You forgot to mention that Wael does not take out Wonga loans in order to fight court battles over watertight contracts. At least Higgs fought for the club to get a new stadium. I’ve seen a distinct lack of fight from Wael on that front so far. WUM

So I realise as a bit of a newbie on this forum that I might be opening myself to accusations ‘of not being one of us’ etc ect, but please hear me out as I just want to depart my tuppence on the ownership situation. When Wael arrived we were all but a league one club. Not having any argument that he took us up in 2016 because he didn’t. That was DC and Higgs’s success and he made a point of very publicly glorying in it. Fair enough I suppose. We now find ourselves a league two club so he’s taken us back a division as far as league position entails. Devolution not evolution then. Stadium? No progress. However more alarming for me is the way it appears Wael is easily led. Feels like he bought too much into the Garner project, we got punished. Influenced too much by Widdrington and Starnes to appoint Tisdale, didn’t go well. Now we’ve allowed the next manager to have control to appoint members to the board, fire entire departments, bring a whole host of figures including Jennings who I’ve heard is next. Who let’s a new manager wield that kind of power? Like Joey and want him to do well, but if the high bar he’s set himself this season isn’t reached which lets be fair is a possibility considering our struggles in L2 in the past, it’ll all end up with tears. You may think its benevolent that Wael appears to be handling the debt situation but asked yourselves why did we rack up that amount of debt just to achieve 0 footballing success, no progress off the field and ultimately relegation in the first place? Even the beloved training ground is having issues, with planning having to be amended halfway through construction after the architects found that the building would not be fit for purpose for a football club. The result? A smallish building designed in the 1990s with a comically lack of windows, a small dingy shed for the gym, a couple of nice pitches and nothing much else. Will they be in for the start of next season? I encourage people to look at the training facilities of Oxford or Fleetwood, or MK Dons, to see how much of a downgrade this is to equivalent football clubs. Rovers fans lap it up due to the lack of progress thats ever been made off the field which is fair enough, but this development has not yet levelled the playing field to other modern football clubs around us, not by a long stretch. Then lets analyse his management of managers shall we? 3 managers have left with clouds over their heads amid rumours of friction with the board in GC, DC and PT. Does that smack of good management to you? The other manager BG got sacked after an atrocious record and the current manager JB, although I’m willing to give him time, has a pretty abysmal record too. Then there’s been fallings out with Ken Masters, fallings out with Steve Hamer, poor treatment of Mansell, embarrassing spat with the supporters club. Not exactly great headlines to accrue. I’m concerned about our future, genuinely concerned. It’s hard to say that but as the football club is close to my heart I’ve just got to speak out and say it. I’m concerned that Wael is rapidly running out funds and has bitten off more than he can chew, I’m concerned about the power we’ve randomly let one manager wield over the club, I’m concerned that an aging fan base and a run down stadium means trouble down the line too. So let me ask you this, say an alternative group of investors came forward, they had funds, reputable contacts in the game, genuine plans for improving the football club. Would this be a ripe opportunity for Wael to step aside? The man has the club at heart as he professes and I’ve not got many bad things to say about the man as a person, so I sincerely hope he considerers his future at the club long term and if the offer is right, steps a side and becomes one of us, a fan. Cricket seasons well and truest under way. Reading how Somerset drawing with Hampshire was better than beating them is a lot more interesting, and how lot less baffling. 🤞 Somerset have played a blinder to eliminate Gloucester and improve there chances of winning the tournament.

People obviously don’t like hearing anti Wael sentiment, I’m aware of that but all I’m trying to do is put forward reasoned arguments that convey my concerns about the state of affairs please respect that. As to supporting the club, I have my season ticket for next year. Can everyone who has replied to this thread claim to have done the same? Here we go, I’m a season ticket holder I’m a better fan than you You forgot the Nah nah nah nah nah 😝

I hope when Joey talked about cutting out the cancer in our club he also included some of the constant sh** stirrers in social media and on the forums. Good to have opinions but constant outpourings and lies does nothing for your credibilty. It's actually cowardly!!
Some of the things being claimed / alleged about a guy spending his own money to keep us afloat is downright ungrateful. Without him we could very possibly have gone out of business.
Yes he may have made a few strange calls and will learn from his mistakes - possibly the biggest one being letting Hamer, Starnes and Widdrington run things in his absence.

