The positive for me is we had 22 players who did not look out of place or uncomfortable with the football they were asked to play. When you factor in that three more (Daly, Rodman and Barrett) can complement that 22 it is a strong group already. Yes we need more goals in the group and I trust that is in hand. If the two senior squad members who BG has suggested find other clubs do move on this window then we have wriggle room to strengthen further up to the end of October if anyone picks up an early season long term injury. Plus there is always the loan market where we could bring in a promising youngster from a higher division who will fill the fourth striker role and will also a) be under the age of 22 and b) have their “Real” wages part subsidised by the lending club.

With both the games 0-0 and 1-2 all the players showed good energy levels all the way through. So they are just about match ready. Ayunga shows good movement and strong pace with average heading ability. A bit of confidence will see him score. The both teams are confident in passing and moving , upson does play too many loopy lofty balls that are 50/50 challenges for our players . All in all the team look ready. My concern for the season is the team is quite weak in the air and some teams will bully them.

For the sake of balance and some normality could someone please post something really negative? Pre season games are meaningless. Looks like you are only allowed to be positive about pre season games. Poor performances in pre season dont count. Good performances mean it's all clicking. BG is the new messiah. Garners league record remains unchanged.

Alan Hansen said that, and then Gareth Southgate came very close to proving him wrong in the last World Cup. I'd take nearly and enjoy the ride 🙂 Man utd proved him wrong the same season Hansen said it! I think Alan Hansen was actually correct though. It is very rare that you win anything with kids. That United team had Schmeichel, Irwin, Bruce, Pallister, Paul Parker, Lee Sharpe, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Andy Cole and Brian McClair. All players well into their 30's and mid 20's. They had a few youngsters around them obviously, but the core of the team was very much experienced. You don't generally win anything with a team full of inexperience.

All about balance. I don't think poor performances in pre season do count, really. Likewise a good performance doesn't. I'm not concerned about the defeat to Forest Green I'm not concerned about the defeat last night.

We certainly weren't a push over. We played a Championship side and remember we have so many new players who have never played together in a competitive match. I thought we were the better team for most of the match but let's not lose sight of the fact that this was a glorified training session. I see a lot of potential in a lot of players. Zain Walker is exciting to watch, Dave the man looks like a good signing.....there were so many positives and very few negatives. I've said this before but let's see how we are doing after 10 league games. I personally think we will have teams worried. Who's dave the man? David Tutonda......"every club needs a Dave"

Having watched the friendly games that were streamed I am still not certain as the best eleven. With regard to the back three I think only Max is a certainty, for me it should be AK and CH which means Baldwin and Kelly miss out and yet both look excellent. I thought Baldwins passing out from the back was superb last night. Right wing back is a tough choice Little has looked excellent but in the second game last night Hare put is some marvelous crosses - I cant make up my mind between these two Left wing back for me is the new guy DT - he looks a superb acquisition. Central midfield I feel Zain definitely plays, and for me it is a toss up between Grant and Upson. Front three for me is SN JA and JML plenty of mobility there, I think Ayunga needs polishing but he has movement and presence.

Some nice problems to have for a change, and that’s why the manager gets paid big bucks.

It was a little tongue in cheek remark and if they still feel the need to look at our forum and comment then I honestly couldn't give a toss. Thought they woukd have better things to do being such a huge club

Agree with much of that but feel JA needs to develop more and to start with just needs to be an impact sub. Sounds like he’s got plenty of potential but to throw him in too early and expect him to fill JCH’s boots could damage his long term career with us. i definitely want to see someone come in is who is ready to hit the ground running as our first choice number 9.

I sense BG intends starting with Nicholson, JML and Hargreaves on Saturday so JA & ZW will be impact subs, problem is we could be 2 or 3 goals down by the time they come on! I bet Ipswich & Sunderland can't believe their luck that they might face us w/o a recognised striker in the starting 11.

Keeping the squad happy is certainly going to test BGs man-management this season. That we have missed the first month of the season and it will all be squashed into less time with few mid week spaces and two games a week should help ensure all the squad play. But as manager BG will need to decide on his “best” team because too many changes from one match to the other will not help the players get to know each other and hopefully build some momentum and a clear pattern of play. UTG!
