It only shows what a massive club we could be Bristol, as one of the largest cities in the UK, I'm convinced if we had like every other large city seems to have, a perennial Premiership team (I'm speaking only for the Rovers here) we'd pack any size stadium. How many coaches leave Bristol every week full with fans with season tickets to go and watch Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City et al? I'm sure we've all got friends that do. They may be called glory hunters, but so am I, and I'm 100% Gas and only Gas, I just have to be a little more patient. UTG! Spent a weekend in Manchester and was amazed at the number of their fans(United) were on the train back to the west country. Kinda of sad I thought.

Sincere apologies warehamgas but i quoted you but it was a rant, not directed at your but at the people who seem tom wish ill upon BG. IF they have to blame someone then start at the top. Again,my apologies and yes i thunk i am drinker, after a good while of enforced abstinence. I just don’t understand the antipathy toward BG I DO stand by what i have written but not directed at you pre se Thank you for the apology. Be careful with the drink and the meds!! Hope your Saturday is ok! UTG! UTG! You know i always apologise when i duck up. I just made a mistake in quoting you as i had a gut full of the hate is all. It’s like people are blaming our entire lower leagues placement at his feet. I would understand if we were taking of Senior Higgs tenure. Thanks for taking notice as you do have my details if you see me go weird again. Thanks for the understanding

Both teams have now sold 16,500ish tickets. A crowd of 40k anticipated. That really is crap. To think of the NL final and many of our fans were either away or unable or unwilling to attend. I will always watch out for Grimsby due to that FISH

Hmm, yes probably. PVs average attendances are 5k for the last 15 years. Stoke on Trent has a Pop of 250k with Stoke City taking most of the attention obviously-similar to our situation. Stoke also sits bang in the middle of Manchester/Liverpool and Birmingham so there is genuine pressure on Port Vale to attract youth. We don't have that issue on a geographical front but we certainly have a huge number of people with 2nd teams here. I also wonder if we would take as many fans as we have in the past? Our fan base is ageing compared to city. You sure about that? In both cases, when the teams are successful they will attract more younger followers - as evidenced by the uptake in families and children attending at The Mem in the latter part of the season. As far as I'm aware there has ever been a survey showing the percentage of support across various age groups at both Bristol clubs and I've always felt this statement is unverifiable and is generally used by anti board posters. Not saying that's you, but let's at least have genuine proof! Obviously, numbers-wise, City have more younger followers, but percentage wise - I doubt it. I have no proof and I've never seen a survey either. That being said I am 100% certain that our fanbase will be older over a mean average than theirs. Only wishful thinking would suggest otherwise imo. They have huge schemes compared to us in their foundation, Academy, community trust. Their ST sales are what, 3 times ours so you can immediately extrapolate that to a larger number of accompanying kids. You only need to look around at events in Bristol to see way more robins on unicycles than camp pirates. It's nobodies fault and nobody should blame the board over it. It's just that city have been better than us with more supporters for the last 3 decades. They have more money to market with. Plus kids follow relative success so it's an easy choice for the floaters.

Interesting comment again on our ‘ageing’ fan base. What is this based on? Genuinely have no idea but would be interested in the facts behind this as it is often stated. Perhaps someone at the club could drill into the ST data? Not conclusive but would offer insight. I doubt our marketing girl does that tbh?

Our fan base is ageing compared to city. Hi Simon, up until this season i would have agreed with, i totality BUT i have noticed many more young people attracted to the mem and have, myself, directed a couple of horfield youngsters ( STUDENTS) who said they felt they wanted to come as the noise coming from the mem had them interested, i probably helped one as we were playing Bradford and he had one of the Spanish clubs scarves, this had a lot of Bradford red in it, i took him to the cash counter and got him in. The next home game i bumped into him but with 6 opthers and he was so excited. If you look at the photos, taken at games now, it paints a hope filled picture. I think it could be the love of the underdog, that is prevalent here but it’s nice to see whatever the circumstance. UTG This is all positive stuff Jules. To be clear, I would like Rovers to have a younger average fanbase and want the club yo do everything it can to attract younger supporters. It obviously safeguards our future somewhat.. But, if I had to gamble, I would bet on city to have the more youthful set of supporters.

To think what we took to every Wembley appearance and broke records. We did have a fair few of the red persuasion turn up as well, suppose it goes to show how much we need representation, at top level Well, PV averaged around 5k this year and Mansfield 4k. So I'd say their ticket sales as a percentage are roughly the same as what ours would be from that stat? 3-4 times the home average.

Dropping back to something mentioned a few pages ago RE: Our ageing fanbase. Perhaps we have covid season to thank for it but 2021/22 absolutely smashed that theory right out of the park.
I’m mid 30’s myself but have never seen so many people a lot younger than myself and my mates at Rovers matches, home and away. It was brilliant to see.
Children with their parents, pre teens, late teens, guys and girls in their 20’s. People of the Rovers future. Long May they stick around and enjoy the ride!

When the were in the previous champions league final, driving through central Bristol was really quite embarrassing, for me in any case I was asked yesterday if I was going to watch THE FOOTBALL today. I replied that I wasn’t sure but if I did I’d probably be cheering for VALE. There was a look of utter confusion on their face, like I clearly hadn’t understood THE QUESTION!

Guys does it feel a little strange we aren’t making our way to Wembley now - that would have been beyond our wildest dreams not so long ago. Instead we bask in the sunshine not caring who wins really and hoping for a Real Madrid victory

Instead we bask in the sunshine not caring who wins really and hoping for a Real Madrid victory I guess Real Madrid are the team our main local rivals ‘Learpaul’ are playing today? If so, yes I hope they win too, otherwise there will be even more insufferable glory hunting bells polluting our city, and the rest of the country.

Absolutely cracking game this! One legged play off games are the way! Yeah, I agree. Watching most of the first legs of EFL playoff Semis, they’ve all been cagey and tight. Whereas the second legs and the National League games have been played with a much higher intensity and urgency.
