It's still the best home performance for a while apart from Portsmouth, which was a bit of a fluke game post Tisdale's departure. Although until this week's games are played we won't know if it was Rovers playing well or Shrewsbury just having an off day. Regardless you can sense Barton has a plan and the players are battling for him, hopefully, they are good enough to stay up. I agree with much of that but to describe the Pompey home win as a “bit of a fluke” is very unfair. Pompey were awful, nearly as bad as Shrewsbury but in that match we didn’t nearly throw it away at the end and, considering the opposition, it was a very good win. Perhaps the most relevant part to come after yesterday is that we have seen 4 fairly consistent performances which could and should have led to more points. Pompey win, a performance at Gillingham which should have resulted in us being up and winning before we messed up, an unlucky defeat against Wigan with a decent enough performance and yesterdays convincing performance which we still almost threw away. Overcome our defensive weakness in the middle and we should be ok. UTG!

Yesterday has renewed my hope. My worry is still the mistakes that me make at the back and our lack of potency up front. Hanlan took his goal well but he missed good chances as well. I can’t see him getting more than 5 before now and the end of the season. He will have to go on the goal scoring form of his life. Ayunga was great against pompey but then he showed his lack of experience against Wigan with a shot that he should have crossed and a silly foul that lead to the Wigan winner. I’m not sure he can be trusted in our position. I can’t see us winning games by more than the odd-goal so it’s imperative we defend as a team like we did yesterday. Hanlan just needs to shoot more often. Stands to reason if you only take one shot in a game there is less chance of scoring. Any striker will fancy scoring at least 1 goal if they get six shots in a game. Yep, Hanlan is actually a decent finisher - he just rarely shoots. That’s not to say he can’t improve his finishing, but if Joey and the new team can work on his confidence and finishing - he’d be a hell of a player.

Many posters have over the last months been saying we lacked leadership. The return of one of senior and most respected players in Rodman has had an positive influence on the team. He has had a couple of of strong performances as has Leahy who seems well suited to the Captains role. Leahy may not be our best defender but he does have an eye for goal. The win has cheered me up tremendously. Not only a win but the style in which we won gives me hope we will survive Rodman was superb yesterday, and you can tell every time you hear him speak in the press, that he's a very likeable and wise bloke to have around the place. Good footballer as well which certainly helps! Leahy has really surprised me as captain. He's been excellent, and absolutely shows the sort of leadership we've been lacking. I'd be tempted to continue with him as captain even when Ehmer is back fit to be honest. I would agree and wonder even when Elmer gets fit ....would he walk back in ?

But people want Leahy and Elmer out as mistake prone so time for a new captain? 😘

If you look at the goal, it seemed to me that he immediately looked up to try and get a pass away and only when he realised there was nothing else on did he then get his head down and go for the shot. Hopefully the goal and the support he’s had from Joey will help that.

These don't seem to make it to the YouTube channel for some reason: I wonder why they had to do these interviews during the evacuation of Saigon?

The interview screen is new and a lot more professional, however, 6 attack helicopters running past in the background was a tad distracting / noisy / unprofessional* (*delete as appropriate)

Watched a post match interview of the Shrewsbury player David Edwards & he said we couldn’t match the intensity of Bristol Rovers play, which when you think that the Shrews have recently beat a lot of the top teams bodes well for upcoming games if we can keep those levels up.

But people want Leahy and Elmer out as mistake prone so time for a new captain? 😘 Leahy has undeniably been mistake prone but the good with him has outweighed the bad, certainly in the last few games. He’s a fully committed footballer that’s easy to warm to. I doubt that Ehmer lacks commitment either but for whatever reason has found it very hard to settle in under either of our previous managers. Wouldn’t surprise me to see a much better player now if the defence as a whole is better coached/organised.
