I would genuinely love an answer to this. No one has said a word about us singing a 4th RB in the last window! Why? I can’t believe everyone has gone quiet on this? So many on here were slaughtering Garner for having 4 left backs in a squad (apparently you can’t differentiate between a LB and a LWB) yet we’ve come out of the last window with 3 left backs and 4 right backs and no one is saying a word?! What’s worse is we don’t know if it was Widdrington or Garner that signed Dave T and Ali K but we know as sure as eggs are eggs that Tisdale signed Williams as it was his mate from MK!! Garner 4 Left Backs = world caving in. Tisdale 4 Right Backs = tumble weed. Please at least have some consistency! Ben, Williams was signed because we need an experienced, decent defender to man the back line and looks an improvement from the couple of games he has played so it’s a plus from my point of view. just another six or seven players to go and we may stand a chance of staying up

Because he only signed one of those. PT tried Hare and Little, who are both injury prone anyway, and decided they weren’t good enough. They have gone missing since Williams came in. No idea who your fourth is and frankly don’t really care. Garner signed MK to a new contract (as good as signing him on altogether) after playing him for 6 months. Then he proceeded with signing on AK and DT, then playing Leahy in the first few games of the season. How very odd?! Why are you so obsessed with banging the drum for BG like AF has said he’s gone. He isn’t coming back. Thank god for that too. Even with PTs form BG is the worst manager I’ve experienced as a gashead. Perhaps people aren’t responding to your point as they’re incredulous to your points or they think you’re actually connected to Ben Garner somehow. It comes across very, very odd. The other one is Alex Rodman. Dave T signed a week before the season started and Koiki signed on the 22nd October! Hence why Leahy started the season. Dave T only trained a few weeks at most and Koiki hadn’t even joined! Seems to me whenever Rodman has been played left back it has been as cover. He’s a right winger. The radio commentator yesterday seemed to think he was coming on as a striker (which is equally funny) Michael Kelly has played the vast majority of games for Rovers as a Left Back. If Garner intended to sign Tutonda and Koiki, then why bother giving Michael Kelly a contract? It’s not just left back which is odd either. Garner collected central midfielders like they were going out of fashion too. Whilst most wouldn’t be against signing Liddle, McCormick, and Oztumer at the times these players came in we were screaming out for more attacking players.

Pretty sure Rodman replaced Daly at No 10, although it's hard to follow on iFollow? It's interesting to see that Kelly was in the National League team of the week on his debut when playing in his natural position at LB, even if carls2020/BG thought LCB was his best position no other manager seems to agree with that view. Suggesting Rodman was a left back is just plain odd as he's rarely played in that position, nor LWB, during his ROvers career.

I wouldn’t consider him to be one though at all and would consider it out of place if he was played there. Just as much as I would be covering my eyes reading Kelly at LCB.

If carlts2020/BG actually followed Rovers then they'd know full well why Williams was signed. Next they'll be querying why we needed Day when we already had JVS on the books.

Williams is a good signing as a versatile right back who can at least defend and get forward.
He also seems to be fairly vocal and switched on - but the main thing with him is he's fit!
Rodman played most of his games under Coughlan as a RWB in a 5-3-2 but with more licence to get forward than whoever was played at LWB.

I agree with a lot of this and it is very well put. However, we now have 4 players for one position at RWB. Having signed Williams we now have Hare, Little, Williams and Rodman. That tells me the squad shape / size / structure is not in the gaffers hands but the recruitment team not Garner or Tisdale. We cannot be aghast at having LL, DT and AK on one side then go into the next window and end up with LH, ML, GW and AR on the other. I would genuinely love an answer to this. No one has said a word about us singing a 4th RB in the last window! Why? As much as I like debating the minutiae of Rovers transfer policy all Sunday I had the afternoon off... think you told me to! in all seriousness, you are right and we are overstocked at RB too. However, I think the same principles are being applied in that I suspect ML is out of contract this summer (don’t know about Hare) and therefore Williams is a replacement. We are back in the realms of splitting hairs when it comes to Rodman as he played RWB a lot under GC but only because Little and Hare were injured - he isn’t really a wingback over his career and I suspect he’s also out of contract at the end of this year so you could Argue Williams is in place as the only right back going forward. Whoever mentioned CMs I was going to mention that earlier but stuck to one element of our business in the summer. It was similar in that we had probably recruited correctly in terms of replacements for players that had left and players that were going out of contract in 2021 (Grant for Ogogo, Liddle for Upson, McCormick for Clarke, Westbrooke for Sercombe) and then Oz came along and was almost directly a replacement for Westbrooke. I think as long as we survive this season we need to give PT the summer to rectify shortcomings in the balance of the squad and if there are any issues like January then clearly the problem is further up the chain and the whole recruitment department needs to be looked at from the top down.

