Appreciate there is a lot of water to go under the bridge before the season starts in terms of keeping existing players and replacing those that will depart adequately.
Looking at League one there will be some really big teams in the mix with big budgets. However we know that's not a guarantee for success, similar (smaller) teams like Wycombe & Rotherham aswell and previously promoted Bolton and Cheltenham have done ok.
So my question is not what do you think will happen but what would you accept in our season back in L1?

I fully expect us with the current squad (less Loans) to do well but not pushing for play offs. If we can get some of the loans back plus get some more quality in the house, then play offs are a possibility

I'd take a mid-table finish.

It’s dependent on a couple of things. Firstly, the momentum is with the manager and the team. If Barton leaves we will have to adjust expectations down because that’s only natural. It would seem likely we wouldn’t be able to keep some of the players I suspect we will keep if he stays. If he stays and keeps some of those key elements from this season then I would expect us to challenge for the play offs but if he goes I’d be happy just to establish ourselves back in league 1. Mid table or even a bit lower would be respectable.

What do I accept? Consolidation.
What am I expecting (target) Mid table.
What am I expecting (belief in Joey's squad) Punching for the playoffs.
What do I hope we get? Promoted again. Playoffs will do this time.
These days you always have a multitude of high spending ex premier league clubs who we won't have a hope of matching budget wise until we evolve as a club and sort ourselves out with a new ground. Therefore and with only 2 positions available for autos I think the league and/or autos are fanciful even for an established L1 side with decent investment.
Given the history over the last two decades making the playoffs would be a massive achievement even if we don't win them.
But let's remember we've just been promoted out of L2 and whilst we have a strong squad and momentum is on our side doing it at first attempt is a huge ask. So let's accept it might not be a successful season next year and not be too disappointed if that happens, but hope for the best and expect a good season at a level above where we've been over the last 2 years.

This place is amusing. Yes there is a lot of water to go under the bridge but there is also a lot we already know.
Both CBs have gone. Both DCMs haven't got legs. Our strikers are either past it or inexperienced. We came 3rd in Div4. Our star player has gone. It is a step up in levels.
As things stand, we get relegated without a whimper. It all depends on recruitment and belief. I think we are going to need to keep our better players and improve in CM and up front, plus recruit 3 CBs. JB will need to stay and generate that belief amongst the club and fanbase for a tough year. Consolidation in mid table hopefully, but I know that will be unacceptable for many who expect boom or bust.

If we can keep away from the bottom four all season and have a few decent away days mixed with a good home record I'll be happy, then build on that the following season.

For anyone else scratching their head BCD = Behind closed doors I will just have to sneak in the backdoor. Surprised at that, hardly likely to have trouble at a friendly surely. Just realised TBC is to be confirmed.

I’ll have a bet now that we finish higher than any other promoted team . Think this team with a few decent additions is more than capable of pushing for a playoff place.

I know it’s slightly different. But Saints had back to back from L1 to the Prem under Adkins.
Not for one moment am I comparing budget or prev history with them at the time, however they achieved it with key players in key positions, a stable manager that took them all the way.
Probably most importantly a Chairman with a cast iron belief in the objective and what needed to be done in Nicola Cortese.
Not to be to over dramatic, but I don’t think we are a million miles from that blueprint, if we keep the current structure in place. It can be done, the great Rickie don’t forget left Rovers for the Saints in 2009 in the same league and proved one of the reasons for the Saints rise to the Prem.
One player for a million, caused chaos in the league at the time for the Saints, that on record said the budget we have to spend is dependant on the League we are in………
I convinced with our structure it is possible, just depends on the next few weeks decisions and commitments by the owner Manager a couple of key players why the hell we can’t do the same.
Before anyone talks about money and how football is different now, just look at Brentford compared to Everton this season.
It can still be done UTG

Be happy with top half finish, but if our recruitment is good maybe might we might be more formidable.
If Wyscum can make the play offs you never know.
I think james Connolly will stay, if we could get Elliot back even until January, that would be fantastic.

I'll take that bet. 3 other teams against us.. I think that all sides in the POs plus Exeter are good teams for lg1. FGR are a bit of a wildcard imo. Our squad will need amendments in key areas plus we've lost the star boy. What's the stake?

I'm going to stick my neck out and predict we will be near the top end of League 1 next year.
This squad is better than the one DC put together imo and had it not been for that lot down the road poaching Taylor in January we could very well of gone on to get 3 successive promotions.
Momentum is a real factor.
Bartons recruitment for League 2 was brilliant, plus his connections and pulling power to be able to bring a player of the calibre of the Geordie Maradona to that level was a masterstroke.
If he can do that in League 2, then he can surely do that for League 1 as well.
I have full faith in him to do it.
I believe a top 6 finish is certainly doable next year.

We were the best team in the Division come the end, no doubt about that.
