The thing is, those of us who were on the old official forum and 606 remember that Higgs was constantly criticised for all the opposite reasons Wael is (not pumping in enough money, not splashing the cash enough, not writing off the debt). Now Wael is doing all the things those people wanted, most of those same people are saying Higgs was a golden era. It's difficult not to believe that those voices aren't just there because they always want the club up for sale because they hope they might be the one (or ones) to buy it. Well let me explain myself. I criticised Higgs for taking out the Wonga loan, I criticised him for going through managers like a moth goes through fine cloth. I even cast doubt on his ability to take us forwards financially after it became apparent that he wasn’t willing to put any more of the Cowlin sale into the football club. However I never once doubted that he didn’t have the right intentions at heart, that he didn’t want us to build a new stadium or achieve success. Higgs wasn’t a golden era, but it was an era of transparent communication, actually putting an effort into creating a project to deliver a new stadium and staying true to intentions and not twisting and finding some new cool fad of running the football club every time the wind changes. We now have an owner, that got into football by going to university in the 80s and supporting Chelsea, who views us as a distraction, a little play thing while the real world happens around him and his brother Hani puts actual effort into keeping the investment bank alive after the sad passing of his father. He might have the same passion as Higgs, but he doesn’t exemplify the same understanding of how businesses in Britain are run. Higgs came into owning rovers, a success business man having succeeded in the construction industry, his business was sold to Balfour Betty in a multi million pound deal ffs. All Wael’s wealth is inherited, I personally find it a bit sad that he’s decided to P?!s it away on an underperforming football club rather than invest it, spend it on his own happiness or give it away to charity. I want nothing to do with the purchasing of BRFC, a waste of money if you ask me. However it is true that I know people that would be more forgiving in their assessment and willing to take the club on given the right assurances. You know people ?? That answers a few questions for me, it seems this stream of anti Wael messages comes from a desire of a couple of mates of yours wanting to own Rovers. All smacks of a bit of a playground tiff, someone else has something I want so I'll throw a tantrum and hope that works for me.

I don’t think you can say he’s aiming in the wrong direction at least, last time we took a step backwards we turned around and took 2 steps forward. I believe we can do that again. Utg People who accept defeat, will never achieve net success. That’s just a fact. We got 2 relegations last time, followed by 2 promotions and now a relegations. That’s 2 promotions and 3 relegations. A net result of one step in the wrong direction. It’s time Rovers fans stopped being lackeys and started having some ambition. In wanting something new, different for the football club, I believe I’ve showed plenty of that in this thread. Something new and different? ? All you've done is bang on about how great Higgs was. Apart from moving to the Mem the club was stuck in the 1980s with all the jobs for the boys.

Would it help if I called him a f**king nauseating w**ker to knock you off top spot as “the rudest poster” ? Well I’m not going to bother hitting the report button to this as I realise there is no chance of mod action unlike most forums. All I can say is what a shame that this poster hasn’t bothered to debate constructively and critically. His loss I suppose. 😂

However it is true that I know people that would be more forgiving in their assessment and willing to take the club on given the right assurances. Thanks for your considered response. I have to say it sounds a lot like you are admitting to criticising Wael for doing the opposite things you criticised Higgs for. The fact that you say you are friends with someone who wants to buy the club does add a certain amount of colour to your line of argument. There are a couple of things you've said I have to disagree with I'm afraid: Higgs era being one of transparent communication- sorry but no. Higgs was continually torn to shreds on the old official forum (and I actually think there are threads on this place) for his lack of communication. People made such a fuss that he eventually started doing his weekly news letter for about 9 months but people again ragged that for not just saying "I'm pumping in £20m to get us to the Championship and ground has been broken on a stadium build" every week. Eventually it dropped down to once a fortnight or so then disappeared completely again. "staying true to intentions and not twisting and finding some new cool fad of running the football club every time the wind changes" - you missed the Feng Shui goldfish bowl behind the goal then? How about Ray Graydon's army boot camps? Ian Atkins sitting in the TV gantry and phoning his instructions down to pitch side? I'm sure I've missed a few. Higgs was a successful businessman - again, I think I disagree. He might have had a lot of money but I don't think you could say he was a successful businessman. Cowlin construction was not Higgs' business. It was 130 years old when he sold it. I'm not entirely sure but I'm quite convinced that he too inherited his place in that business. I had contractor mates who would tell me that in the 90s if Higgs offered them work they would always turn it down because they knew that the day before the job was due to start he would call them back with the offer doubled. You find it sad that Wael is spending his money on BRFC rather than "spending it on his own happiness or giving it to charity" - what's it got to do with you? That's not really a reason that someone shouldn't own a football club is it? Because you think it would be nicer for them to go on holiday or sponsor a guide dog? As I've said - all of the voices saying much the same thing as you seem to come from people who have a mate who wants to buy BRFC ... why don't you advise him to spend it on himself or give it to charity?

