One of the, as yet largely unappreciated, consequences of the war is the effect on food supplies. We're already seeing the impact,I saw a news report a day or so ago that the Russians are stealing the grain,it's very frustrating and although it's risky we must call their bluff and escort ships,we can't allow one despot to hold the world to ransom.

I think we, the west, have to. But we must be prepared for open conflict and if so, be prepared to win. Are we?

There are many countries that rely on Ukrainian grain exports.

So people will go hungry/ starve , migrants will wash up on the shores of Europe and Nigel & co will be out with their binoculars again . Winning !

India, as a consequence, banned all grain exports, which just exacerbates the issue.

But if we break the Black Sea blockade then we will be in open conflict with Russia. Are we prepared for that?

There is a problem with the Montreaux Convention though, Turkey has declared the situation in Ukraine as a war and has closed warship access to only those ships registered in the Black Sea. If they allow others through then the have to let Russian vessels too. Turkey is already trying to get something in return for their agreement for Finland and Sweden to join Nato.

Over 100 days into what many thought had been intended to be a quick 3 day coup.
Looks like Russia will solidify areas in the east but at huge cost. They also lost another general recently.

"A shopping centre with over 1,000 civilians inside has been hit by a missile strike in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said. "The mall is on fire, firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire, the number of victims is impossible to imagine," said the country's leader on Telegram. Footage on social media showed a large number of people stood outside as a huge blaze raged inside the building and dark smoke billowed into the sky. The city's mayor Vitaliy Meletskiy said the strike on the "very crowded" structure had caused deaths and injuries, but gave no figures." news.sky.com/story/ukraine-war-missile-strike-on-shopping-centre-with-over-1-000-people-inside-in-city-of-kremenchuk-zelenskyy-says-12641299
