So those of us that were saying 10 games weren't so far off after all. I'm gutted it didn't work, we have the team and we had the manager with the "plan" for us to play well, challenge against the best and get up the table. I hold my hands up he sold it to me, I was one of those that ticked the top 10 box on the survey, and I was holding back, inside I wanted a top 6 finish. So what now? For me realism has hit home, its very unlikely to happen this season, another gas season of who knows what, the plan is lost and a new manager will be in with a different plan that will, no doubt, need time to bed into a team that have only just started playing as a team that have been playing to a different plan from a manager that had no experience as a manager... only Bristol Rovers... In my opinion we need a manager with experience this time, the experiment failed, we need somebody with experience who can, at the least, keep us in league one and that's the minimum we can hope for. We need a striker, somebody with a proven track record, I posted on here a little while ago that the plan was to not make a knee jerk reaction and buy a forward just for the sake of it and that the plan was to wait it out and plan for the January window, I firmly believe the wheels are already in motion on this and that preliminary talks have already taken place. JCH? He's gone Get over it But we should never have let him go i hear you cry. He didnt want to stay There will be other JCH's And, with the right passing play we will get Hanlan performing, You can see how hungry he is, and the way he runs at the defence, is a strong, brutal forward that will prove to be a force too be reckoned with. The manager has gone but the team is still there. with the right manager I think we could still be a top half table team. I posted this on a different thread, but I think it’s worth repeating : There seem to be quite a lot of people currently bemoaning the fact that now BG has gone that’ll be the end of “the project” and that “the vision” will fall by the wayside . . . Well, the vision and the project are Wael’s, with probably a lot of input from Starnes; the recruitment has largely been down to Tommy Widdrington, so none of that is going away or likely to change. Garner didn’t originate it, he was simply brought in to help facilitate it - which he signally failed to achieve. I sincerely believe that any half-decent experienced manager at this level could come in now, take this squad as it is and fashion a very good team out of it. It’s just transpired that Garner just wasn’t the person to do that.

Whomever Wael appoints, it will DEFINITELY be someone he feels fits the clubs' new ethos. That is undoubtable IMO. Of course whether or not that appointment proves successful and/or whether we agree he can carry on with the ethos is another matter - but I certainly don't think there's any doubt that whomever Wael appoints, it will be under the premise that he continues with the same plan. This is spot-on - the plan, project, vision, whatever you want to call it, wasn’t Garners - it is Wael’s. I think any new appointee will be expected to carry on along the same route, as this is the direction in which Wael is steering the club. Unfortunately Garner wasn’t up to the job, but hopefully the next gaffer will be and will help this squad realise its true potential. UTG

Good shout ... and if they decide against giving Rooney his first chance in management then maybe we could? Would certainly solve our experienced striker problem! It’s a good job Pulis took the Wendies job recently, or people would be suggesting he was coming back to Rovers. Meanwhile, the Sheff Utd Manager has to be under threat ... he’s managed in League One recently...

UTG But what is the overall plan, just sign U23's and turn them into players we can sell for £100K's, or develope a team which plays attractive winning football whilst hoping to sell the odd player for £100K's. I can't see us selling any players if all we are doing is fighting a season long relegation battle as the U23's aren't up to playing adult football. The issue is more than just how BG managed the players he signed, it was also due to the lack of experience in the side, Fleetwood's second goal being a classic example of their being no leadership on the pitch. If U23's were good enough at this level then the EFL Trophy would be dominated by U23 sides but so far not one has got to the final.

I’d love to earwig that phone conversation! Hi Roy, Wael here. Who? Wael, Bristol Rovers owner. * ***. UTG! I'd hand my season ticket back if Roy Keane came anywhere near. Maybe - but that would be more than made up by the casual fans who would come along just to see Roy- the celebrity that he has become

i think that the biggest problem we will have is not the money or the location but the amount of control that the manager will have. Tisdale in an interview a while ago made clear that he liked to control everything within the club including scouting and signings. We seem to have specialists is so many areas now that the manager will fit within a structure and probably find his own authority quite restricted I gather that the new manager will be asked to keep on the existing back room staff which will not be of interest to a manager who likes his own people involved.
People are talking about us taking the cheap option but the reality is that this will be Wael's decision and he will not be answerable to the family when it comes to budget. The manager is the key to the project and if the right guy helps us to make the transition into the championship then his wage be a good investment. if we go cheap and fail then the managers wage will have been a cost

I can’t and don’t believe for a moment that the board don’t have their eyes on someone. Wael must have had it in his mind for a while that Ben Garner wasn’t going to be in the job much longer.

Agreed - I think they definitely have someone in mind, but they haven't had any discussions yet so certainly isn't lined up.

Quite, and they’re not going to say they do either. It’s like saying you’ll have stadium news in 3 weeks, when it goes tits up some supporters will go ape about it.

I often wonder whether clubs keep tabs/scout on potential managers, in a similar way they do with players? Cant be a bad idea to always have an idea on who you would like if you were to sack a manager, or if they were to leave
