Great first half but second played too deep but into the hat, Turkish messi superb, like Ali Kioki looks very strong. Plenty of positives UTG no party poppers and dust ourselves down

Really dont understand how we can be so good first half and so poor in the second. I'm not sure we consciously sat back we just seemed unable to keep the ball. In fairness to Walsall they were much better 2nd half but we stopped doing the things we'd done well. Oztuhmer has to play we looked so much more creative with him in the side, Koiki also impressive. They've shown there is the potential for a decent attacking side there, BG now has to get that over 90 mins rather than in patches. We're in the hat which personally I think was important for confidence and now have a rare free week leading into Fleetwood. Onwards & upwards

For all that we looked like we dominated in the first half, we only had 2 shots on target the whole game and therein lies our problem for me, roll on round 2 though.. Yes I hoped the formation tweak may help in that department but no joy. Players or managers instructions to blame for sitting back on a lead you reckon? Maybe, we do seem at our worst when we're winning. If I'm honest we seemed comfortable first half and I was starting to think how many. 2nd half Walsall were far better than us though.

Walsall threw the kitchen sink at us in the 2nd and played a lot better. We defended well though.

Ran a lot but he didn't really hit any incisive passes or dominate the play. Koiki had a very solid debut, but wouldn't say he did anything outstanding - I'd still pick Tutonda for Fleetwood if he is 100%.

Best thing about the game was the lack of defenders playing passing triangles. Much better to watch. Hanlan is not devon white so why they keep expecting him to thrive off balls suited to ole devon I dont know. Oztummer has been shocking upto today where he played much better (not great but better). Nicholson played well at wing back for a forward player.
The left wing back koiki has been average so far some poor passes from him but he is new so assume he will improve.
Ansi seemed to be in better form today has seemed a little off pace this season so far.
Glad to be in the hat for the next round

Main thing we are through, so at the end of the day pleased. But FFS, wasteful when on top in the first half, it could have been 3/4 up. Second half couldn’t cope when Walsall got on top. The warning signs were there with free headers. Not sure why we bring everyone back for corners/ set pieces around our box, yet still concede free headers in the box. Not for the first time, we are unable to adapt when the opposition get on top in a game & just invite them on by defending too deep.

They threw players forward but only got one (and that was late on) so we stopped them from forcing extra time. We go through.

The chance that hit the post (which looked offside to me) apart I never truly felt they threatened. I thought we invited pressure not necessarily by sitting deep but more by not keeping the ball well enough. First half was the most dangerous we've looked going forward for a while so plenty to be positive about

Agree, home team 2-0 down halftime, get rollicking from manager, throw everything at opposition second half. Seen it from us many times. Just celebrate the win and look forward to the draw on Monday.

Familiar story. Definitely something to work on. One of DC’s best qualities was game management and not being afraid to change it. Let’s hope this lack of seeing games out changes.

My first sentence said I was pleased we are through, and I am. IMO, not for the first time, we did not adapt

Not a perfect performance but overall I'd score the boys 7.5/10.
Jaks- couple of good moments. Nicholson- Felt the system worked well with a dribbler at RWB Ehmer - Decent Baldwin - hit and miss, good goal. Kilgour - Maybe the best defender, and decent on the ball but his long passing needs improvement Kolhki - Good.
Westbrooke - MUCH BETTER- stopped coming all the way back to CB receive the ball. Upson- Poor first 15. Smarter as it went on. McCormmick - Best performance for me and perhaps the midfield balance is better with him. Ozzy - If he'd of scored that early chance I'd have given him MoTM.
Hanlon - If we paid 100K for this boy it was a snip. Great play. Hard worker too.

Why make a sub when we're facing a free kick just outside the box, although how can Walsall's No 9 be completely unmarked? At every level of football nobody makes a change when you are defending a set piece. Absolute schoolboy stuff.

Good first half, could have been 3 or 4 up at half-time, obviously Walsall were going to have a real go second half as they had nothing to lose. Just under £17k prize money in the bank for winning the tie & we are in draw for the next round, so not a bad day at the office.

Tale of two halves, first half performance was really good. Created chances, passed the ball well and looked strong in defence. Scored two well earned goals to give us a deserved lead. Hanlan, Koiki, Oztumer all impressed. Second half it seemed to fall apart, we struggled to control the game or keep possession as we had in the first half. All the chances fell to Walsall, we made it hard for ourselves. Anyway, into the hat for the second round so that’s a positive. Can never complain too much with an away win. Agree. We had complete control of the game and thoroughly deserved a 2 goal lead at half time. I don’t understand the tactics and mentality we took into the second half which enabled a complete change in momentum and gave the opposition every encouragement. We should have carried on as we were and a morale boosting comfortable victory was there for the taking. It really would have served us right if we had conceded an equaliser - anyway we are in the next round and hopefully BG will have learnt a few things from the day. Right I’m off to the pub.
