That is NOT a good enough excuse for a team with so many squad members. Also, most professional sportspeople, especially footballers playing in the top 4 tiers will probably have very good training facilities at home for themselves? Keeping fit should not be a problem! If it is a question of practising tactics with team mates, the obvious start would have been to play like we last played away at Wombles? If it doesn’t work, then change it. The way I saw it was that we were too cautious! Our best approach, with the players we have and their abilities to hold and pass the ball, is just to play the ball forward fast, run with the ball when in their half at opponents, etc. Just go for it. Our defence and midfield are too weak to sustain pressure and defend so we should just attack! The way we played 1st half was similar to under the previous manager? Up The Ante UTG You can't replicate 11v11 at home mate. When people talk of "match fitness"; along with physical well-being, they also mean 'how long since they kicked a ball? How long since they played competitively? How long have they had to practice match tactics amongst their line up?" A lot more than pounding the treadmill goes into making a peak footballer. But Tisdale didn't even mention that post match he put the blame solely on the players for being too cautious.

We’ve barely trained in the last two weeks and had 4 of our best players out. Meh. I’d have been stunned had we NOT been shocking today. That is NOT a good enough excuse for a team with so many squad members. Also, most professional sportspeople, especially footballers playing in the top 4 tiers will probably have very good training facilities at home for themselves? Keeping fit should not be a problem! Couldn’t disagree more - what you’re describing there is a million miles away from what the players require to maintain their sharpness & fitness and prepare physically & mentally for a competitive game.

Yesterday for me showed we really missed Westbrooke. I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea going by some previous comments in recent months. But when Tisdale came in, Westbrooke was dropped. We were playing poor, hardly scoring and we were losing. Westbrooke came in to the team and we started playing well, scoring goals for fun and winning games. Yesterday he was missing and we played poor again, didn't score and lost.
Obviously, yesterday was not just down to Westbrooke not playing. There are other factors involved as well. 10 days with no training due to everyone having to self isolate. Some players don't have gardens so are stuck indoors. Just 1 hour a day doing fitness stuff on zoom. This will obviously have a knock on effect to their sharpness. Crazy to suggest otherwise. Then just 2 days training and prep work for the game. Before kick off yesterday, you could tell we had our work cut out and we were going to struggle and to me that was understandable. I just hoped that the players would have shown more fight and determination in the game.
I am still not convinced by Tisdale but as he is our manager, he has my support. It must have been a tough 2 weeks for him and the players and hopefully now that we don't have the Portsmouth game, we can get some extra work done in training.

I agree with what you say but these are professional footballers. You don’t learn your skills overnight and you don’t lose them overnight as well. It becomes a part of you? To be honest, apart from Koiki maybe, the performances our players put in yesterday, individually and as a team, without being disrespectful to any individual, you could get on any Sunday in a park in any city? The difference between our team and MK, our players and theirs, was immense. And I am sure they have had similar issues around practice, etc.

Everything was wrong yesterday in my opinion

OK. I hear what you say. Let’s see what we do when our players are fit? Personally, from what I have seen so far, most of our players lack the skills that other L1 teams show. But we can get past that and get results if those individuals play together as a team. Yesterday, 1st half, we kept our social distance from their players! It wasn’t a good watch. I hope I am wrong. Maybe it takes time to build a team to play a certain way. But you still need the basic skills! As an example, our throw ins must be the most suspect in the league? Don’t players know how to throw a ball legally? If not, they should be trained by the coaching staff. Tutonda has the worst throw I have seen in years and yes, he plays along the touchline and takes a lot of throw ins.

Disappointing but not a total surprise, professional they may be but players are still human beings with all the emotional baggage that goes with it . The last couple of weeks must have been difficult for all at Rovers with friends and colleagues going down with Covid and no matter who you are it will have an effect on your state of mind which in turn will have an effect on your ability to physically perform to your usual standards, wish all at the camp speedy recoveries and good health, up the Rovers!

