Any ideas on the trialist goal keep?

I know you are tongue in cheek but what do you expect without proven goal scorers We've now got 4 strikers at the club, surely one of them is capable of scoring against Melksham? I thought one did.

Just back from Melksham... was a decent run out for the squad but I wouldn’t read anything into the result. We had very youthful sides out with 2 separate teams for each half. A lot of the development players played and neither team we put out will resemble anything like the team that lines up against Mansfield...
Players who caught the eye - Collins up front - great finish, was unlucky with a couple of other shots and great movement and trickery and interplay. Ryan Jones who we played right mid - really good close control, quick feet, always looking to take on his man (and often beat him) and great quick passing - reminded me a little bit of Bodin in his prime with us. My only concern is he’s small (height and physically) and so will he be able to handle the more physically demanding League 2? Luca Hoole has come on massively. He was good in the tackle and driving forward from right back. He linked up well with Jones and the players around him and the centre half from Stoke. Won every header, muscled out physically bigger opponents, good talking and strong in the tackle. Looks an excellent signing from this showing.
The game really was like a training match and we generally controlled it. One thing I noticed was that we played wide most of the game - always looking to get the ball to the wings rather than going through the middle.
Melksham were a decent side - well drilled and definitely knew what they were doing. The facilities there are excellent too.
All in all a good night and great seeing ‘live’ football again!
Players not there tonight - Finley, Coutts, Grant, Harries, Baldwin, Anssi - all injury / COVID protocols related except Anssi who has been given time off as he’s just back from the Euros..

Getting a chance to listen to him it doesn’t sound as if too many more will be moving on.

Joey seems a lot more relaxed than at the end of the season.
This is a Good Thing.
A stressed Joey Barton never ends well.
Maybe because he has his own staff with him, has cleared out the dead wood, and appears to be running the show as he likes.
Whatever. If he's happy he's more likely to succeed and therefore I'm happy he's happy.

JOEY BARTON THROWS HIS NEW SIGNINGS UNDER A BUS SENSATION
Having previously confirmed Annsi Jaakkola and Sam Nicholson would walk into any L2 side, Joey Barton’s contention that he needs 9 more players consigns the 7 he’s already signed to the bench as squad players at best. In fact the Evil Post can exclusively reveal the adventure is over for one signing already, Nick Anderton uprooted himself out of his northern comfort zone only to blow it on his first outing. Barton was heard to rant “No player of mine scores an own goal ever, not even in preseason against a non league side”. Adios Nick.
Coutts and Finley will be surprised to learn they are surplus to first team duties too. Barton is not buying that their absence is down to Black Death Protocols having learned they failed their Bristol Citizenship tests, however whilst JB reckons they did this deliberately to avoid chucking up their guts on the Bisham Abbey grass during bleep tests, the truth is they found the citizenship tests too hard. A close friend to both who we can only name as Clint, confided to us “When Couttsy signed for Fleetwood all he had to know was the price of a tram return to Blackpool. Scousers are exempted from the Fleetwood test because they’ve passed their own citizenship tests which, if I recall correctly from taking mine, is just one question: If there is a Beemer on a drive in West Kirby how much are you likely to clear from a speculative bit of housebreaking?” Clint continued “The three part Bristol test is so tough, I have no idea how much the average slave cost in 1750, I didn’t know the Patron Saint was Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and how was I to know that Cabot’s Circus is not an entertainment with elephants and clowns?”
The remaining 4 signings Hughes, Taylor, Saunders and Collins will all be looking over their shoulders to see who the gaffer is bringing in as challengers for their place although they do still have an advantage over the other squad members who are still shell shocked having been part of the previous atrocious campaign.
*The above is fictional as was 90% of the Post’s drivel till Sam Frost came on the scene ** The Post would also like to point out that stereotyping is not funny and not clever and would like to apologise to any housebreakers who are not Scouse.

JB: We’re working on a few things and I’m hoping to move four (deals) on in the next week, and the more and more I go through it, we’re probably eight or nine players away from where we want to be.
Is that four leaving or coming in? 😂

Thanks Bluestick, gives a really good insight to the purpose of the game and what the coaches may have learned about the fringe players

If you went to the game then you have the right to criticise, if you didn't then don't bother.
There were lots of positives about the game this evening.
Ryan Jones looks a really exciting find, he ran with the ball, took on and beat multiple players and didn't look like being easy to tackle. I predict he'll play at the top level one day.
Hughes and Anderton looked like the solid no nonsense defenders we've been missing. The Melksham goal was the only exception, but once they build up an understanding, they'll be fine.
In the first half especially we pressed and were always looking to win back possession.
Hanlan looked back to the player we thought we had at the beginning of last season, I'd play him wide of a front 3, but he'll score goals at league 2 level.
Melksham played really well, and made some great blocks and tackles which restricted our goal scoring. Their goalkeeper was really good to. They never looked like scoring themselves though.
The first pre season game is never about winning, just looking at what players have to offer following the close season break.
Lots to look forward to this season.

Very versatile too...can play anywhere down the left side, on the right as part of a front 3 and in the youth team at Clevedon Town and Weston he forged a reputation as a player with an eye for a goal/assist as an attacking midfielder/number 10. Needs to work on building himself up a bit, but once he fills out he should hopefully push for a first team place.
