Correct. And now apparently it was obvious that we were putting in a new manager who was at a disadvantage to Garner in terms of getting the best out of these players. Yet apparently sacking Garner was the right thing to do. You couldn’t make it up. He’s gone, get over it, and unlikely to manage another professional team again in my opinion. See above.

Why is it taking so long for garner to make a descion on all the job offers he has been offered?we need him back in the dugout showing the world his ppg from his last 8 games was cut short in its prime.

See above, he’s gone, not coming back, get over it, Dennis Rofe should never of got the sack but I got over it. We’re still in the season of his sacking and the consequences of it are beginning to be seen. The same people that made that decision are still running the club. Pretty naive to not expect debate to continue as to whether it was a mistake or not.

I think the form under Tisdale vindicates how disastrous it was to appoint Garner rather than redeem him in any way.
Garner took a team fourth in the division, proceeded to lose 9 out of his first 12 games as well as getting us out of both cup competitions. In hindsight we should have sacked him in the summer.
Then we have an awful summer of recruitment under his leadership, replacing stalwarts such as Craig, Clarke and Sercombe with the underwhelming dross we’ve had to put up with all season.
This seasons form, the main argument by the pro Garner camp, was disappointing too. Averaging 1.09 points game, extrapolated to 50 points in 46 games, this includes drubbings at the hands of Fleetwood and Doncaster. Easily an amount to suggest we were heading to relegation under BG, that’s if we even maintained that form which isn’t certain in itself considering it was starting to go downhill towards the end of his tenure.
I can’t thing of a single positive legacy from his tenure apart from signing Nicholson, he’s laid the foundations for the huge struggle that we have on our hands for the rest of this season.
History won’t look kindly on Ben Garner at Bristol Rovers, I’m afraid.

Look guys, you’re not gonna agree so can you not just agree to disagree and call it quits? This continues bickering about Garner v Tisdale is taking over every thread and you’re all just regurgitating the same stuff! Both managers made mistakes, both managers had their positives, both managers didn’t deliver or perform to the required expectations and ultimately both got rightly or wrongly sacked....

It’s more about the clubs hiring / sacking policy and where we are going as a club. Backing then sacking a manager has resulted in us now being in a relegation battle. As we are in the process of recruiting a 3rd manager in 3 months I think the conversations are definitely relevant and should continue. We have threads talking about Neil Harris, Tony Pulis and similar as realistic candidates for the club as next manager. If anything we should stop those conversations as when we inevitably don’t hire anyone anywhere near that calibre there will be moans and groans galore

Based on all this logic, I’m surprised to see these posters not arguing that DC should have been backed further/not sacked.
With DC we were really building something, one bad season and that was it. With Garner we were going back to where DC rescued us from, but some are ok with that?

I would give it to Widdrington to the end of the season. He backs the squad and the coaching staff, he has said so repeatedly. Why waste money hiring someone else? If the players are good enough and the coaching staff are good enough Tommy can surely do the rest.

We never know whether we’ve made the right decision. For what it’s worth, DC has done a far better job in league 2 than GC or Ollie have done this season. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see him get Walsall back up in the next year or two if they stick with him. The timing of Garner’s dismissal was really odd as there had been signs of improvement. Can’t really argue that his record was abysmal overall, win record of 18% and all! Tisdale is anyone’s guess. He seems a bit of an odd bloke but it would be hard to argue that he got a fair crack of the whip.
It’s a mess and if we can somehow stay in this division by hook or by crook, we’ll have had a right result. Surely even by luck alone Wael will get an appointment right at some stage.....

Conveniently forgetting the bloated unsustainable wage bill, water poor off field set up and standards as well as awful player recruitment. Why, did he steal Waels money and pay for everything without Wael knowing? He spent a budget allocated to him, that's on Wael. I'd say our off-field set up was far superior to the one Garner set up. Marcus Stewart, GC, Hargreaves, Maher all did well. Under Garner, it all failed. As for player recruitment, there were some poor ones - sure. But most of that squad were 4th the season after. In fact, if you look at GC's last game at Ipswich, only Jaakola & Tyler Smith were GCs signings, the rest all here under DC. If we compare it to Garner, unsure on wage bill as we haven't seen it, worst off field set up in recent history and the worst player recruitment I've potentially ever seen. The fact that a Rovers fan could defend Garner over DC - well, they're just not Rovers fans. Btw, you never answered my question the other day. Do you remember what was the colour of Greasy Joe’s burger box at Twerton?

Some on here remind me of the Japanese soldiers in ww2 who refused to believe the war was over and still stayed loyal to the emperor years later in deserted outposts

We have threads talking about Neil Harris, Tony Pulis and similar as realistic candidates for the club as next manager. If anything we should stop those conversations as when we inevitably don’t hire anyone anywhere near that calibre there will be moans and groans galore I get that and as you’ll know from some of my earlier posts in these conversations I do think that Garner was sacked too early as I did think we were improving and had started to get results inconsistently.... I was expecting this season to be like that with the huge turnover in squad, the change in style and the lowering of the age etc but obviously he was delivering what was needed in the eyes of the board and to many fans.... the fact he was sacked is a decision that was taken. I also felt PT may have been sacked too early but after the comments he made after the Oxford game and the fact the form was so poor, I can understand why. For me we are in a difficult position - it will be a huge risk going with inexperience again when we are in a relegation fight but likewise I don’t think we should throw away our strategic ambition hence my view we should look to put a temporary position in charge and reevaluate in the summer.... I’d maybe be looking in house too for the short term and in the summer look to bring someone in depending on whether we’ve managed to stay up or if we do get relegated then the asks will be different.... I do think our squad in the main is good enough, they lack confidence and league one nous which they’re gaining masses of this year... our only gap in my eyes is a lack of an experienced, proven striker.... Time will tell but for everyone I think this season has been a huge learning experience that we need to all learn the lessons from as I completely agree that we can’t keep hiring and sacking managers...

I hope you are not suggesting that was all down to Darrel Clarke. The wages of players is down to the board. The off field set up was put in place by Darrel. Some signings were not up to expectations but I think he more than made up for that with the decent signings but didn’t Widderington have a hand in the latter of Darrels time here!
