National Conservativism doesn't sound too good to me, shades of something from history with unfortunate consequences. I presume this guy has forgotten about Boris. He should have a quiet word with Johnson I think 🤔

Good play on word, there. I was thinking it sounds very similar to National Socialism, clearly they have no sense of self awareness.

That’s the worrying thing , that party is now full of absolute Dam nutters , real full on headbangers , racists and loons . what an opposition to have …… and they’ll probably lurch even further to the right in opposition. Not a good state of affairs for the uk , we’ll need a decent opposition.

Hasn’t Badenoch shot Herself in the foot for not ditching those 4000 EU rules which would have been economic suicide ? If ever anything summed up how chuffcing loony this lot are this is it ! ps I did say they wouldn’t do it 😉

This was a terrible deal in the 1990s, Portillo sold off service housing on the cheap and then rented it back. Looks like the Government may be able to retake ownership. "The UK government has won the right to take back control of thousands of military homes worth £8bn after a court ruled that the previous privatisation was a “bad deal” for the government, in a significant blow to the private equity investor Guy Hands. London’s high court ruled on Monday that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has the right to buy back the remaining 38,000 homes, which were bought in 1996 by Annington, a group of companies ultimately controlled by Hands, for £1.7bn. Annington immediately said it planned to appeal against the decision." www.theguardian.com/business/2023/may/15/uk-government-military-homes-guy-hands-annington-property

I suppose it's for the public good, but a whole raft of government lawyers and accountants would have signed off on the original deal, which apparently now was not a fair deal.

Yes and No. It falls under section 5 of the Leasehold Reform Act 1967 so anyone in a similar circumstance could try the same thing (but of course the government has more lawyers than most people to allow them to do it).

"Incentives" 🤔 Very good news though, right on our doorstep too. "A multi-billion pound electric car battery factory looks set to be built in Somerset. The BBC understands the gigafactory for Tata Jaguar Land Rover would be located at the Gravity business park near Bridgwater. It would mean the creation of 9,000 jobs at the site, close to the M5. Talks between the British government and Tata are believed to be at an advanced stage after offers of incentives by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt. West of England Metro Mayor Dan Norris said "swift action is needed to seal the deal" after it was reported in The Times that Somerset faces competition from Europe to be the factory's home. Tata is considering whether to build its battery plant in the UK or Spain, but is said to be looking at settling in the UK after subsidies and financial incentives from the government. Mr Norris said he had previously held face-to-face meetings with Jaguar Land Rover last year." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-65645201

True, but we couldn't do it then as the ruling party was too busy fighting those EU hating, climate change sceptics, UKIP. That went well, Tories ended up fighting each other rather than govern. Party unity trumped national unity. 😶

As the battery in an electric car is a big part of it , without producing our own batteries the uk car industry would be buggered.

May be wishful thinking on my part, I do wonder if Braverman was appointed as a sop to that element and giving her enough rope and all that, to finally silence them. Could be she is a 'casualty' of the local elections. 👍 Hope so but he’s playing a dangerous game if that’s his master plan . And here is Rishi's opportunity. Will he take it?
