Lots of positives to take from today IMO.
Great to see us defend so resolutely for 98 (wtf?!) minutes & scrap our way to a deserved point. I wasn’t sure we had that side of our game still in us under BG - so was really pleased to see the determination & bodies on the line defending.
Also impressive individual performances from the likes of Westbrooke, Leahy, Jaakkola & Hanlan - who gave a great account of himself on his debut. We missed his pace as an outlet when he went off.
Of course, on the ball we were lacking second half & we needed to take better care of it instead of giving it straight back to Sunderland. Their goal was always coming with the pressure we were under.
But that side of our game will keep improving over the coming weeks as the players get sharper & more used to this system & style of play.
Plenty to like & plenty to work on, but a great point to start the season.

Follow up that away draw with a home win and that’s automatic promotion form! 😉

A point away at Sunderland sounds like a good result to me. You can analyse it all you like, but at the end of the day, it'll still be an away point at a top six side. I'll take that any day of the week. Could it be those anti BG are looking for a negative out of a positive? Follow it up with a win at home In our next match and we’ll be on 4 pts . Lots to work on but a draw away first game of season is a very good result when it’s against the title favourites for anyone.

Expect it's already been said, so it's not the fan's that influence the referees decision, a dive in the penalty area and no booking, two bookable fouls and no red card Maybe it's all a fix 🤷♂️ Referees at all levels in my experience have an unconscious bias towards the bigger clubs. This is so wrong. It was also wrong that he got away with it because it was a second offence. In my eyes there shouldn’t be any lenience purely because it was a second yellow. If they commit a second foul that was worthy of a first yellow then tough they should be off. I don’t think this is because of the size of the club though it’s just a weird manner of refereeing.

People tend to lean towards the most powerful in 50/50 situations where they have to make a quick decision ? Sunderland are a much bigger club than us. I’m not saying this is fact but it’s a theory and i think it’s got legs. I watched on I follow today and I thought they were cheating lady gardens who dived fouled and cheated their way through the game just as they have the last two times I’ve seen us play them. I’m glad we’ve taken 4 points off them the last two games I really don’t like them although the majority of their supporters seem to be decent.

Point away at Sunderland? Yes please. Me right now. Feet up, single malt swirling in my right hand, Howlin Wolf wailing Smokestack lightning on Alexa. I’m easy and it ain’t Sunday morning yet. Love you all Gas Heads.

Is that likely to be good or bad news for us? Good, we would have liked Flanagan on the bench and Scowen in for Dobson, we are disappointed that neither Neil or Diamond aren’t even on the bench, two young players who have been very impressive in the build up. It looks like a team set up not to concede, Power and Dobson tend to sit back in front of the back three, so allow teams to much space in the middle. Neil Diamond on the bench ? That’s cracklin’ Rosie. We were nearly singing a song sung blue till the equaliser, that would have been sweet, Caroline.

Excellent point, unfortunately I couldn't watch it but it sounds like we really had a grind out a point. I'd have taken a point all day long before today, as I was fearing a drubbing. Great to hear the players put in a determined performance, and hopefully that will give us a massive confidence boost going into the next game.

Every team Parkinson has managed cheat like this. I remember Bolton when they got promoted from L 1 they were exactly the same

Parky furious with us for timewasting. Not sure how we were expected to play when we were 1-0 up there. A mediocre manager like Steve mcclaren who seems to walk into job after job

Anyone heard anything about the extent of the injuries to our players ? Cramp for Hanlan and a knock on the hip/thigh (dead leg?) for Leahy.

Lovely tackles by Harries just before the sending off, could easily have been a goal there
