I agree with you that I have some strong skepticism about transforming the club into Barton Rovers. Nothing to do with it being Joey Barton I would be saying the same whoever it was. What is the average life span for a league manager? I can't be bothered to check but three yearsish? It's inevitable that Joey will leave whether that's because we ask him to or he decides himself. When that happens we will have another complete reset. The same as when any manager leaves or gets sacked! Can you tell me the last manager we had, that did exactly the same, as the one previous? I cannot remember, ever, in the history of the club, when directors have been appointed to or removed from the board or their job roles redefined on the say so of the manager. Can you tell me the last manager we had that did that? I don't think there is one. Can you tell me any club who has done that? Ollie bought shares in Grimsby but didn't get a seat on the board nor the ability to put his mates in place and oust others.

I've thought of one - Barry Fry at Peterborough before Darragh MacAnthony came on board. Barry was owner, Chairman and First Team Manager and it was a f**king shambles. So much so that the BBC did a documentary on it. Which D Mac saw and that's how he came on board. Edit - sorry it was Sky One's Big Ron Manager.

Tommy was brought to the club as head of recruitment, which changed to DOF when we appointed Garner, but as I understand it, he was still responsible for recruitment. He also publicy stated he was there for the manager to lean on as well as for him to guide.
Now the recruitment was poor but also his oversight in some places questionable. EG, allowing his manager to go into the season with 4 left backs, 3 strikers, 1 outright winger who was also injured. He was equally as culpable for the relegation in some scores as Garner and Tisdale.

The taking away of a title will not harm him, when I say harm him, I mean it will not see wages decrease.

Well I agree that if you completely ignore the fact that: - Gibson is Barton's mate from Fleetwood; and - Barton said he would insist on having full control of recruitment, making Widdrington's position untenable then there's nothing to suggest Barton had anything to do with it. But only if you ignore all the evidence that it is obviously Barton's doing.

I hope when Joey talked about cutting out the cancer in our club he also included some of the constant sh** stirrers in social media and on the forums. Good to have opinions but constant outpourings and lies does nothing for your credibilty. It's actually cowardly!! Some of the things being claimed / alleged about a guy spending his own money to keep us afloat is downright ungrateful. Without him we could very possibly have gone out of business. Yes he may have made a few strange calls and will learn from his mistakes - possibly the biggest one being letting Hamer, Starnes and Widdrington run things in his absence. That's what gets me about the anti Wael brigade, I assume the OP is one of the regular posters on the other forum, what's the alternative to Wael as owner, probably administration, as I can't imagine they'll be a rush of investors wanting to buy a L2 side playing in a ground only fit for non league football.

I am happy to be corrected but I thought TW was made DOF when BG was sacked and Tis appointed with the explanation that his actual role would not be changed greatly. UTG!

Going nowhere, we’ve been absolutely sh**e for four years now, bar the the short period under GC. I think it’s what we need. So what if he’s bringing his people across. It’s not even a gamble, it’s got to happen.

When you realise there are none. Have a think about why that might be.

He was a director in title only and as far as I’m aware, had no authority over the 1st team manager in a hierarchal way. The 1st coach/manager reports to MS. TW was mainly a go between between MS and the 1st team manager and assisting with recruitment and players contracts. If Joey is reporting into MS and Wael now and feels he doesn’t need or cannot trust Tommy then it’s quite appropriate in my view that Tommy is given something else to do and Joey is given the person he needs to do his job.

I assume that Wael was impressed when the colonel did the review of the club, and decided that he would be a good addition to the Board. Yes, he was known to Joey from work he did at Fleetwood, bu I think it’s absurd to say it was Joey who appointed him to the Board.

Have a think about why that might be. He hasn’t removed board members, he’s been given a new role? He wasn’t very good at recruitment, it’s been handed over to the management. Makes perfect sense. We’re you happy with TW performance?

I hope that the new board structure will be successful. However, my hopes are tinged with scepticism just from a feeling that Wael (being such a nice guy), is easily bowled over by anyone who talks a good game. JB being masterful at that. There have been many people that have impressed him in the last 2 years, and many of them have wildly different views on what it takes to make a successful club and team. Wael now needs to get his head straight and pick a direction and run with it. Maybe that's what he's done with Joey, but the evidence so far points towards him changing his mind whenever another impressive person whispers into his ear.

