To be honest, I’d probably take that table now!

I've always said, it's all about the next 0.1666 points. Of course, our game against Wimbledon looks like being a proper relegation 0.2863 pointer.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55470302Not sure if I am reading this right (happy to be put right if I am not) but is having points deductions hanging over you a good approach by EFL? Surely no one sets out to catch this disease and player medical safety on both sides is paramount? Provided you can show you have complied with protocols. Having a weakened side due to COVID take on a side that have been fortunate enough not to (currently) be affected is surely not the right approach for other teams in the League?

According to that article the EFL medical staff are saying Rotherham should play as they've got enough fit players. Sounds like the manager is just whining as he may not have a full bench.

Enough fit players that the manager would ordinarily pick to fill the positions or just 11 fit players of a random variety...? Not sure one way or the other tbh...but was looking at it how we might view it in the same position, if for example, one of the fit players was our 3rd choice keeper and no back up on the bench (just a random example which may have no relevance to Rotherham).

We we're in a similar position on Saturday, where we were missing two players to COVID Oztumer and Westbrook and also had Grant, Daly and Jaakola out injured, I can't see we would have expected PT to seek a postponement, it's just a pity the players given a chance didn't step up to the mark.

The way the virus is spreading so quickly it is becoming a real possibility that this season will not be completed on the pitch. If so, the debate starts to concern whether relegation and promotion are realistically possible. Temporary suspension of the leagues is a clear possibility but can't see any logic or genuine possibility of cancelling the season at this stage. The repercussions of doing so would be seismic for clubs and players and don't see why such a drastic move would be needed.

I suspect that at least one of the clubs postponing fixtures this week did so on the basis that they could have fulfilled them, but that any team they could have fielded would have been without some key players. A decision influenced by other clubs around them doing the same thing. Pretty much impossible for the EFL to take action unless they use a draconian, no exceptions stance, of ensuring clubs forfeit the game if they cannot fulfill their fixture. Without that measure there is not alot the EFL can do to police the situation. They can ask for evidence of test results, but cannot really disprove the dates from which players can claim they have developed symptoms (from which date isolation commences) - it would have been quite convenient for us to have had several players doing so prior to Christmas to extend the isolation period beyond Boxing day, especially when the Portsmouth game postponement was announced. I am still suspicious of Sunderland ensuring they avoided being in our situation against MK Dons, and am still interested in seeing when they return to training this week. In terms of postponements, I believe we have a difficult couple of weeks, but I do believe that the season should continue and be completed, without an extension. Now that the season has started, I believe it is imperative that it is finished and on time. Teams that have made every effort to play games, even when understrength, should not be penalised by those allowing postponements, regardless of the fixture congestion. One thing the EFL could do to help the situation though, is to remove all squad and salary cap restrictions. Also, remove the restrictions on players only being allowed to play for two teams per season. All teams should be allowed to re-call loan players to alleviate their squad limitations, and still allow them to later go out on loan to a third team, and hence help that team fulfill fixtures, without punishment. This would need FA / FIFA approval but it does seem a sensible solution when so many clubs have an abundance of players on their books that are not actually on their official squad list. UTG!
