FFS guys lighten up it isn’t even June yet. The lads are on holiday celebrating a fantastic promotion. The form we’ve had in L2 this year we would hold our own in L1 no problem. This squad is above the level of L2 - that’s how we managed to achieve promotion given our position at the turn of the year. Plenty of transfer activity to come, players to sign contract extensions. For the loans we won’t get back or sign on a permanent, there will be new players. For those not good enough at L2 they’ll be moved on and L1 level players will come in In Joey we trust. Some big Clubs in Lg1 chap. Perhaps. But some of them have been perpetually underperforming for years and there’s some small clubs too - Burton, Fleetwood, and now Forest Green. Plus arguably teams like Cheltenham too. This is all irrelevant anyway if your club isn’t well managed both from a footballing and commercial perspective. Whilst we’re arguably a big league 2 club we’re probably at our level in L1.

Your expectation? Bear in mind the squad and therefore the form, is affected by the players who have left. Put it on page 1. Pretty sure I said something along the lines that it depends on how you define expectation as there’s a few interpretations of ‘expectations’. I think we will be somewhere between playoff battlers and lower mid table. I don’t think we’ll be fighting relegation. We didn’t when we went up last and our squad is arguably better than it was back then. Gorringe and Barton are both on record that they don’t intend to finish at 1 promotion so I have faith we’ll be alright next season.

I'm going to stick my neck out and predict we will be near the top end of League 1 next year. This squad is better than the one DC put together imo and had it not been for that lot down the road poaching Taylor in January we could very well of gone on to get 3 successive promotions. Momentum is a real factor. Bartons recruitment for League 2 was brilliant, plus his connections and pulling power to be able to bring a player of the calibre of the Geordie Maradona to that level was a masterstroke. If he can do that in League 2, then he can surely do that for League 1 as well. I have full faith in him to do it. I believe a top 6 finish is certainly doable next year. Yes, I think the squad we ended the season is better. But what makes it better is Elliot A, Evans, Taylor, Connolly and the players that belong to us. Lose those 4 loans and we need to do some important recruitment. So it’s really difficult to predict at this stage. Get those loans back and we’ll be fine. Elliot A won’t be back I don’t think but get the others and we’ll be fine. Mid July and we should have a clearer picture over what our squad will look like. I agree with much of what you said but tbh it’s too early to call. I do think though that JB will recruit better than we have in the recent past, so I am cautiously optimistic. UTG!

Don’t forget that JB has already had a couple of seasons managing in League 1 and made the playoffs. Given that he didn’t have any prior knowledge of League 2 I don’t think he did too badly this year.😉 I think he definitely knows what it takes to succeed in League 1 and is pragmatic enough to know that he is going to have to do it with slightly different personnel. So, I’m not worried who is going to be in the team, I’m just intrigued.

I think we will be impressed with our new additions, he has said before we will need different quality players for different leagues, the highlight for me is how he has created a close knit group, they seem to all get on and have a great work ethic and comalraldary.

For the record I don't think that Joey Barton will leave Bristol Rovers despite alternative interest from other club(s)
I believe he truly gets us' has a good relationship with Wael and sees us as a project unfinished.
I will be dissapointed to not see JB in the dug-out on 30th July (my birthday coincidentally)

I’m going to wait to hear what Joey thinks If he says we are going to get promoted then we will. He’s not been wrong yet. UTG Uh oh! How about when he said we would not get relegated?

I admire your faith, but Joey has already said he wants to go on to bigger and better things. If the right chance came, I think he'd jump at it, because good second chances rarely come along. And good luck to him if he did. I'd do the same. He has a family to care for and support as best he can. We are not anything special to him or anyone else in football, and although I think he's found a way to make it click here and gets on with Wael, we are going to be a modest sized club for some years yet. If he's ambitious, those ambitions won't be realised here until we have a new stadium, and that's years away. I think some gasheads have difficulty in seeing us as anything other than a special club and a sleeping giant. We're not.

Massively dependent on what happens in pre-season with transfers/contracts etc but I think after being promoted from League 2 then consolidation is a pretty realistic goal. Would love to be aiming higher (mid-table/playoffs) but I think that would be a lot to ask first time round in League 1 again.

I’ll have a bet now that we finish higher than any other promoted team . Think this team with a few decent additions is more than capable of pushing for a playoff place. I took this bet, but could you clarify the wording please?

I took this bet, but could you clarify the wording please? Season isn’t over yet . Playoffs obvs ain’t happening but we didn’t sign the players I was hoping . Not bad though considering first season back up . 5 points behind Exeter with 2 games in hand 🤞

Either above all of the sides(like you've just confirmed), or any. Yes, we can still finish top of the pile for sure. Hopefully we finish strongly for positivity factor in the summer.

I'll take that bet. 3 other teams against us.. I think that all sides in the POs plus Exeter are good teams for lg1. FGR are a bit of a wildcard imo. Our squad will need amendments in key areas plus we've lost the star boy. What's the stake? £10 to a charity of either persons choice www.rock2recovery.co.uk/our-story/give-helpCheers.
