Last season proved we are a set up that gets stronger, so for this ‘bang average’ team to be 11th in January I think is superb, in fact a good few places higher than most of us expected. You may think we’re not good enough, but I’m confident we will make a charge for the playoffs, whether we make it of course is another thing, but this group of players and coaching set up have the skill, fight, determination and sheer effort to make it a possibility imo. Can’t string two halves of football together Before the game, my son said he'd love to ask JB why we're always crap in the first half and good in the second. Strangely, it was the other way round yesterday. I guess it's like a lot of things which are being built/developed, it can take a while for it all to work well on a consistent basis. Barton's still learning his trade, and has a team of mainly young players.

Quite right Tilly If you’d shown me a picture of the current table after 10 games I’d said you were on something We are in a good place Like you say Barton is learning all the time and I hope he continues to play attacking progressive football We will of course come unstuck every now and again but we go into every game believing we can score and cause others problems Most of the time our defence are under 22 years old, if we can keep faith and trust the coaching team I think the future is bright A few tweaks in Jan and we could trouble that top 6 Only 4 points off 5th UTG

The step up to Lg1 and be holding our own says a lot.

Both offside calls were tight. I actually think he got both correct looking at the footage from the Cheltenham fan. Looks like the Cheltenham defender's left foot plays Josh on. It's a good angle but not perfect so can't say for sure. Without VAR I think the lino was right to give the benefit of the doubt to the striker. In the first half, I thought we played pretty well. Certainly controlled the game with 72% possession, scored 2 good goals, created some other decent chances, and had another goal narrowly ruled out for offside. I'm not sure whether it was down to the goal or the changes Cheltenham made but the second half was a painful watch. From the moment Connolly gifted them a goal back we stopped playing. The entire second half was just rushed clearances and wave after wave of Cheltenham attacks. Luckily they're not a free-scoring side and we managed to hold on. I wouldn't swap our front 2 for any strikers in L1 but we clearly need strengthening in defence and midfield to give us any chance of sustaining a push for the top 6. In fact, we'll be lucky to finish top half without at least 2 or 3 quality additions. I sense we just panicked at 2-1 plus Cheltenham upped their game sensing blood. Whelan's and Gibbons introduction along with the change of formation to 4 at the back seemed to steady the ship. Just a pity JB didn't do similar v Exeter.

If Marquis had put his chance away to make it 4-2 we wouldn't be talking about it. But hey ho, 3 scrappy points yesterday and enjoying being 11th.

I think it is very heartening to see Rovers in the 11th position considering the team has yet to hit its stride. Who knows, with some experienced defenders added a string of wins could be around the corner. Joey's enthusiasm is so infectious it certainly makes one belief in a big way! I feel the club is very fortunate to have a manager with such drive and ambition. It certainly seems Joey cares deeply for the club and Gasheads.

It was very clear to see the difference in the energy levels in midfield between first and 2nd half. A lot is resting on Finleys energy and when that drops we currently struggle. January hopefully might see some new options in that area.
The defence moving up together also lacked at times with one defender lagging behind a little playing Chelt players onside. A more disciplined back line will no doubt reduce our goals against.
Not the best performance by Rovers but did the job and brought the 3 points home.

I think why the players like him is becuase he's upfront and doesn't sugar coat things if you've had a sh1t game he will tell you straight. The only thing I'm not a big fan of, is when he singles out a particular player in public like he did with Belly the whole back 4 where shambles against Exeter

One I’m glad we got out of with 3 points in tact. Other than 2 lovely bits of play for the goals, that was a horror show all over the park. As sloppy as we’ve seen under JB. But ya can’t knock winning when you play poorly! Notice Belshaw was stuck to his 6 yard box for the entire match, not sure wether that was pure fear or direct orders from the gaffer. Great crowd, the predicted awful atmosphere and bar Connelly gifting them a way back into the game, my 2-0 Collins & Coburn shout was smack on😁 Roll on a new ground tick at Cambridge after they get pumped at Hillsborough tomorrow! And pumped they are getting! Good & proper Bring on Saturday🤘🏼UTG

Then, how is the screenshot above that clearly shows onside explained ? Interesting that no Cheltenham defender appealed. You would have expected them all to be up in arms. Especially when he was clearly at least six yards offside !!! (According to their manager🤣).