LB is very different to LWB. Garner releases Holmes-Dennis abs signed Tutonda and koiki. So under your analogy last year we had 3 left backs and this year we have 4? Hardly the squad building crime of the century is it? The fact is we have 3 LBs and 3 RBs in the squad. That seems right to me. 3LBs 3RBs and 5CHs I thought RB was totally different to RWB, or so you said? As far as I see it; Rodman: RW (can also play RWB) Little: RB Hare: RWB Williams: RB (can also play RWB) So thats an injury prone RW, RB & RWB and a potentially fit RB in Williams. Hope thats the answer to your question.

Just so it’s clear we had Kelly, THD and Kelly at the club when Garner joined so he increased the left side defenders by one player. Both young, development players to improve. As Kelly was released / sold you then have 3 solid options at LB / LWB including two young players to develop (almost like a plan was in place)

Going back on this as Smithy says the recruitment was balanced and correct in relation to removing and adding new players. We all know a striker is required and it’s clear both BG and PT would have loved one but for one reason or another since October we haven’t been able to find one.

I’m going to leave it here with one final post as it’s now the build up to a must win game on Tuesday.
My final position is that regardless of the previous managers faults, whether you liked him or disliked him. If you can get over the loss of form at the end of last season or not.
If you think the recruitment was good, bad, indifferent or that Garner loves LBs and hates strikers.
That’s your prerogative.
But make no mistake. When BG was sacked we were not in relegation form, we were not in the relegation places and we were improving as a team. Unbeaten against teams around us and below us.
We now have a team that is on the verge of relegation. Awful form, not won in 9 games and changed in terms of formation and personnel on a weekly basis. We have lost or drawn to teams around us and below us. We ship goals like the titanic ships in water and can’t score for toffee.
Changing manager when we did was one of the worst board level decisions I have ever witnessed.
If we go down it’s due to the boards decision to sack a manager and down to Tisdale due to performance and results.
That is the bottom line here.

The bottom line is either you're a WUM or in someway connected to BG.

Changing manager when we did was one of the worst board level decisions I have ever witnessed. That's not really played out yet, though, has it. We're in the middle of his tenure and you're telling us how it's gonna work out, so there is no bottom line, yet. Ten or so games into DC's reign it would have been easy to say that that was one of the worst board decisions ever witnessed, too. If you look it up on Wikipedia you'll be able to see how that worked out. We don't know how PT's reign will pan out. Maybe we will go down and not look like coming back up and you will have a reasonable point, but if we stay up and make progress, then your comment will be nonsense. But what is sure, however PT's tenure pans out, appointing BG was in fact one of the worst board level decisions ever made. That's done now, the results are in, and it was a terrible decision. Re. PT we don't know yet.

Chop the stats up all you like to suit your agenda. But I sincerely believe we would have got relegated under Garner.
The football was crap and we struggled to hold onto wins. Aside from Lincoln we didn’t look like a side that was deserving of those wins we did manage to get. We were riding a crest, which if you want to go by stats is exactly what they’d indicate.
At least with PT we have rolled the dice

Joking aside, probably the worst board decision I have witnessed is the choice to not back Graham Coughlan when in a strong promotion position and shoehorn Ben Garner in and undo all his hard work in the name of attractive football. I know it’s history now but we would’ve been relegated if not for Cougjlsn and who dismantles a winning team like that? Unbelievable really but something isn’t quite right at the top.

I think they’re the same positions as we discussed before but the difference is that Rodman isn’t a RWB, he’s a RW. On top of that, you have Little and Hare always injured so we didn’t actually have a fit RB. It was highlighted by everyone except yourself and Garner (if there’s a difference) that we needed a RB as we were playing Ehmer there. In LB we had a fit Kelly, fit Leahy, fit Tutonda and fit Koiki. Kelly was re-signed by Garner so that constitutes as his signing of a LB. He signed 3 LBs in the summer whilst already having Leahy on the books. I struggle to see how you can’t spot the difference.

“We weren’t in relegation form when Garner was fired”
1 point from last 4 games 12 points from 11 games all season
No matter how you look at that, that’s relegation form.
Never mind if we look at his entire record, the fact that he took the 4th best team in L1 and made them the worst. Then, when he was backed an unbelievable amount, he could only take them from being the worst in the league to 5th worst in the league.
If you think that’s success and good, then I genuinely would question if you’re a Rovers fan, which I do not say lightly.
