There'll be more public grief over the death of one 99 y/o parasite, than the 120,000 victims of a criminal pandemic response. Some people are obsessed with money, power & status, they will do anything possible to bask in its reflected glory. Must be hard for you living in this Country. |

I like the royals, it’s a nice tradition to still have. Not bothered about his death though tbh.
Completely disagree about their ‘work’ though. If touring African wilderness seeing sights people would die for and in the mornings visiting a village and shaking a few hands is considered work - sign me up!
Yes they bring in the tourism, but London would get that anyway let’s be honest.
I’ll be sad when the queen dies, but the rest of them I don’t really care about.

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh - a man that served this country for over 80 years first as a Royal Navy Officer and then as HRH The Queen's life companion.
RIP Sir and, if I may be so bold, my condolences to HRH The Queen and the Royal Family.

Bored fartless from the relentless and meaningless drivel over the last 24 hours being spewed out by our fawning media, I was driven to wonder what sort of memorial Professor Sarah Gilbert of Oxford University and one of the founders of Vaccitech will receive when her time comes by comparison. A woman who, along with her team, may well end up saving tens of thousands of lives. Now thats something worthy of recognition, not a guilded lifestyle funded by poorer people and after service in WW2 (we salute you sir) was best known for silly jokes. |

We say thank you to the Monarchy for 1200 years of our history, thank you for everything you've done for the UK, thank you for the buildings that millions flock to every year, thank you for the income you generate for the UK but f**k the lot of you we no longer need you and we'll kick you out but We'll keep all the royal palaces etc and shove a president in it. God forbid. Far too much money spent on far too many hangers on. The Queen is on of the richest people in the world. Prince Charles owns acres of land and 1000s of properties. Are you seriously suggesting they would be destitute if they stopped leaching off us? And what work do they actually do? Wave at us plebs a few times a year? My heart bleeds for them. Try being a nurse or paramedic. That's bloody working. EDIT. Prince Phillip's tax funded annual income was equivalent to around 20 nurses income. That's not taking into account his estimated 30M worth and his incomes from Dutchy estates and the Queens income that she divides up. The Queen ranked in the Sunday Times 2020 UK rich list at 372. She is ranked below the owner of the lot down the road and is not a billionaire. I very much doubt Prince Charles owns 1000s of properties. The bulk of property, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle etc, Crown Jewels, Country Estates, furniture paintings etc are not owned by the Queen/Royal family. They cannot be sold and are held in trust for future generations. You've just about insulted every person on this forum by saying you dont work unless your a nurse/paramedic. No one in life chooses their family to be born into, no one chooses to be born into wealth or poverty. Just typical comments on here about someone who has more money than they do in life. Whatever your view of the Royal Family, and the Monarchy, you are entitled to hold that view. To hold individual views is a right that was fought for by the Duke of Edinburgh and all of his, and Her Majesty The Queen's, generation.
So have your view, but please don't let this thread descend into argument. It is to remember The Duke - please can I respectfully request that other discussion be taken elsewhere in General Chat.