I don’t know if anyone else on the East Terrace noticed but a bit of mischievous quality from Finley yesterday. He was being marked on one of our throw ins near halfway - he pointed to his markers feet and said “your laces are undone” - the twerp fell for it and Finley gained a yard to receive the ball. Excellent 👏

Watched that goal about 5 times now and I think he’s just on as Collins pushes the ball into his path . The defender is coming out as he passes so in a split second he looks off but I don’t think he was .

When we have the ball there’s no options centrally and that’s why we just go along our defence then to our wing backs and back again…something needs to change with our pattern of play in my opinion as we seem to be too slow and predictable with this and it has goals being conceded through this all over it… Collins dropping back for the ball and starting something seems to be our only hope at the moment JB seems to have been happy with our constant passing across the back line as he highlighted in his presser we made over 400 passes in the first half but only 100 in the second half. I sense we're missing Rossiter big time, as Coutts is half the player JR was before his injury. Not sure if Evans is missing him or just totally off his game. I didn’t think the first half was any different in terms of how we would normally play. It was still the slow tempo and patient play, but the main difference was that we managed to work something with Collins and Coburns magic. I said after one of the recent games that it makes no difference who plays wing back in that system because we just don’t work triangles or patterns of play to get them in behind. The only time we did on the right was a long ball for Anderson who’d made a run behind their left wing back, whilst on the other side we are relying on Sinclair to work some of his magic on his own. Other than that it’s all about trying to release the 2 forwards into the gaps and that’s what made the difference for us in the first half. Barton’s comments after the game do highlight that’s the way he wants to play as he was happy with how many times we’d passed it, and it’s very obvious that’s what he wants to do because even when Cheltenham changed tactics in the second half we still persisted in passing it out, backwards and sideways to our detriment without ever really creating anything and we got penned back and couldn’t get into the game. To me it’s not a negative to look at the stats and say we didn’t make as many passes in the second half, because games change and tactics have to change too. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing to go long and make the opposition turn around too. Certainly the turning point for us was going 4 at the back and bringing Gibbons and Whelan on. It changed things more to our favour and we looked a bit more solid. Personally I prefer us with a traditional 4 because it gives the fullbacks someone in front of them to play off. Think bang average is harsh, JB is absolutely spot on.... Forward line good enough for promotion, defence poor enough for relegation. Personally I think its harder to be a good attacking team than it is to defend, so we've done the hard bit! Oddly I think we struggle against the likes of Cheltenham, Wycombe, Exeter... Because we don't know how to defend a simple ball over the top, we don't pick up second balls either. Lack of pace in midfield and defence. We struggle to defend set pieces, long throws, long balls but are more comfortable against teams that play on the deck. Get that defence sorted and we will upset a few of the bigger sides for sure. UTG I think the reason we struggle at centre half is that none of the centre backs are dominant enough. Which also makes me question how vocal and talkative Belly is in terms of organising whats in front of him when you consider how easy it’s been to play over the top of us through the middle. Plus I also think that constantly playing around with players and formations doesn’t help either from JB. Again I go back to sept and Oct when we went on a run with a fairly settled back 4 and when we lost at derby JB used that to change everything again, which he did after the Exeter game too, it’s like he has a knee jerk reaction to a bad performance or a few mistakes instead of sticking with things.

Kinda shows it all.... sorry for that but it's clearly ONSIDE: 5.13m lino level with play. Amazingly good decision. ![](https://i.ibb.co/tbQZJz9/onside.png) Yes, looks onside to me ![]()

For a goal that was so clearly offside according to the Cheltenham players and manager, i counted at least 7 of their players in the box just after the ball went in, and not one of them appealed. I know most decisions dont get changed but its human nature to show something if you have been wronged
