Decent signing, really pleased we have addressed the Finlay issue as we are really hampered when he doesn't play. Welcome to the gas Elliot.

Could easily have gone on loan to higher division it appears, looks like the Barton factor came into play here with the coaching team at Magpies (Ameobi /Given) thinking Joey will progress him. An interesting signing and could be exciting. Welcome Elliot and good luck. We've no real idea why he choose Rovers, it could be down to the fact JB promised him game time whereas L1/Championship clubs couldn't make similar promises. It'll be interesting to see if he can cope with the physical side of the game when he makes his debut.

The only negative for me about this signing is the lad’s surname. I get confused enough between Anderson and Anderton … and now there’s another Anderson in the mix!

Perhaps we should follow the South Americans and just refer to the Andersons as "Harry" and "Elliott" to avoid any confusion?

What sort of midfielder is he ? “A mini Ross Barkley” was one of the quotes from their fans I prefer "Grealish but with more flair"! So what's JB's plan, use him as a sub for Evans late on in games, or push Evans into Finley's position when he's out, as he doesn't look like an obvious candidate for Finley's role in the team.

Evans is a more attacking midfield player and we are under utilising him by dragging him back

Perhaps we should follow the South Americans and just refer to the Andersons as "Harry" and "Elliott" to avoid any confusion? No doubt they'll just have initials added to shirts. A few players in other leagues have first names or even nicknames on shirts. No doubt that'll be decided by some faceless board. I'd quite like to see the whole squad with nicknames on shirts

ELLIOT ANDERSON Born 6.11.2002 Whitley Bay M 5’ 10”; 9 st 13 lbs Career: Wallsend Boys’ Club; 2011 Newcastle United (professional, 6.11.20) [0+1,0]; 31.1.22 Bristol Rovers (loan). In signing creative, attacking midfielder Elliot Anderson on loan on Transfer Deadline Day, Rovers’ manager Joey Barton attempted to offer the side greater options as Rovers pushed for a League Two play-off place. Anderson, a Newcastle journalist declared, “stands out like a Belisha beacon of hope at a time when the Newcastle landscape is as dark as a mineshaft at midnight” and he arrived in Bristol despite interest from Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday. The son of Iain Anderson, whose football career had taken in several senior non-league sides in the North-East, and Helen Allen, the daughter of Geoff and Katie Allen, he could also claim Scottish ancestry through his paternal grandmother. This had enabled him to represent Scotland once at Under-16 level, three times at Under-17 and twice at Under-18; lured away to play for England’s Under-19 side in a 6-1 victory over Arsenal Under-23 in March 2021, he had subsequently been selected for the Scottish Under-21 squad in November 2021. His maternal grandfather, Geoff Allen, had been Man of the Match in Newcastle United’s first European Fairs Cup-tie, a 4-0 victory over Feyenoord in September 1968 and was delighted to see his grandson following in his footsteps. Having scored six goals for Newcastle’s Premier League 2 side in 2019-20 and three more in 2020-21, Anderson broke into their first team in January 2021. He had first appeared in the Football League Trophy away to Macclesfield Town in September 2019, his three goals in 6(+1) games including two first-half strikes in a 3-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in November 2020. In the space of a few days in January 2021 he played twice against Arsenal, appearing in the final nine minutes plus extra-time in a 2-0 FA Cup defeat and the last three minutes of a 3-0 Premier League loss, replacing Miguel Almirón on both occasions. These appearances enabled him to play against the likes of Granit Xhaka, David Luiz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, not to mention the English international paring of Bukayo Sako and Emile Smith Rowe such that, despite his tender years, he arrived at The Mem with significant experience. Wonder how much game time he’ll actually get ? Can see him getting limited time if I’m honest

What sort of midfielder is he ? Creative with an eye for goal. Looks VERY promising. Strong, skillful, good range of passing to unlock defences and an eye for goal based on this evidence. Seems to allow himself the extra time on the ball that the best creative players can.
I just wonder if he is too similar to Anthony Evans?
It may be that he is competing with Nicholson and Thomas for game time, rather than Evans or Finley.
