Green shoots of improvement. I too don't understand the overly harsh and negative reaction of some on here. Opinions eh? I think it’s taken in the context of things, after a poor defeat against Swindon and having dropped into the relegation zone, I was hoping we would bounce back against Wigan who are massively struggling this year. I think we did respond in terms of effort and energy, it was a greatly improved performance, it’s just disappointing not to score or challenge their goal enough once again.

I am encouraged by the performance despite not winning. Admittedly the bar is set pretty low after Saturday but at least the players looked more purposeful today. Thought Baldwin and Ehmer were excellent; Nicholson and McCormick has good games. My only big disappointments tonight were Hare - his strength is his crossing and when that is not happening he doesn't offer enough; and Leahy who doesn't look fit enough - all his movements seem so laboured.

Thought barrett when he came on played well.Wanted the ball was prepared to take on players and had nice one touches. With game time I can see him being a asset to the squad. You dont have to look like a model to be a footballer.its what you do with the ball. Gascoigne Maradona and molby proved that at the highest level. Barrett still looks a stone overweight. There have been some great players who have looked overweight but still been fit. i remember Jan Molby who played over 200 games for Liverpool was heavy.

As soon as it was announced Hanlan was out my thinking went from we should get a win tonight tonight to can we nick a goal with one of our makeshift strikers.
I can maybe understand fans being angry had Hanlan or Daly played but sadly our decision to not get another striker in before the window closed was already looking dodgy when we had all 3 fit but tonight it hit us hard.
You can never say never in football but if Hanlan had played we would more than likely had got 3 points tonight.
At least tonight we actually had Possession (58% vs 42%) and we actually had some attemps (13 vs 4) but sadly yet again only 3 on target and Nicholson well nothing needs to be said about the miss while Upson had a good chance that he should have got at least on target and Mcormick when he put the ball across the face of goal!!
It does sound like a broken record but its being clinical in the final third and that final ball that has been letting us down all season but at least tonight we actually looked abit more like a Possession based team instead of hearing all season that we were going to be a Possession based team yet nearly every game we have had only 40% of the ball.
I know the previous manager wanted it to be a fluid front 3 but I really hope that Tisdale has eyes in a goal poacher, we have the players who can pass the ball and run with it and in Hanlan we have a very good all rounder but I think we need a guy who is just gonna play in the 18 yard box and be in the right place at the right time. Easier said than done but someone in the Pitman mould who ain’t gonna be out on the wing taking people on but will just play in the box.
People used to say Cureton was a lazy so and so but that is the type of player we need right now!!! Lets hope that we can find one from somewhere.

We've got at least 6 weeks to go before we can bring in a striker, I think we need to concentrate on what players we've got in the squad now rather than worry about getting more in.

I don't think we create enough chances to be honest an experienced midfieldercould go a long way, though I tend to agree we need another option up top anyway.

Not a bad result considering we had no strikers. If Nicholson had put that one away it would have been a different story and Hanlan would have caused panic in their defence.
I hope Tisdale sticks with this formation. Ehmer and Baldwin seem more comfortable in a back four and of course it means more options to fit in the ball playing midfielders.
I hope we can pick up enough points before the January window when the priority has to be two strikers - one with League 1 experience and maybe an up and coming lower league player.

Sadly thats the issue though, we have to concentrate on the players we got but a number of fans have been saying that Hanlan was gonna get burned out while Daly has had his fitness issues since he came the the club and Ayungu who I think will be a good player is still gonna be very raw. I could kinda defend Garner had he said we are trying to get another striker in and maybe he did but from listening to his interview pre deadline day it did sound like he wasn’t too concerend. It must be something with Tisdale because the same thing kinda happened to him at MK Dons when they got promoted. But even if all the strikers come back and they get goals they still need to get one more in. It different if your budget means you have to work with a small squad but when you see how many defenders and midfielders we have to strikers the balance is serverly wrong.

Anyone else think Jack Baldwin had a good game tonight??
I know a few fans have been abit mixed on him but I thought he was MOM tonight even though we weren’t under massive pressure but thought what he had to do he was solid and looked composed.

Darlington on sunday will give a better performance than wigan tonight so dont bet on us staying in the cup! f**king disgusting! Why give a manager a complete overhaul of player personal to then sack him after 12 games and when most importantly not bad games? He was supposed to be judged on this season and his team which is now! Baffling truly baffling 33 games. 33. Not 12.

