I mean, you've just done the same thing again despite me still not mentioning Brexit. My true thoughts are that I don't feel comfortable to put money into someone's pocket who thinks it's acceptable to put people out of a job during a lockdown. Again, nothing to do with Brexit. Oh for heaven’s sake. I haven’t at any point put words into your mouth. I have never tried to suggest what you’re saying, I have merely asked a question. You don’t like Mr Weatherspoon because he didn’t furlough his staff. You haven’t mentioned Brexit. You also haven’t answered my question. That’s your prerogative and I really don’t care. Its a good job you’re not a fish. You're the one pushing the brexit argument with insinuations.. Its got nowt to do with Brexit it's an opinion formed on dignity and respect and how you treat people, it's really that simple.. He described the current pandemic as just a "health scare".. No sh**.. My opinion is the bloke is pondlife and that's my opinion.. Couldn't care less about yours..

Spoons have always been quite handy in what they provide, food and drink at a cost that is appealing to, amongst others, those people that may struggle to pay the prices elsewhere, and with prices pushing £6 a pint in some pubs on Gloucester Road, they can not complain if someone tries to do it for £2 cheaper. They also provide a perfect meeting place on away games, in some far flung outpost, before moving on to somewhere local, and better.
Tim Martin may have been vocal in his opinions on Brexit, but 'intelligent' he most certainly was not. He was so clearly out of his depth on Question Time, that he came across as someone who couldn't actually find his arse with both hands. It was car crash television. He didn't cover himself in glory with regards to the furlough scheme either, but I should imagine most people will forget that quite soon, just as they have Sainsbury's, as well as Tesco, Aldi, and Iceland, for selling us all horse disguised as beef. Those boycotts didn't last very long after all.
Pubs will always be a more exciting and tempting prospect before a match, when a pint in most club houses resembles having a drink in 'Phoenix Nights'. They really need to move with the times a bit, if wanting to add fans' pre and post match beer money to their coffers.

Residents have said the pub will bring 'alcohol-fuelled football supporters'.
If they didn't want alcohol-fuelled football supporters on their streets on the weekend, then they shouldn't have opposed us leaving Horfield in 2014. Can't have it both ways.

In the end weatherspoons did furlough the staff and has took them all back on and has done a good job of updating them and bringing in safety measures - having a daughter who supplements her Student loan by working in a spoons round her uni work I will still be supporting the soulless microwaved tasteless beer and hope others do so she can keep a job but it’s all down to choice.

Some of the aggressive comments on here seems like some people have been in the pub a little to long Maybe the nimbays were right about drunken football hooligans 😂🤣

Can't have it both ways. As opposed to all the other pubs already on Glos Rd? Or what about the 'alcohol-fuelled humans'?

'bohemian haven' was my favourite quote from the article. These people are so far up their own arses!

Congratulations, you have obviously added mind reading skills to your list of powers in that you’ve decided what Bishopston’s thought processs are. I wonder if you’ve also managed to deduce that I was trying to have a bit of banter? Perhaps not. I respect your opinion of Mr Weatherspoon. It’s different to mine. He makes it possible for people to have a few drinks and a meal at a reasonable price. Very often the presence of one of his pubs makes others in the area more competitive. That quite clearly is of benefit to everyone. Especially old sods like me who like a quiet pint and who don’t want to be too far from the toilets.

Ventured into a Spoons for the first time last year, in Worcester - was pleasantly surprised, as, from the press they get, I was expecting clientele more suited to a wild west saloon!

On a different subject. Please shop and dine local during this month's eat out to help out offer. Companies like McDonald's and Wetherspoons don't need our support. Also you will save more going to somewhere a bit more expensive. I am a big supporter of local businesses.

I never quite get why people buy a house by a football ground then moan about football supporters? Surely you’d buy a house else where if that was a problem

If you buy a house near a stadium, you buy it with the knowledge that parking will be tricky every other weekend and you will encounter a fair few football fans.

Football fans being the only people in society that get drunk & subsequently become violent.

I’m against it to be honest - I’d personally rather Gloucester Road kept its character and different pubs than be absorbed by a identikit Wetherspoons. I wish they would just bulldoze the whole of gloucester road as its a eyesore and full of pricks

Try the one in Bedminster on a Thursday afternoon 👀 I popped in on Saturday evening, I wondered why there was huge queues outside the booze shop on the junction of Cannon street and East Street. Then the pub had loads of the "Stokes Croft" types in, definitely not locals.
I saw the following day that there was some sort of gathering in the local park, The few local pubs I have been to have been in the main, well controlled and I felt safe. Spoons was no exception, member of staff on the door controlling entry and exit, hand sanitation and track and trace forms. I would definitely use it again - UTG
