I enjoyed our first half performance, I thought we looked more creative and played with a better tempo than lately. Second half we reverted to form with trying to hold on to our lead and let Walsall get on top of the game. Saying that other than a couple of set pieces we never looked threatened and defended relatively well. I hope BG realises the repetitive mistakes we keep making in our game management and can change things a bit sooner. On a player performance perspective I was impressed with kolki, though he did tire towards the end and McCormick had his best performance in a rovers shirt so far. Oztumar added that bit of creativity we have lacked lately and linked our midfield with attack well. All in all I thought we deserved the win and look forward to Monday’s draw. UTG

Really dont understand how we can be so good first half and so poor in the second. I'm not sure we consciously sat back we just seemed unable to keep the ball. In fairness to Walsall they were much better 2nd half but we stopped doing the things we'd done well. Oztuhmer has to play we looked so much more creative with him in the side, Koiki also impressive. They've shown there is the potential for a decent attacking side there, BG now has to get that over 90 mins rather than in patches. We're in the hat which personally I think was important for confidence and now have a rare free week leading into Fleetwood. Onwards & upwards I think in the league we have struggled to hold a lead and better quality teams have pushed us back. Today though I sensed a change of mindset straight after the break. I think the message was to take the sting out of the game and keep possession but it all it did was allow Walsall to play higher up the pitch and put us under pressure, once a games momentum shifts it is so hard to just switch back and today it was all our own doing. We got away with it and are still in the competition. UTG!

Really enjoyed the first half and were in the hat. Didn't understand bringing everybody back for corners when we were 2-0 up,hindered us getting out and up the pitch.

This is basically a young team They are still learning , especially working as a team. Yes, they did make hard work of it. But they dug deep and came out winning Winning will breed confidence. So overall I’m personally happy we are into the hat to the next round Just some people could be the same UTG

"No matter how many goals we might be up we can never sit back as though we've finished anybody off. When we do this is what happens, always a poor second half, every time"

Thought we played ok - certainly some nice passing and the 2nd goal was as good as anything the striker we have just sold for a large fee scored for us ...... We have strikers now who look like they are going to score goals when the chances come. Not surprising that a team two goals down came back at us second half. A DC team is never going to give up.

Mansfield beat Sunderland That's a shocking result for a club like Sunderland, funny what sacking a manager can do. And then appointing a very good one. UTG!

Dissecting the performance of a cup game is the mark of a . Turn up, win the game, into the hat for the next round. That is the name of the game. Nothin more, nothing less.

Being a cup match it was all about the result, we won so it’s a very good result. 2nd round draw here we come! Performance wise we did ok. First half we were far better but Walsall came into it after half time so credit to them.
Hanlan was very good and he capped it off with a great goal. I liked McCormack today, he hassled them, got stuck in and did well imo. ZW played well and with Oztumer alongside we had a bigger threat. It was Oztumer who enabled us to play with that tempo in the first half, I hope he keeps his place. Nicholson had some good moments but atm BG struggling to play him in his best position. Our performance in the first half was different from what we’ve seen so far so it might catch Fleetwood out. But even in that first half we struggled to get players into the area at times.
Again I thought in that first half when we were on top we should have had a few more goals but I suppose that would be greedy. But we need to take advantage when we are on top, the second half showed what could happen if we don’t do that. Well done to BG and the team for getting into the 2nd round, well deserved after the overall performance.
UTG!

Good result, well done Gas!
I didn't watch today, what was the formation? I couldn't work it out from the lineup. Who played wide right, or did we play 4-3-3?

Hard to say really it was still 3-5-2 I suppose but otzumer was drifting in between the lines to link play and Nicholson as wing back naturally attacked more than any other right sided player we have for that position. We still showed that we need that experienced midfielder to hold things together in the late stages of games though. Also that we need more strikers , otzumer isn’t a striker and neither is JML but Garner keeps playing players up front who aren’t forwards.
