Didn’t realise a GE was 2.5 years away still. A lot can happen in that time

Ok she's gone nuts and is totally out of touch with reality. Presumably she was showered with advice and words of caution by economists in the Civil Service, but chose to go ahead anyway, and now has no answers except to blame Putin.
But she cannot realistically apologise, backtrack or do a u-turn after 3 weeks in power, or just over a week really, since Britain stopped for 10 days after the Queen's death.

Not sure she'll do much this side of conference, possibly next weekend. Her appearances over the next week will be car crash TV without a sudden improvement.

Eppinggas 😂 ( From t’other forum )
Update: Jo Cox's old constituency. Maybe a Labour sympathy vote? Odds are tightening on a Conservative victory. They don't look like attractive odds to me. Con: 8-15 (0.533) Lab: 7-4 (1.750) Heavy Woollen District Independents, Libdems, Greens: 100-1
If Labour lose this one as well... then they're even deader than they were after the Hartlepool By-election. My personal theory as follows. I think the fundamental reason Labour are so f*cked... is that they strapped themselves to the Remain movement after the Brexit Referendum. Labour MP's did everything in their power to stop the UK leaving the EU. Swathes of working class traditional Labour supporting northerners in clear "Leave" seats felt betrayed by their MP's. The clever MP's like Lisa Nandy realised how dangerous it was to speak up for remaining within the EU (or indeed to back the catastrophic Labour policy of re-negotiating a deal with the EU - then to campaign against the deal they just secured in a second referendum. WTF?!?). People are still voting along Brexit lines, they are not returning to the Labour Party. ISTM that the only way forward is for Sir Keir to purge the far left. Just like Neil Kinnock did in 1983. Labour then had to wait 14 years to gain power. So I reckon that means we are looking at a Labour Government in around 2035 :-)
Chin up. Sir Keir hasn't really started to purge the far left. So 'earliest' will be 2035. In reality I reckon it will be more like 2040.
*The only bit of credit he gets is he was right that Starmer had to purge the hard left ….. and he has.

Mind you, the Conservatives need to purge the hard right (mainly ERG), funny how they are acceptable but the hard left isn't.

Not all of them are that dogmatic. There are plenty of 'One Nation Tories' such as Greg Clark and Tobias Ellwood who are almost normal. 😁

Even just speaking causes a fall, just how incompetent are they??
"The pound has slipped again, reversing earlier gains, after Prime Minister Liz Truss and Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng met with the fiscal watchdog and confirmed markets would have to wait until 23 November for updated economic forecasts (see 11.41 post), writes Sky News business reporter Nicholas Lester."

This will test their Free Market credentials vs jobs/votes in northern England during their party conference. "The owners of Britain's second-biggest steel producer are seeking an urgent package of financial support from taxpayers amid renewed fears for thousands of industrial jobs in the north of England. Sky News has learnt that Jingye Group, which bought British Steel out of insolvency in 2020, has told ministers that the company's two blast furnaces are unlikely to be viable without government aid. British Steel, which is headquartered in Scunthorpe, north Lincolnshire, employs about 4,000 people, with thousands more jobs in its supply chain dependent upon the company." news.sky.com/story/british-steels-chinese-owner-seeks-huge-government-aid-package-12708894

Levelling Up or Levelling Down? "One of Liz Truss's closest political allies has doubled down on the government's economic policy, with warnings that major cuts in public spending are to come. Levelling Up Secretary Simon Clarke, who is among the prime minister's inner circle, has told The Times that the British people need to expect significant cuts in public spending, because for too long the West has been living in a "fool's paradise". Following on from Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's tax-cutting mini-budget, he said the government needs to make sure the "extremely large" state is in "full alignment with a lower tax economy"." news.sky.com/story/truss-ally-says-spending-cuts-on-the-way-as-government-plans-to-align-extremely-large-state-with-low-tax-economy-12708877
