MK Dons fan here in peace. When Tisdale joined us we had an Exeter fan warning us of tough times ahead and I thought it fair to do the same for you. I think it is fair to say that the man split the fans in his first season in L2. We had the highest budget in the league but we really struggled to make that count and limped our way to promotion, finishing 3rd with a 1-0 win to send us up on the last day. However, his MO was to get promoted so it was job done. That was enough for a chunk of our fans. The football we played was not the silky stuff you'd be expecting and was very much route one. We had a big lad up top (Chuks Aneke now at Charlton) who that suited. Once we lost him in L1 we continued to play this style of football with a 5' 8" striker. The man will infuriate you with his lineups where he tries to over think things to the point that it no longer makes sense. At times we played with 7 defenders on the pitch with a few out of position (along with a couple of defensive midfielders). We also had another incident where he made no subs in a game which we ended up drawing in the dying mins. Very naive to not slow the game down and close it off. He is also not a fan of loanees and bought a lot of L2 dross in to the club instead. Some we are still struggling to get rid of now. I'd also expect that you soon become tired of his press conferences which are extremely dull. Even his choice of hat and scarf annoyed lots of fans towards the end. Towards the end of his tenure with us he could easily hide behind the lack of fit forwards as to why we slipped so far down the league. When they came back we did shoot up the league with a different manager so that could have been the case, we'll never know for sure. You can probably tell from above that I certainly wasn't a fan. I hated the football and couldn't wait for him to leave. Anyway, good luck for this season. I hope it works out for you and he proves a lot of people wrong. Hey cheers for that. I listened to the EFL Tisdale podcast and he mentions that the board changed the plan mid way through the season so instead of having 2 seasons to get it set and promoted it was go up at all costs. In that he mentioned that he then had to go against his own style and throw everything at it. Might go someway into explaining why his style of play may have been different at MKDons. Either way it's going to be interesting to see what happens if he signs for the Gas.

Appreciate the mainly positive responses on here from someone giving you an opinionated insight in to his most recent job.
To be fair, some of you are right that it is an opinion from one fan. I mentioned that he split the fans and there are still some who have fond memories of the promotion year, albeit at the expense of decent football. That was the task in hand and the mission was accomplished.
I'd previously never felt like there was a massive jump from L2 to L1 in terms of quality as many clubs go up and do well the following year. However, it did seem that L1 was just that bit too far for Tisdale in his tactics, gameplay and game management.
We also had a couple of Exeter fans on our forum warning the same. I met a few Exeter fans outside the stadium during the MK Dons v Liverpool game and they said pretty much the same thing. They appreciated his achievements and he brought them stability. Every year they started 750k in the red so bringing the youth through and selling them on was essential. And they did that with the likes of Olly Watkins, Ethan Ampadu, etc. However, they were also very frustrated with him too. At the time they'd just appointed Matt Taylor and found him a breath of fresh air.
I'd previously seen on your forum (after you sold JCH to Peterbrough and were discussing Rhys Healey) that you had nothing up top. We often joked that Tisdale would play a 5-5-0 formation so the lack of forward options could suit him!
He could turn out to be just what you need. I sincerely hope for both yourselves and him that it is the case.

I’d be staring from scratch to seek out a manager who has achieved success at a higher level who is able to inspire players and fans alike. Oh by the way - your criteria could easily be applied to result in Mark McGhee. Blimey were you inspired by McGhee. I think he’d been out of management for over a year when his dynamic personality landed here

I think it should be a long process and I’d be quite happy with Widdington in place until we had properly exhausted all possibilities. We really don’t want to be doing this again in six months time Who would want to come here, who's had success at a higher level? If anyone did, they would be likely to leave us for a bigger club, if we were doing well. So we could end up doing it again anyway. That's why Tisdale looks the best option. A gamble with every appointment. But he could well be here for the next ten years, if things work out. He's still only 47, as he started being a manager at 26. Played at the top level and abroad and got to a quarter final of a European competition. Managed at the bottom level, through non league, upto League 1. So experience of all levels. Never managed higher, but we can worry about that, if we ever get there 🤣.

That for the first 18 months it was about not losing your job, not losing each game etc and that the football comes later.

The stalwart manager out of work for a year and loses touch with the game.

Another thing to check is what are his post-match pressers like when he loses 🤔 is it always the ref? Found this link to a post match interview from him towards the end of his reign at MK Dons. Seems a lot more honest and open than BG was. thanks for that mate! Now I'm having another one of those moments where I'm agreeing with everyone on both sides Jomo 😅

Name a manager who you want, who you think we can get and is better. Anyone can say, I want someone who has had success, don't we all??