Name a single other organisation in the world, sporting or otherwise, that have allowed second tier management to appoint and remove board members. When you realise there are none. Have a think about why that might be. Most non executive board members that i know come on a recommendation from somebody at some level. if a second tier manager feels that they know someone who has the right level of experience to assist that company in going forward then they should be encouraged to make a recommendation. It is so much better than employing someone cold who does not fit in with the dynamic of the company . This does not guarantee them the job and Wael would definitely have chatted at some length to make sure that he will fit in with future plans. A non executive will always challenge the decision making process on behalf of the people that they represent - in this case it is said to be the fans . The supporters club representatives failed to gel with Wael etc and the lack of fan representation has been critiscised in the past. This appointment looks to be designed to bring a better balance to the boardroom - ie someone who brings an outside perspective to the traditional way that a football club is run. His impressive cv should reassure people that he recognises bullshit and will not be afraid to ruffle a few feathers if that needs to happen. The guy has his own impressive cv and carried out some work at the end of last season to show what he offers. It is true that JB facilitated the introduction but you only have to look at his background to realise that he does his own thinking. This could be a good appointment for us all.

Wael did a brilliant job in bailing the club out when he took over and investing over 20million since, but I don't think anyone can deny with the exception of GC and TG his recruitment of managerial and back room staff has been poor. With our strong financial position relative to other lower league clubs we should have done far better last season. Hopefully Barton will turn things around but he does need to get on and bring in a couple of decent strikers, other clubs in this division have already recruited some quality forwards we cannot afford to miss the boat again.

Just for my own sanity what is the actual latest update we have... At one point just before the lockdown happened MS said we are going to have some good news in a couple of weeks. Then because of the pandemic that was all put 'on hold' somewhat understandably A bit of digging around the Bristol Live Q&A and I found: Fruit Market update?
Latest rumours are all the space has been bought and the current traders are relocating. Sam's reply:We're told the deal is not yet signed off, it remains in the hands of lawyers. As you can appreciate, that is a rather complex process, but optimisim remains that it will be completed soon. and then there was this: Hi Sam, I read a article where you said that a stadium at the fruit Market would involve a lease. Is this the land or the whole stadium and what would make it better than the UWE deal that they walked away from as wanted to own it outright? Sam's reply:It's worth noting that the development of the fruit market is going to be multi-faceted and Rovers will only be connected to the stadium part of the project. The club are not involved in the buying of the site, that is being led by a third-party developer. Instead, Rovers will be brought on board once the sale is completed. The arrangement, should everything go to plan, in terms of stadium ownership or leasing, is yet to be confirmed.I don't know if it is same for everyone (probably not) but I am quite optimistic that the owner and club are doing stuff to get us a new stadium and that we were pretty close on the site just before the pandemic hit. Nothing really has changed for me since that interview last year other than having to wait a bit longer for the economic impact of the pandemic etc Is that where were currently are, or have I missed important messages etc? The post have been making similar claims for the best part of two years now, it’s all nonsense and waffle I’m afraid. So are you saying the Post are simply making things up? Do you know any different?

The manager has only the short term success of the team as priority. A manager whilst often playing lip service to academies etc isnt that bothered. The money being spent on a 13 year old today is money he wont get to spend on his squad. He will not be at the club when the 13year old is ready for first team football.
The manager SHOULD get full control of the short term stuff . The club SHOULD have full control over the long term projects.
This means the club need to make sure young players get the right loan moves to get the experience to make them suitable options for the first team manager. Often a manager loans players out just to get them off the wage bill for his own benefit not the players or clubs long term good.
Im not sure if the latest TW position move is to help make this happen or whether its coincidence and he is just being pushed aside.

HarryStoke Gas, here’s a bit of info ta really get yer teeth into: What if I was ta tell you Wael al Qadi and his ownership was being orchestrated by Skynet when it became self aware in 2016. I would terminate the comment BJ. I ask you to respect the fact the OP wants to grind his axe, and spent a long time and wrote a whole page of A4 about it… Maybe the OP should be on the Board #skills
