I have no interest in the Royal Family whatsoever.
However from what I've seen and heard of Prince Phillip he was a man with great character, he was very witty which also landed him in hot water at times.
Like him or loathe him you also can't deny his legacy through the Duke Of Edinburgh Award which he founded back in 1956 which has helped many young people not only here but abroad as well.

RIP Phil.
He was dealt a tough hand in life, hope he enjoyed the ride and managed to have good times in-between all the years of hard work.
Hopefully his family will be taken care of and won't have to suffer any hardships due to losing the 'bread winner'.
The nation is forever in his (and his families) debt for building a great nation that is both united and fair for all its citizens.
A great country that has shaped the world for the better.

Agreed and also the WWF. He was also kicked out of his own country and eventually settled here. When war came, he served his adopted home. His obituary is an interesting read. Whilst some may question his language and role, he leaves behind a family. Sadly another of the WWII generation gone.

I feel for his wife, obviously. Plus, absolute respect for joining us in fighting the fascists.
Other than that I am ambivalent.

RIP Poor guy must’ve finally ran out of peasants blood to drink. Is that really necessary ?. People here seem to be anti royalists but remember he was a husband. father, grandfather etc who devoted his life to his wife and this country.

I am not,I am not a Royalist however,I have utmost respect for how he dealt with the role he had been given and for everything he did for young people,a lifetime of service of which we will not see the like again.

Dont want to get into a debate. But honestly, there is no credibility in an un democratic institution using other peoples money (taxpayer) to front worthy causes and then shout "Look at me" But its a death and he has family whatever the circumstances of his life. Lets just leave it there.

Macron has come under criticism for spending €600k on flowers in the Elysee Palace despite not a single tourist coming through the door. Did that come from his back pocket? Did it heck the french taxpayer funded it. I would say the Royal Family bring in more income to the UK through tourism, trade etc than what they cost the tax payer, so have been and will continue to be good value for money.

Do you think that tourism will drop when Jug-ears and the Horse are the Leaches in Cheif at the Palace? We should have cut them off a long time ago. Then they would actually have to work for a living like the rest of us.

So if we demolish everything relating to royality in the UK you really think tourists would flock to the UK to see our presidents house? Do me a favour.

No, they’ll flock to see Buckingham Palace, former seat of the monarchy, just like they flock to see Versailles in France. Maybe you could open more of it up and have guided tours without anyone living there.

We'll find out in the fullness of time, Charles is apparently in favour of vacating Buckingham Palace and becoming independent of the Civil list.