How many million/billionaires are lining up to pour money into a loss making League Two team? For all of Waels faults, he's passionate about Rovers and is putting his money where his mouth is. I can't ask for more than that Has he put money where his mouth is? The debt was converted into equity not removed. He is passionate alright, but also incredibly naive and that makes me severely worried going forwards. Well as we've already discussed the new shares that are issued do not retain their value so it's wrong to say that the debt was not removed because it has been converted to shares. If I sell a company with a million pounds of debt the buyer has to pay one million pounds because the person to whom that debt is owed has a right to receive it. If I convert that debt into shares that obligation to pay the money to the person is gone because they have got something in return for their million pounds- the new shares issued to them. As we explored above those shares will not retain any inherent value so if I buy a company with one million £1 shares that used to be one million pounds of debt - I won't be paying £1M for the company. Like I said, the number of shares in issue is irrelevant to what a purchaser will pay. So it is wrong to say the debt has not been removed. Again, I hope you can feel more relaxed about things on that basis.

I’ve seen a distinct lack of fight from Wael on that front so far. How long was Higgs here before Uwe was announced??? Without half the country being on hold for over a year. Everyone was moaning that Higgs was doing nothing then, but he was planning for years in secret. At the end of the day, we don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, even though lots make out they do. No one posted about Uwe at the time. Pointless debate really. As unless you have a time machine, you won’t know what Wael has been working on. Can you honestly say, you knew about the Uwe and Sainsbury’s secret meetings, plans etc for years before the rest of us???

Just for my own sanity what is the actual latest update we have...
At one point just before the lockdown happened MS said we are going to have some good news in a couple of weeks. Then because of the pandemic that was all put 'on hold' somewhat understandably
A bit of digging around the Bristol Live Q&A and I found:
Fruit Market update?
Latest rumours are all the space has been bought and the current traders are relocating.
Sam's reply: We're told the deal is not yet signed off, it remains in the hands of lawyers. As you can appreciate, that is a rather complex process, but optimisim remains that it will be completed soon.
and then there was this:
Hi Sam, I read a article where you said that a stadium at the fruit Market would involve a lease. Is this the land or the whole stadium and what would make it better than the UWE deal that they walked away from as wanted to own it outright?
Sam's reply: It's worth noting that the development of the fruit market is going to be multi-faceted and Rovers will only be connected to the stadium part of the project.
The club are not involved in the buying of the site, that is being led by a third-party developer. Instead, Rovers will be brought on board once the sale is completed.
The arrangement, should everything go to plan, in terms of stadium ownership or leasing, is yet to be confirmed.
I don't know if it is same for everyone (probably not) but I am quite optimistic that the owner and club are doing stuff to get us a new stadium and that we were pretty close on the site just before the pandemic hit. Nothing really has changed for me since that interview last year other than having to wait a bit longer for the economic impact of the pandemic etc
Is that where were currently are, or have I missed important messages etc?

This is the understanding I have of the situation based on what we have been told. I believe other posters are claiming this is all nonsense and they know for a fact that the deal is off and we are no longer looking at a new stadium as pretty soon wael will run out of money.

It's certainly interesting he is being so optimistic yet we have posters here and on the other forum categorical in their belief it is dead in the water. We don't have any idea who the original sources are or their reasoning for the leaks, it seems to me Sam Frost doesn't seem to have an obvious motive to mislead, he didn't have to be so specific about the details just to maintain interest in his Q&As or clickbait articles. It could be that both Frosty and those posters are correct in that the 'original' plan has been shelved but a revised one now in place.

Wael very possibly saved the club from extinction but has achieved very little from the money he has put into the club.
There did seem to be a strategy with the Garner era of develop young players but it certainly did not work, primarily because there was no balance in the squad (age and positionally) and possibly the youngsters signed had been released for a reason. A seemingly good idea that proved a disaster.
I'm not sure I know the strategy now but it looks a lot more short term with signings so far directed at competing in the bottom tier of league football. They can probably do a job in league 2 but not much prospect of adding value in the transfer market.
I guess the Barton aim is a promotion and an improved CV and few will grumble if indeed a promotion is won next season. As for a long term strategy for taking the club forward unfortunately there is little to see.

The problem with any post such as this is that it is obviously biased and presented in such a way to try and stir reaction in a way that the writer wants.
Any sensible discussion would include positives as well as negatives and then draw up a conclusion as to why the writer feels as he does. To simply ignore all the positive things that Wael has done means that you have undermined your own credibility as a free thinker.

Yet people that are very pro Wael and the club use the same argument to claim Barton had nothing to do with the relegation in any way. Hypocrisy at its finest. The team was already there, DC was already there. So no, I don’t consider that his success in anyway, more Higgs’s who laid the groundwork for it if we are going to give someone other than DC credit.
