He is getting grief because he took over a winning team with confidence and destroyed it. Other managers usually come in mid season to save a season not ruin it. If you were at ipswich last season those players were not getting beaten that day even If it was last man standing.only one guy killed the dream of some success GC ball was as attractive as Nicola sturgeon, and who else thought so the 3k who stayed away, in the top 4 we should be getting 10k attendances. We got lucky in so many games that we carved out wins, his football was dire.

For me BG talks a good game, but so far there has been no substance to back up his talk. He has brought players in that on paper & past performance, looks reasonable to suggest we have enough to easily hold a mid table position but unfortunately we have seen ‘promising’ signings before & I for one will only judge them on their performances with us. Judging on Saturday’s performance, apart from one or two passages of play it was total garbage. The defending was shocking & attack non existent. Midfield meh. The after match interview with BG was a joke & Ehmer’s interview - well as a proven captain I expected more. Totally uninspiring, wouldn’t motivate me out of a burning building, and he was really weak for their second goal. Early days yet but, Saturday, Sunderland win aside, was a continuation of last season. How long does he get? I think he should be given 10 league games & by then I would want to see some evidence of this new style of play (whatever that is, I’m not too sure) getting results. I’m not convinced but hope I’m wrong, I didn’t warm to GC & some moaned about the style of football, but give me results any day of the week.

To answer the OP he’s got several games imo. If we are in bottom 4 after 10 games he should be nervous. It we’re around mid table he will have turned around our form somewhat with a few wins and should be safe for a few months. Anything better and he’ll see the season out at least. Our squad is at least mid table but the lack of a striker has left us unbalanced and pretty toothless in attack and led to us being so pressurised on Saturday. It was easy for Ipswich. I’m sure the JCH sale would have been a board decision so it’s not totally BGs fault that we don’t have any goals. But football is all about results and if he doesn’t get them he will be sacked. UTG!

Fair point. I would argue that this is EXACTLY the right time to call for his head. A new manager coming in might have contacts during what's left of the transfer window to make a difference. If you leave 10-15 matches in, it's too late to change anything and BG would have had over 30 games by then. This is statistically the worst manager in our history, and I've seen nothing in his team selection, or formations, or reaction to when things don't work out in real time to see it will reasonably change.. So let him put his own squad together then sack him? I would rather that than, let him put his own squad together then let him take us down.

I didn’t much like GC & Can’t argue with most of that, but some of the games were cracking, the 4-2 win v Southend springs to mind & results were there. The football under BG has not been any more attractive, in my view & to top it off we lose more often than not. Unless fans like to see us pass the ball around the back a dozen times before banging it upfront to the opposition. Personally I don’t think the dip in attendance was solely down to unattractive football.

Everything I saw on Saturday, holes in the back, punchless up top, said one thing, the system was all wrong.
If we are going to play 3 at the back then we need 5 across midfield. These systems may work in the Premier league or Premier academies, but this is League 1 with a different caibre of player, in particular midfielders. Here we don't have that exceptional talent that allows you to release 3 to up top. The midfield gets over run and the back 3 become exposed. Meanwhile the midfield over run and chasing shadows can't then support that front 3, who then get cut off and isolated up top.
BG needs to learn and learn fast that is in a very different playground from what he is used to, take a reality check with where he is now plying his trade and change his system.

I dont think it is changing the narrative at all. But theres a real element of stupidity from fans calling for his head now. Were literally just starting a season. Weve got a plan and that plan is lead by Ben and his structure. Yes, there was a case to get rid during lockdown but we didnt. Therefore we chose this plan, signed players around it and are committed. I'd suggest (baring dreadful results) 12 games would be the normal hallmark of reflection. I'm not sure that's unreasonable? But no doubt you wanna make out that I dont think last season counts... i think its others with the narrative they wish to write. The poster obviously wasn't at Southend! Nothing that was important at that match has changed since then. Also nothing tangible in the post apart from an arbitrary 12 (open for debate exactly how many) matches, but I can't see one post yet in agreement that BG playing no strikers is a fabulously revolutionary idea? Give BG time or matches? He's had time and matches. Over 12, actually. And already a transfer window. The stupidity lies in trying something over and over again and it still not working, then trying it again by giving it more time (?). I think you miss the point. No one is looking at the past and defending his record. People have looked at it, explained it and drawn a balanced consideration that he'll do better. You reasonably may disagree. But given the direction we have taken between Sunderland and the Ipswich game. I.e. BG signing players, for his vision, releasing players, for his vision it would be extremely dopey to abandon that with haste. I concede that results and performances need to pick up. I'm not defending his record but I sense for some that want to be right more than they want rovers to be good. Weve chosen a plan- it's the plan deserves a few games before we all turn.

Maybe Garners contribution will be to assemble the players who can play good football then someone else actually coaches them to promotion. Seems far more realistic at this stage than Garner managing to do it himself.

Seems far more realistic at this stage than Garner managing to do it himself. This is what I think will ultimately happen. I think we've assembled a decent side (obviously a lot of that may be down to Widdrington - at least part of it will be). Garner now has to manage this team to success (success being based on what is achievable at this football club). If he fails to do that, hopefully we can appoint a manager to replace him who can manage.

Personally I dont think the manager will change his philosophy and I fear we are on a slippery slope because of it, that said I really hope I am wrong for all our sakes.

Anyway, bit early to start talking about that. If you're seriously suggesting the cost for paying him off and finding a replacement is an issue, then we might as well all give up now! What's the cost of relegation? It is too early to be talking about it, but our form in 2020 is relegation form.

As long as we all realise whom our first 3 games are against before everyone gets the knives out.

I don't believe giving him 10 games from this coming Saturday is haste. Like another posters said if we lose by large margins it will be sooner.
Imho he will be gone by the end of October. I never wanted him to fail I really wanted this guy to smash it and we would be on cloud 9. I've seen all of BG games (just the Newport game that wasn't on inplayer) and cant see him turning it around.
Also I would love to be a fly on the wall in the dressing room at HT to see how he deals with under performing players and if he gives them a kick up the a**
I'm hoping this come to back to bite me and we go on a win streak.

Some were even calling him a bully the season before, especially after the interview he gave regarding Chris Lines and how many game's he played, he was getting crucified for the Football being served up, crowds were down and plenty still weren't having him even though we were winning a lot more Football matches than we were losing. As I mentioned previously, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the main reason why he wanted to jump ship to a struggling team in the league below, regardless of what he was saying in wanting to move closer to Sheffield. It's now gone full circle

True that the first three games are tough. But if we perform as we did on Saturday then all three will be heavy defeats. We can't play the way we did again with our back three unprotected and exposed time and time again. Three 3 or 4 goal defeats with no attempt to play differently when it clearly doesn't work should see him go. Three tight games with us losing by the odd goal after pushing the opposition all the way I can accept, but not what I saw on Saturday.
