Hey troops just remember- it’s ok ta think a lockdown is needed ta control COVID an protect th NHS an our elderly/vulnerable as well as be gutted at being in another bloody lockdown.

Controversial point no doubt but I don’t see why footballers can’t bubble up for a month in a hotel World Cup style and have some kind of agreed upon period where they can see their families alongside a robust testing protocol.
It’s a privileged career and this is a very temporary situation so I don’t see what the harm is in taking such an approach for a month followed by a review to ensure the season can smoothly continue without any more cancelled fixtures.
With hotels not widely in use at the moment I imagine those costs could be kept to a minimum.
The footballers could of course refuse but I imagine that games being called off left right and centre will have negative repercussions for footballers so I think it’s actually in their best interests to be amenable yo solutions that allows the league seasons to complete.

With footballers being tested regularly and so many being infected now surely it would have been sensible to use `football as guinea pigs with the vaccine.40 vaccines per club thats about 3600 to vacinate the entire leagues and then with regular testing taking place they would have a group of people that could show over a short period how well the vaccine is working .If suddenly all the games can go ahead with no cancellations due to Covid then you have sufficient evidence that the vaccine will get rid of this deadly disease.We are now almost a year on and have nothing to really show.

A year on yes, but only a few weeks since the vaccine came on stream. A group of fit footballers trialing the vaccine would not have given you a good indication of how good the virus was. The trials used thousands of people of all ages and therefore has given a true reflection on how successful the vaccine is. |

Then you'll have people asking why footballers are getting it before teachers etc, I'm not sure we need them as guinea pigs given 1m+ people have already been vaccinated and publicities mainly been good. |

The point of bubbling as a squad would be primarily to take the school vector out of the equation. That being said it looks like the schools are closing now as it stands, so it will be interesting to see if the number of cancelled games starts to decrease |

I get what people are saying about footballers getting it before teachers. But the fact is that footballers are tested regularly therefore they would have ready made records to check and be able to see easily if players catch it after the vaccine or whether it is completely successful. I felt all along that the Government haven't really learnt much at all. Say when they had a match with 1000 people they could have tested every person and logged them all to see how many actually caught Covid.

In the short term that might be true - but going forward I think it is the only way to go and hopefully it will eventually lead to far fewer cancellations and enable us to complete the season |

Yes 365, it’s a fair point and would have been an interesting proposal. Perhaps they did consider it. England cricketers have done this throughout the Summer and did it for about 6/7 weeks at a time or for the duration of the Test Series. I don’t think the county teams did it because that would have been needed all summer. I suspect the cost would have been too much and I bet the bubbles would have been broken left right and centre. UTG! |