I like Wael. Tbh you're lucky to get a owner that attends games these days. And Wael is there often. Flying in from Jordan. He went to Lincoln away on the train- I mean, what? The bloke's a gashed and anyone who suggests otherwise- I think does it out of racism.
While we haven't splashed huge funds in the transfer market. I don't think cash has been kept back.
In truth if we're to answer the question proposed- there hasn't been the great movement forward perhaps we had hope for. But we stopped moving forward after we got the Mem- Wael hasn't put the breaks on. He's kept us moving.
Until a stadium happens that will be the mark of all rovers owners. But the understatement of the century is that this is easier said than done.
Wael- has my backing.

Following on your comment about me on the other forum for calling you out, you called me “the rudest poster” you’d ever met and “impertinent”, so I’m not sure you really want to communicate with me!! I’m a bit confused as earlier on I seemed “decent” on this thread. I’m slightly puzzled, not for the first time I have to say. I. Sorry to be thought of as “impertinent”, I’ll promise to doff my cap in future and only speak when spoken to! 😉 But...and if you could answer I would be grateful. Why are we lackeys for, presumably, having a different opinion from you? How do we lack ambition? We had a totally crap season but I still want to see us play as high as we can. Just because others have a different opinion from you doesn’t mean they are lackeys or they lack ambition. And that is exactly what I mean when I accuse you of showing disrespect, sowing dissention and being a WUM. Do you not realise that calling fellow posters “lackeys” is really not helping your case? This “something new, different”, what is it, a different owner? A different way of doing things? Again you’ve not said what it is. You’ve suggested you have put reasoned arguments yet have yet to put forward an alternative to WAQ who has been funding us through these awful times. Saying you’ve made reasoned arguments in your response to Hugo is not the same as doing it. As others have said people with the necessary financial muscle are not banging down our door to take us over. Of course WAQ has made errors but he has all done some very good things as highlighted in bluestick’s very full post. Seriously, who do you have in mind to take us over? I’d really like to know this person who will solve what you’ve said is our financial worries and who will build our new ground. UTG! ps. And finally, don’t disrespect Big Jock. He doesn’t need me to support him, he can do that himself but he always posts with total respect to others. Pretty sure you could learn something from him. 🤔 Look mate, I’m really not here to discuss who is or isn’t rude, that’s really not the conversation I want to be having. This is a Rovers forum and all I want to do is discuss Rovers, really that’s all I want. You want me to answer your question, so I’ll give you the courtesy of answering. Rovers fans aren’t (in general) lackeys for having a different opinion to me. Such criteria is completely irrelevant. Rovers fans are lackeys for putting their undying trust in Wael, meanwhile the club suffers relegations, leaky finances, discontented managers, decent chaps in Mansell and Hamer fired ect. A lackey would accept everything its told and support it till the bitter end, as I see many on here want to do. A sceptical, critical person such as myself challenges that side of thinking. We say to ourselves, hang on a minute, if every press release is so wonderful, every letter so correct, why isn’t the club I love dearly making any kind of progress? The answer is, we’ve been too trusting, let Wael have a free wide to continually make mistakes over and over again, whilst not putting any pressure on him to make reforms. This is utter negligence on our part, I can’t put it in any less stronger terms than that. Yes, I want something new and different. If you’re concerned about something, it’s only natural that you’d desire change in order to rectify such concerns is it not? Wael just isn’t the man I foresee taking this club onto better things and I’m not going to beat around the bush on this fact. Who do I have in mind taking us over? Well I’m not the one sitting in the boardroom examining takeover offers. However in general I’d want people with the financial means to be able to confidently cover our losses and put in a proper action plan to make us more sustainable. I’d want business nous and if it were a consortium, I’d want experience of running a football club. People have scoffed at me for saying this, but these things really aren’t out of our reach. As for disrespecting big jock, you need to read my posts back if you think I’ve done that. He’s someone who has continually mislabelled me as bitter and part of the old clique of the Higgs era, which I can assure you I’m not. All I said was he comes across as more of a parody than an actual Scotsman, which is nothing to be ashamed of because if he is a parody, he’s a very good one. Funny too. You know what, if you want to take this any further mate, I’d be happy to buy you or anyone else a beer and discuss it face to face in Bristol or the vicinity. Maybe putting a face to the poster might change your opinions. If you want to take that offer up, all you have to do is PM, and I’ll happily oblige. Thank you for replying and answering my questions. Perhaps I shouldn’t but I will reply. You say you’re not here to talk about being rude and you want to talk about Rovers stuff. But that was exactly what you did to me, accuse me so again it’s your manner of posting... No one on here has put “their undying trust in Wael”, they are not lackeys that you accuse them of being. There are a range of opinions but whereas you appear to characterise him as being bad, others who question him can see the good he has done as well as his mistakes. No one has said everything is perfect, nearly everyone has accepted the mistakes made. You’re looking at it in a very binary way whereas most on here accept the good and the mistakes made. Yet you’ve characterised them as lackeys. Quite wrong. You characterise yourself as better than us because you aren’t a “lackey” and are, “sceptical and critical”. Most on here are like that and we don’t just accept stuff. Then you accuse us of “negligence”, how by what means would you expect us to change what’s happened over the past year. Wael has ensured this club is still here and has ensured we’ve come through the pandemic. Yes, as someone said, the team has got worse but the club has made progress. Not perfect but pretty much in keeping with my 55 years of support for BRFC. Regarding who you want to take over, I can see the logic in what you say but unfortunately there hasn’t been anyone with the finance and the enthusiasm to do that. I’ve posted many times that one of the greatest lost opportunities for us has been the lack of a local, north or east Bristol, BRFC fan who’s also a very successful businessman with the level of wealth so many other clubs who’ve overtaken us in the past 20 years have been able to use. Reading, Brighton, Swansea, Brentford, Bournemouth, even Fleetwood have all thrived because they had a local, very wealthy fan who stepped up and oversaw the success of their local teams. We have lacked that person. But that is no reason to show any animosity towards Wael. He has faced enormous criticism on both forums and to say he hasn’t is to completely misrepresent what’s being said. UTG! Edit: just two further points, the managers weren’t discontented, they were just not good enough. They weren’t unhappy enough to go, we made that decision. And Wael has funded us, it’s just the managers were unable to create a successful team, so far.

