Don’t know what to make of that. On one hand fantastic result against Sunderland no matter where you play them. On one hand, we got battered and rode our luck with good goalkeeping. On another we got lucky to make it that far without conceding On one other we showed strength to make it that long without conceding and playing so deep On the flip side we were statistically battered, then again it’s Sunderland Yes it isn’t Garnerball and was like a horrific Coughlanball, but it’s pleasing Ben has put substance before style. Going by Occam’s razor - utilising the simplest explanation - it’s a good result. BG cannot be written off so soon but by this one result he’s not the new messiah either. But i was starting to question could we be on the verge of a new era after that first half. I still have many doubts but let’s see how we get on. We needed to be strong We were strong As I’ve said you won’t win pretty every week and away from home you sometimes need a plan B. We questioned the ability of this side to dig in and they’ve done that. Good signs in my book! Apparently the players only put a shift in when it’s a milestone for Tony Craig and aren’t motivated to play for BG. Perhaps it was Craig’s birthday or wedding anniversary today and the backs to the wall effort was for him !!!

Decent point. Still can’t create clear cut chances though. What clear cut chances did Rovers miss?

Expect it's already been said, so it's not the fan's that influence the referees decision, a dive in the penalty area and no booking, two bookable fouls and no red card Maybe it's all a fix 🤷♂️

Great defensive performance I actually think scoring so early made us drop very Deep early in the game but I’ll take a draw all day long. UTG!! That and the fact Sunderland are one of the strongest teams in the division and that they wanted to get back into a game against a team who’s own fans were expecting a hammering. It was the most obvious feature of today that Sunderland would pin us back once they went behind.

A point away at Sunderland sounds like a good result to me. You can analyse it all you like, but at the end of the day, it'll still be an away point at a top six side. I'll take that any day of the week. Could it be those anti BG are looking for a negative out of a positive?

Nicholson and Hargreaves both poor, they need to do better or we need to sign better. Come on Topper, are you serious? You don’t sign a new player every time someone has a mediocre match. Blimey if we did our squad would be massive! It just wasn’t Nicholson’s day today. 😉 UTG! "Both need to better or we sign better" if they do better then we don't know to sign better? Although the rumours on the other threads are that we're already looking for another CM, if that's the case BG must agree with me. I can't see Hargreaves can play the right wing/forward role form the first two matches he's more of a central midfielder.

A good point away to Sunderland, who will doubtless finish in the top handful this season, and people moan that we got the point by not having enough possession!! Amazing.
I think we looked a lot worse when Hanlan went off personally. I think we’d have still surrendered possession to some extent but he clearly had them worried on the counter and both fouls by Bailey Wright were on him I believe. I also think the two subs due to injuries impacted our ability to change formation and maybe bolster the midfield, whether Garner would have chosen to do that I don’t know.
The possession, passing football and goals will hopefully come against the many, many weaker clubs than Sunderland in this league. For now, good point in one of the hardest opening fixtures possible.

Nothing to serious for Hanlan or Leahy which is good to hear, thought both had good games today. Glad to hear that. I thought Hanlan was causing then lots of problems with his pace and his hold up play wasnt bad either I was a bit critical of Leahy, but grew into the game well. Still think he needs to get back into defendingh that left back area more often

What clear cut chances did Rovers miss? He did say create, and not complete. I doubt going 1-0 up after 3 mins helped as most teams would look to sit on the lead, imagine the posts on here if we'd continually attacked and then got hammered 3 or 4-1, Ayunga and Hanlon look like they'll chances, as does JML. If Rovers fans didn't enjoy todays result they can't get a lot of enjoyment out of supporting Rovers.

Not sure if you quoted me accidentally on that point but I totally agree regarding the performance. I was just mentioning that he was talking about creating chances and not converting them. Great result, great start. UTG

Pleased with that , alright it was back to the wall second half but when you consider Bailey-sh**e should have been red carded early second half that may have changed. Plenty of positives, Jaakkola return ,defence looked much better than last week & Hanlon looks a handful until he came off. Onwards & upwards utg.

Just watched the highlights on Sky what a shocking challenge on JML deserved a red card