Do take your point - don't get me wrong. Buts it's nonetheless all ifs and buts really. The fact is we've failed to score - and barely registered a shot on target - in two games against (and I'm being serious now) two of the worst teams I've ever seen us play in a league game. We can make excuses and say "oh but what if" etc. but that is sh**e and its also alarming. I'm more alarmed by the fact that clearly Tisdale is going to be given no chance by so many fans. We've got some very winnable games coming up. Obviously it's frustrating we didn't win tonight but that was miles better than Saturday. Do we not think there is a possibility that Tisdale took a gamble at halftime that we were unlikely to lose and the subs were part of sounding out the squad “on the hoof” as it were . . ?

Well if ever a game gave rise to a myriad of opinions this is it! From green shoots of recovery to abject failure its all here! summed up by the ratings for Upton, they range from 3 to 7.5 ! just shows how differently folk see things or is it because some fans have preconceived opinions of players and mark them accordingly? As for me well could have and should have won comfortably, 2 points dropped but certainly a much more promising display, whether that's due to our improvement or the lack of quality in opposition is debatable, up the Rovers!

Oh, dear.
That was like playing non league opposition. And although we had the best of the chances, we looked shaky in defence ourselves.
We looked nervous, ponderous and all over the place but still we were the better team, deserved to win and didn't. We played as poorly as I've seen since Conference days.
We didn't do the basics right by passing, moving and scoring when opportunity presented itself so only have ourselves to blame.
The fruits of our position are becoming apparent to anyone that wasn't aware......we have not replaced jch (whom surely would have scored if presented with any chance tonight) and will pay the price for waiting too long to oust BG..
Seatbelts on (if they weren't already)...

< will pay the price for waiting too long to oust BG.. > Then they should have done it before the season started or are you saying they should have sacked him without giving him AT LEAST ten games with the complete new set of players he bought in? Damned if they do, damned if they don't ...

Lets try and look at the positives!
Going to a back four and not messing around with it at the back. Much better to see this. However, even Darlington will trouble our defence more than Wigan did.
For all the critics Leahy has, I do feel he is our best left back. The other two are better wing backs.
I feel like PT did not want to take off one of the holding / defensive midfielders. He did that on Saturday and then we conceded.
Nicholson is a good player for this level, despite his terrible miss. He is also not a striker and was blowing by the end but he put in a lot of effort.
Koiki could turn out to be a decent left sided midfielder, even a winger.
Was good to see Barrett back and he looks to have potential. However, I can understand why BG made him train with the kids (if true). A lot of managers wouldn't let a player like that anywhere near the first team until they were in shape. No matter how good they are.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't ... BG brought in new players in January. And played them. 20 competitive matches + We've been over this many times. What we should have done was removed in Lockdown with all the niceties and invested heavily in an experienced at this level manager.... something that was cited in a poll back in September. At least the new fella (and there was more choice then, Nigel Clough for instance?) with a full transfer window. We haven't learned the mistake of not replacing a proven goalscorer and bringing in recognised striker support. Positives... I thought Baldwin played well and appeared to form a decent partnership with Ehmer (whom for me, jury is out). A back 4 can work effectively. We are short with right back cover and too heavy in left back cover, but then again I think the imbalanced recruitment policy has been done before. McCormack appeared everywhere. Liked the swap of wings with Kioki (again, not sure about him). Nicholson can play anywhere in top third of pitch and had lumps kicked out of him, really should have put the ball anywhere except to the fella on the line, but over all made huge contribution in face of no striker. Leahy appeared to play the last man when we were attacking. I liked his safety first play and I thought generally tried to keep the ball moving. Grant plays himself more into the team the more I see him. Biggest positive and encouraging aspect was I thought we definitely deserved to win and created multiple of chances getting behind their defence. Something to work with..

What a pathetic miss by Nicholson unbelievable no wonder we have only scored 11 goals all season regarding Barrett it is appalling he still looks overweight Hardly a "pathetic" miss for a winger plus what about giving some credit for creating the chance in the first place, plus also leading the line all night. Imagine if we'd still had Nichols trying to do what he did last night. Likewise Barrett looked an asset to the team even if he looks overweight, hopefully finally playing will motivate him to get fitter.
