It never fails to annoy me when people (not just Barton) try to use 'turning the Titanic' as an analogy for a hard task ahead. The Titanic ended in total disaster. It never got turned, it sank and became the most famous sinking ship in history. He actually says “Turn the tide around” . . . May have said that as well, but he definitely says Titanic at 2:44. Although stopping the tide might be an even greater achievement. Unless he is Moses?

I have to say, I’m not too bothered by the result. I think there’s a good team in there and we’re in desperate need of Pitman, our players back from injury and another striker. I feel confident that this team will come together. However, I must say that I am not happy with the fitness levels. Barton not only told us, but promised us that fitness would not be an issue under him. Yet too many players were clearly exhausted yesterday. Some I can forgive such as Finlay, but Harries? Barton's family issues seem to date back to June, so with him being embroiled in that, he probably was not fully engaged with his job and Hill possibly regretting being at BRFC - resulting in an Ill-prepared pre season. Quite ironic after Barton's criticism of Garner's pre season. Barton, understandably looked downbeat in his interview post Stevenage fixture, has too many issues in his life to manage BRFC. We are in a precarious position with a promise of jam tomorrow and we may be forced to employ a new Manager by December so why wait? What "family issues" all we know is that he allegedly had a bust up with his wife after they allegedly both drank too much leading to the police being called, then it seems the following day they resolved their issues but the police/CPS wouldn't let the case be dropped, I can't see that would have affected his whole summer. We've no idea what's gone on with Hill, whether it's something which has been dragging on all summer or just blown up in the last week or so. Unlike Barton I'd imagine the club can function without Hill being around anyway. Although we do have our fair share of manager's family "issues", Garner with his child being seriously ill, GC wanting to move back to his family, now Barton and Hill with their own issues. As far as why wait, I guess Wael backing Barton to the tune of £2m+ will encourage him to wait a few more games, although after Tuesday, Exeter, Barrow and Cheltenham hardly look winnable games.

It was King Canute who tried to turn back the tide. I imagine there are plenty of people on here who definitely see Barton as a bit of a Canute . . .

joey stop beating yourself up after todays performance you will get it right its not a sprint its a marathon or is it a snickers! time will tell At what point do you think Barton should take some responsibility for the mess we are in. Agreed we may be better, or at least I hope we will be better when players return and reach match fitness. However nothing is really making me think it will. The constant slagging off and humiliating players in public will obviously have an effect in the changing room I would imagine. He really does need to be a lot more respectful to the players in the press for me. He also as far as I can remember yet to take any responsibility for any of the losses we have had since taking charge.

Steve how can we ever play a high pressing game with Pitman as CF? When Swindon fans suggest he just stands around waiting for the ball?Should fit in well then

Possibly the young lad who did his cruciate. Forget his name something like seal is it? I was sat near it was young Sam Heal. That sounds about right , didn't get much of a look at the player as i was trying to avoid his injured leg. Hopefully Pitman won't be out for to long, as Saunders just was not in it on Saturday, he certainly needs players around him to create chances, as he doesn't appear to be a very creative player himself.

Any idea why that maybe the case ffs its not rocket science The manager is there to give the players confidence and form a team, presume wrong manager and can we please find another cheaper chancher than we have got now. We cant wait, as he says until we click together as we will be back in the national league. UTG.

King Canute Moses arranged with God to part the Red Sea. Now if Joey could do that in Bristol it would be some achievement, since we're on the verge of getting drowned by that lot.

Is it possible to discuss the game without calling for the manager's head every week? It shouldn't be any real surprise that there are calls. Any manager who has stats like this: managed 21 games, won 3, drew 2 and lost 16, scoring 14 and conceded 30 and not won in the last 10 games while getting new club records of 8 defeats in a row and not scored a home goal in 484 minutes and during this time taking a team 19th in L1 down to 23rd in L2...... will get calls from fans for their head, especially when there are actually no signs of improvement. Calls for any managers head with those stats is extremely understandable. Then add on top of this the fact that the manager bemoaned the lack of striker options when he came to the club but has failed to rectify this problem. Football clubs aren't run by statistics though are they? I don't there's a manager around who would've done better with the imbalanced squad we had last season. We have brought a few strikers, but they're injured, so same old I'm afraid. He's also actively trying to sign another no 9 at the moment, so you can see he's trying to solve that problem.

Is it possible to discuss the game without calling for the manager's head every week? If you lot were in charge we'd have a new one every home game and we'd be playing Downs League. I was surprised Finley went off, but I can only assume that he's not fully match fit yet. I would've replaced Hargreaves who I thought struggled a bit today. We lacked a pattern of play, but that'll come with game time once the players gel. I saw a lot to be optimistic about this afternoon. Especially once Pitman is fit. UTG Please list it? (the lot you are optimistic about) If Pitman had been fit and played instead of Saunders, how would it have been better? Saunders has far more energy than Pitman but still didn't get a look in, so how would have Pitman? For Pitman to be effective we will need create chances from midfield and wide which we just have not done so far this season If you saw the game this evening, that would be my justification for saying what I did about optimism. I thought we showed in the first half that we have the players to scrap and battle to get the ball back, and enough strength and flair to cause the opposition a few problems. We have plenty of hard work to do, but I think these players can get us promoted, and they don't look like rolling over like the team did last season.

Yes I did go tonight and have come home in the best mood I have been in in weeks. It feels so great to see the team win and to play entertaining football too (in the 1st half). So tonight I am full of optimism as well. Tomorrow I will will be a little cautious about the result because I do think Oldham will be near the bottom in May and we will face much stiffer challenges but for tonight I am with you!
