Seems as though the coronavirus has finally hit home at our football club.
Some office staff and the shop staff have been offered the chance to take voluntary redundancy. Sad that it has come to this, but I suppose it is inevitable given that there is no money coming in. It will be a rather strange experience going in the shop. But it then begs the question, who will be behind the counter?
With the 233% increase in sales volumes recently reported it must have been the last thing on the minds of the staff.

Sad news. Best of luck to those that do need to seek other employment.

Not sure of the relevance. If only because I don't give a sh*t what happens over there. We have very few staff, so the immediate effect of any redundancies is far more traumatic in our case. Or do you think it's ok because he has let his staff go?

What happens in this instance if the voluntary redundancy isn’t taken?
Voluntary is 10x better than standard redundancy. Those who fancy a change can choose to go with a better pay out than if they just give their notice in.
Of course some employers force employees out this way if there is one position and it’s put up for voluntary redundancy.
Now isn’t the best time to be out of work though.

Have the club, or individuals involved, actually confirmed this is a fact and not just another rumour? Assuming it is true then I don't really see an issue with club employees being offered VR, it only becomes an issue when redundancies are forced as is presently taking place at Bristol Sport.

I would even go as far as to say that voluntary redundancy might be a smart move for the club to take in this economic environment. The crucial thing is no-one is being forced to lose their jobs but if a few do want to move on, they can do so with a good redundancy package with the club getting to reduce it's fixed costs a little going into next season. It's actually quite generous, a lot of employers I know won't offer it.

Whilst I agree with what you say, the cynical part of me thinks it's a shame that some off-the-field staff members are being offered voluntary redundancy whilst we're signing multiple players for presumably good contracts. Not criticising the club per se - we absolutely need to be strengthening the squad and on-field improvement allows off-field prosperity - but moreso a shame that football in general does this (even more frustrating at the highest level).

Could this be another attack at the ownership? Relentless. Efforts are applauded.

Where is the official evidence that this is happening?

Can always rely on gasincider to spread sad/bad news about our club. Not saying it isn't true by the way, and it's a real shame if it is. Particularly as we seem to be investing quite heavily on the football side of things lately, so I would have hoped that the club staff in other areas would have their jobs protected for a while longer, if possible.
Still, I don't know the ins and outs of the finances, so I'm not in a position to judge this too harshly.

I think it's best to wait until the club release a statement about it, don't you?

A great shame that the person who has broken this news should care to release it to the last person on earth or perhaps that was intentional so he would break the news.

Well right now, no one has left, and no one HAS to leave. It’s not compulsory redundancy, it’s voluntary. So basically, for example, if you have someone who is 64 and about to retire at 65 and can retire, if they offered themselves to be made redundant the club would put forward a severance package.

Can always rely on gasincider to spread sad/bad news about our club. Yeah. The training ground is an unmitigated disaster.

Two times, first when the club purchased the land and second when the club starting developing it, the news came out the blue from a club statement, not one of your gossip threads.

Martin Starnes is about that age is he not?
