Decent run out in hot conditions. Bit disappointing second half. We didn't keep the ball as well and let Manor Farm into the game. However, we still had chances to add more goals. Keepers can't be judged as they had nothing to do and the defence was never under any pressure. Upson was surprisingly the pick of the midfield. Ayunga looked a handful but failed to convert 2 or 3 very good chances. Everyone looked a bit rusty as you would expect and Westbrooke, Ogogo and Mitchell-Lawson didn't feature at all. As usual, very difficult to judge the team or individuals in a friendly against such low ranked opponents. Good to see the lads back in action though. Upson was pick of the midfield last season so no surprise for me.

Most importantly, good to see Rovers playing again, new players getting a run out, goals being scored and football to think about again! Up the GAS!

Got home from work in time to see the last few minutes. I have to say Ayunga looked very leggy and non-league. There’s some work to be done with him I think. Normally at this stage of pre season is all about fitness. A lot of the time they do heavy training the day before the game, even on the day of the game, when we kick off later. So not surprising that any player's look leggy, especially one that will be training more than he has for years.

How did our club ever agree 2 a 3 1/2 year contract 4 that waster another great signing by DC I think we've got your point, how about commenting on today's game? Aren't we still doing the same wrt new signings? How many of the new signings contracts are for 3 years or more? Do we insist upon a Rovers standard sell-on, appearances, maximum agent payout, etc. contract template? Probably hard to find out as confidential? With any euphoria, freeing of financial pressure, etc. the club has to be careful of the effects of contracts in the long term. It may not affect us at present, but salary caps could come into play in a year or so if we have players on contract who we do not want but cannot release so cannot sign new players .......

Don’t understand the dislike of Upson. Signed on a free, played 84 games in all comps for us over two seasons, more MOM performances this season on here than any other player, scored some incredible goals, one of the first names on the team sheet under 3 different managers with us, clearly liked by those who understand football, more experience in the Championship than the rest of the squad combined, something like 300+ professional games in the Championship and League 1. Can’t imagine what your reasons are to be fair. You can quote all the stats you want, but he doesn't do enough for me I'm afriad.

He did alright. Worked hard, got his head up, passed and looked comfortable on the ball which is what you would expect from a player from Chelsea's academy. Played as a deep lying midfielder which suggests Garners looking to play him there rather than at centre back.

Admittedly, I lost about 15 minutes of the second half, but it seemed as though Hargreaves was doing a lot of the spade work in picking the ball up deep to bring it forward.
Early days. No negatives and plenty to look forward to IMO

Bad news for Josh Barrett. Pulled his hamstring apparently.

Very early days but what was clear that 'hoofing' the ball forward was a no no, short, quick and mostly forward minded passes, deffo BG has put a marker down, we just need to be able to keep that style effectively against stronger opponents but overall encouraging

Was it side to side and back again or were we putting it into midfield quickly?

Bad news for Josh Barrett. Pulled his hamstring apparently. Poor blokes having a mare of a start to his career at Rovers, just hope it's a strain and he's not pulled his hamstring or that's the whole of his pre-season gone, then he's playing catch up when he recovers. Zain Phillips is an interesting one, signed at 16 from Fulham, could he be the find of the summer?

Very few occasions of just playing turgid keep ball at the back - instead getting the ball forward through midfield and, on many occasions down either wing.
It will be interesting to see how this goes against better opposition, but everyone in the back line, in both halves looked comfortable on the ball.

I'd like to see him against stronger opposition, but with Barrett injured, he may get his 1st team chance.

OK, what I meant by leggy in this case is ungainly and awkward, he didn’t move like a professional footballer. I believe there is work to be done. Hopefully the coaching staff can improve him to an acceptable level.

Let's hope he doesn't become the new Miss it Blissett!!

It was just nice to watch my team after so long. Upson bossed it first half. It was understandably rusty but it’s all about minutes in the bank. Cam Hargreaves impressed me as well. Disappointing that Barrett did his hammy as he looks the sort of player that needs a decent run of games to get fit.

Just seen the attendance for the game. Absolutely appalling. Looks like a lot of Gasheads have already made up their mind on Garner and voting with their feet.
