll take the heat for a few days. The danger for Jenrick will be that it goes on longer. Now that Starmer has done what he did with Long-Bailey BJ might feel the need to do something similar if it doesn’t die off after a few days. Once the CV 19 stuff starts to disappear off the front pages it may give Starmer some space to really attack the government. Not that it will have much effect. Unfortunately BJ can do more or less what he wants if he can find the money. If we were within a year of the next election it would be different but we’re not.
