Marquis is almost 2 years younger than Marty Taylor,I’m sure most wouldn’t complain if we got him back.

Sorry to be slightly negative, but anyone else thinking "not really heard of him, and he's 31? Please don't let him be another pay packet Pittman". Mate that beer at Frenchay towers must be strong 🍺🍺😂 he s very well known Pompey paid 1.8 million for him, he s not Bradley Goldberg or Alex wall.😂😂 Who?

Norwood had never played in L1 until he joined Ipswich 3 years ago; he was nearly 29 then.
In fact, he's played most of his career in non-league. He was nearly 28 when he made his first appearance in L2 with Tranmere in 2018.
Marquis made his first appearance in L1 in 2009 and made 46 appearances over the next 3 seasons in the Championship. Since then he's had abou 3 seasons in L2 and 6 in L1, consistently making 40+ appearances. On paper at least, he looks the better bet.

I imagine most neutral fans of English football will see this as quite a coup for us.

Put it this way I think he’s an upgrade on Clarke and Pitman and if for whatever reason it doesn’t work I have faith JB will make a decision and move him on in Jan. let’s all just hope he’ll have 20 goals under him this season because it’s certainly a possibility

I think he'll do well in our team. Seems to fit in a couple of formations that I expect to start the season with. Imagine he might not always last the 90, with Loft and options to move to Collins up front alone if needed, but should score and assist plenty! Pompey had too much riding on him, £2m with a "big club" attitude, so was expected to recreate his Donny form in a poorer team

Sorry to be slightly negative, but anyone else thinking "not really heard of him, and he's 31? Please don't let him be another pay packet Pittman". Come on this is surely a joke, he's played against us; no need to be negative, he holds the ball up, very strong, and scores goals.

Hes not a striker who holds the ball up pal, he's more of someone who will move around in the box and feeds off service having seen his highlights and read about what he is as a player on the Evil Post

Oh right it sounds like you've seen more of him than me, as I said i've only had a look at some brief highlights and the games he'd played against us, and that was what I thought of him. Then this morning I read an article about his weaknesses/strengths. Either way let's hope he can bang the goals in for us

Yes, the Donny forum say he’s strong and holds the ball up well, he also closes down defenders. They go on about him not being the best passer of a ball and he can do a bit of JCHs throwing his arms in the air when the ball doesn’t get to him. But overall they would have liked him back, or most of them would. It’s a forum, a bit like here. 😉 UTG!

I think this is the key - from what I can tell he's the "fox in the box" we've been waiting for since Trolls! 😂 Collins didn't spend much of his time in the box last season for a striker - whereas Marquis hangs around in that area hunting for tap ins. Spot on what we need imo if we continue to create chances like that season. ... But to do that, we still need 1-2 attacking players imo. 1 winger (happy with a loan, or LT), 1 ball carrying CM (McCormick the dream). I think Collins will be used in that way more this season.

He’s as far from Pitman, L.Clarke etc. as you can get!

Following the signing of Marquis I'd highly recommend watching WeAreTheGas's video focusing on Aaron Collins role in the side: It actually goes some way to explaining why a player that has scored most of his goals from inside the box would be one on our radar.

Can we just clarify something? Do you pronounce his name as “Mark-wiss” or “Mar-kee”?