I don't know about 'wrong direction, right direction or even One Direction' but it can not have escaped fans notice that football at our level , in fact at most levels , finds itself fighting just to survive at the moment and for clubs like Rovers it will be deemed a success just to be still in existence at the end of the current crisis, with that in mind i think we should be thankful we have an owner who cares enough to ensure we will still be here come the new season and is willing to back the manager in his efforts to right the wrongs of last season. Yes we all want a new or updated decent stadium but when measured against 'survival' it is not a priority. I think we all know that Harrystoke wants Wael out, disrespectful in my opinion, but that's his prerogative, and he would seem to be 1 of a very small minority, i see no reason to doubt that if there was an investor who Wael thought he could trust to ensure a better future for Rovers and in whose hands Rovers heritage and culture would be protected he would willingly step aside. The said type of owners are few and far between and we do not want to end up in a 'Blackpool', Charlton, and many others situation thank you, so until the new Messiah appears Wael will do very nicely for me.

Look I’ve just caught up and read the latest on this thread that I gave up on and it’s clear to me that this guy is never going to accept any opinion other than his own.
He is entitled to have his view and to not accept any rational challenges to it. I’m not sure what’s driving his opinion as all of his arguments are based on subjective hearsay or perception and I can’t see any clear facts to back up or evidence his opinion.
Many have counter challenged his opinion with our own facts / evidence / perception and whilst I’m all for open debate, that only works if both parties are open to debate, discussion and acceptance to then change a view or agree to disagree.... were up to 17 pages of tit for tat arguing which is just going round in circles.
There have been some disingenuous comments made based purely on assumptions and binary views which I think are uncalled for.
For me - this thread is going to end up like the Fruit Market one - pages and pages of nothingness and I’d be inclined to just close this one down as it’s just never gonna go anywhere over than constant arguing!
Call me old school (I am 47) but I was always brought up to listen and understand other peoples views , discuss rationally if you don’t agree but always respect that just because someone holds a different view doesn’t make them right and you wrong and vice versa and then ultimately both try to come to an agreed position or if you can’t, respectfully agree to disagree.
Unfortunately this thread doesn’t look like it’s gonna go that way.

That's not really the case though is it? The guy was a Gashead who suggested he was serious but Wael etc showed no interest in the plans, whilst he didn't seem to have any financial backing set up he'd appeared to have arrange finance for a similar project elsewhere (from memory). It seems Wael's just interested in the FM or not really interested in building a new stadium.

If the plans were of any substance to begin with… I deal with high ticket value cars, and I’m often looking for a car which is either a bit of a unicorn or with a high price that can be into the millions. Lots of people say they may have one, know of one, or know of someone who knows someone who has someone with one. It also happens when I get approached and ask if I know of something and when I do I always ask for proof of funds and it’s never forthcoming as all someone wants is to know who you’re connected to so they invent something. Usually, there it’s all nonsense but I’ll always give someone a chance to prove themselves. But unless I can see the product or verify the person/their seriousness in purchase I won’t waste my time. I imagine it was the same for Wael in this instance. Anyone can produce a grand plan. But if there is nothing behind it, it’s not worth the energy.
