Well most likely that £81m could go to those who need it, rather than propping up the rich? I like the royals, but you can’t surely think that the money couldn’t go to a better cause when they sit in millions of wealth? Is there a difference between private wealth for private matters and the taxpayer funds spent on public duties demanded of a Head of State? Any other public ‘department’ losing £81m per year would have been closed down or restructured years ago. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want the royal family to be more financially independent than they currently are. |

The PM is Head of Government, not Head of State. Yeah I know. I was suggesting that the PM would be HoS Politically dangerous to combine both roles and powers into one person, the Constitutional equivalent of appointing judge, jury and executioner. But my original point still stands, the costs won't necessarily be lower as the function and duties remain. |

In fairness, he was ahead of his time on the environment and has voluntarily been paying (some) income tax on Dutchy revenue for 20 years or so. |

This thread isn't about me... But I don't choose the current UK environment, so am happy to be critical of its many obvious failures. You are suggesting that everyone just has to make do with the environment (system of power) around them, which is the wrong outlook IMO. I'm not suggesting that at all,I have had to live in and work in many environments I did not care for not everything was bleak and found working for change much more positive than using up energy worrying about how bad it all was. There is not one eutopian country in this world the challenge is how do we make it more inclusive with fair share for everyone. I'm not worrying about 'how bad it all is', I'm saying what I see. There are utopias, only they are for the wealthy classes, not the rest of us. There can't be anywhere near a fair share for everyone in the current hierarchical system, that much has been obvious for thousands of years. |