Personally I think Garner signed a lot of players who are not good enough, and never will be. Another season wasted on some potty idea that a coach can be a mananger overnight. Our problem is there are no leaders out on the pitch, no one to keep discipline on the pitch. Our midfield is poor defensively, and there is little in going forward. I would say we need and experienced defensive midfielder and an experienced forward that can hold the ball up.

Yep, BG, clearly with some input from TW, went for quantity over quality, now we've got to suffer as there must be at least half a dozen players not up to L1 football.

But can you honestly see that a team of pro footballers are too upset to perform just because a couple of teammates apparently only had a mild case of COVID?
Yesterday was just another Swindon type performance, one where COVID couldn't be used as an excuse.

Yes and i have friends and family who have had Covid in varying degrees and every one was a concern for those who knew them, sad to say not all recovered. Having concern for friends and colleagues who have Covid is not an exaggeration ,you are making light of what is potentially a very serious condition, it may have escaped your notice that thousands of people have lost there lives or have suffered long term damage to covid, long may you and those you work with stay fit and healthy, not every one has been so lucky!

There are positives to every event. At least now the moaners. haven't had their Christmas ruined by the Gas playing well and god forbid, winning. They can quite happily bring out all their 'We told you so's' and 'PT was never the right man for the job' and 'Wael out' etc. So as it is Christmas let's give them their moment and the rest of us (99% of true fans) will be upset, realise we didn't play that well (especially in the first half), realise that players have not had a chance to train/run/exercise for 10 days (those who go to a gym know how painful it can be if you miss a couple of days and then try to carry on where you left off), that it is only one game, realise we will not be promoted this year but have a team for the future and realise that this is how football is. Happy Christmas and a happy new year to you all (even the 1%)

It is nonsence to say that two weeks without any training is not going to affect performance. It is my opinion that the EFL should have cancelled yesterdays game for that very reason. We in fact played that game with at least three players not playing due to the effects of COVID and against a team who have played and also trained and it showed in the fitness. Even so it was a game we could still have won and were still in thhe contest until JVS gave them the second goal and we all know thw worst time to concede is just before half time. Next game will be a fairer game to assess the team and I still believe we have a reasonable squad of players but do need another striker who can lead the attack.

Next game will be a fairer game to assess the team and I still believe we have a reasonable squad of players but do need another striker who can lead the attack. Unfortunately the EFL will not postpone games, but leave it for the clubs to make that decision. Quite rightly the onus is on the clubs to fulfill their fixtures, which should ensure that everything possible is done to ensure games go ahead. We have been very unfortunate in that the end of our isolation period came just before our game was due to be played - but then with our fixture list, that was always going to be the case (prior to Portsmouth calling off their game). perhaps the other affected clubs were looking ahead to their return date in relation to available training time, prior to postponing their games. That should not have been allowed, but would presumably be under investigation by the EFL. I do wonder though, if Sunderland are now exploiting the situation. They seem to be playing mind games with the EFL. Following on from their initial response, despite knowing the same rules applied to every club, they seemed to want the EFL to guarantee that they would not be penalised by postponing their games, when in fact the EFL have always stated that any postponements would be investigated, and no club had been penalised when their Covid related reasons were genuine. With yet another game being called off by Sunderland, I think they are testing the waters, and seeing what they can get away with. I cannot help but feel that an already difficult position for both the clubs in trying to fulfill fixtures even when not quite ready, and in the EFL in trying to ensure that clubs fulfill their fixtures, is being made more difficult by Sunderland.

You can't replicate 11v11 at home mate. That's because Tisdale doesn't make ridiculous excuses like the previous incumbent does and expects the best from his squad. I expect deep down, Tisdale attributes the loss to the lack of training time both individually and collectively. For those who live in flats their ability to train is significantly restricted. For those with Gardens it's still a long way off their normal ability to train. Not sure I buy the argument that the players were mentally affected by the concern of the outbreak on their teammates, the illness tends not to be severe for those under 40s particularly those who are considered to be athletes, but I could certainly understand the affect on their mental health of being locked in a room for 2 weeks straight without being able to prepare for their job. There's a risk for those who have caught this disease that their fitness could be affected for a long time.
