I don't know who you are trying to kid, he played a few passes that you would expect any competent league one midfielder to make, he also gave the ball away cheaply a couple of times. It's pre-season, that's what happens. I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, Barrett is a talented player with a lot of ability and potential, but as i see it the only way he'll fulfil that potential and perform to the best of his ability is If he can get to peak fitness and condition. Hopefully for the start of the season he will be somewhere near that. It was his vision, weight and timing of pass that looked good and a lot of player's don't have all 3 at this level. On one occasion he had 3 player's on him in a tight space. He slowed the game down, kept the ball close to him and then threaded a through ball through the tightest of gaps to Leary enabling him to cross first time. Plus not many player's would have had the vision to try the chip that hit the bar. I was only discussing him as you felt the need to highlight his weight, even though you could see he has lost weight and was moving a lot more. Garner had already said he had come back in better shape and had hit his demands and those reporting on the game said how sharp he was looking until the injury. He's never going to be the quickest and fittest player in the squad, if he was he wouldn't be with us. As long as he's fit enough to move into space, to track back and to keep going, that's all that matters. He's highly unlikely to be fit for the start of the season, now he's hurt his hamstring, which is a shame as he gives us something different. His hamstring went as he's not used to rubbing that fast, done the same thing myself a few times. Annoying but that's what can happen, when you improve your fitness over a short period of time. Especially when your muscles are tired. It's Leahy not Leary, just saying as you seem to not know his name.

Can't argue with a lot of that. Personally I would have rated Alfie higher than Ehmer on the day. Thought Ehmer gave away a few free kicks, where as Alfie always looked in control and looked even more confident than last season. It was Ehmer's debut though, so he was probally over eager and trying to win balls, when he shouldn't etc. You could see there is a good player there though.

At least I now know how Zain’s second goal crept over the line, wasn’t the best view from the live stream!

A good read, and a fair assessment of the players - thank you for taking the time to produce it.

We have some good youth on the books don’t we. The pitch at the creek looked good if not a little on the dry side but it was a hot day. Great to see Roman Glass on their shirts although strange to see it on a red background. Do people still think we need another striker? An experienced one maybe?

Thank you a very well put together write up and a fair assessment of all the players. The one thing I do disagree with is that I thought we played quite clearly with a 4-2-3-1 in the first half and changed to a back 3 for the second half? I may be wrong but that is how I seen it. Great work on the report.

Great work on the report. I was in attendance with young Max and it was a 3-4-3 in both halves imo. Though there was definite fluidity at top so could be argued that the shape changed a bit there, but they definitely set up with a back three in both halves. As we've been starved of football I have written a 'sideways look' blog of the game (YER JOKING) - gascastpodcast.co.uk/2020/08/09/sneek-peek-at-the-creek/
