Precisely,what was it a £5 billion contract and only a handful of Armoured vehicles delivered. The media go on about waste during COVID but my guess the systemic waste in the MO D far exceeds that but barely a whisper . Yep, £3.5bn given to General Dynamics for a couple of dozen vehicles whose noise and vibration issues are causing injury to its crews and another £2bn to pay. Or Labour delaying ships because the in year budget had no room but adding £2bn to the overall cost. 🙄 |

Now we get retired Major Generals asking for more money which I'm sure they need but I wouldn't trust the Procurement folk with the tuck shop money!! |

It's the sheer scale of the money spunked away over the last 12 years, of OUR money with nothing to show for it and no-one held to task over the responsibility for allowing it, or even encouraging it for their own personal gain that really churns my guts.

There is the money, or at least there has been, but the army in particular has messed up big time, especially in the last 15-20 years. Too many people moving roles and not seeing things through to completion so no ownership, changing specifications rather than off the shelf, the list goes on. Retention of regiments for political reasons and an unclear road map of what they want to achieve hasn't helped either. The army, apart from a few niche areas, is pretty irrelevant even in a European context. They've been poorly served by their very senior officers. Fwiw, the Navy and RAF got themselves in order and remain at the top of their game. Whilst they could do with more, they are capable of things few others are. |

"The Commissioner for Public Appointments has removed himself from the investigation into the appointment of the BBC's chairman after revealing he has met with him "on previous occasions".
William Shawcross confirmed last week that he would be leading the probe into the hiring of Richard Sharp following reports the chairman had helped Boris Johnson secure a loan.
But just seven days later, Mr Shawcross has written to the chair of the digital, culture, media and sport committee, saying he will be handing the case over to an "independent person".
Labour's shadow culture secretary Lucy Powell - who called for the investigation - hit out at the timing of Mr Shawcross' decision, tweeting: "It's taken him a week to realise a conflict of interest, sharing these cosy relationships.
"The truth must come out about this appointment." "

Regardless of the underlying reasons, I cannot think of one single thing that has improved since the Brexit vote and its' management by our Tory leaders. Unless you consider Brexit in itself, regardless of how flawed and bungled it's been, as an improvement.

If the UK is like a mini EU, with open borders, trade, freedom of movement and help for poorer nations, England is like Germany and Scotland is like Greece.

Caught a bit of Politics Live today, Caroline Noakes is in the wrong party. She said that Sunak is holding himself a hostage to fortune over his Channel boat crossing pledge and the comments about withdrawal from the ECHR is just pandering to a few of her colleagues. Also that there is no simple solution but lots of small scale items to reduce.

Yep, double standards and hypocrisy in much of the Yes camp, they'd have less economic freedom than now whichever route they chose - Sterling, Euro or a new currency. I had a similar issue with Nobby and Brexit, he was adamant of staying in Nato which has dictated so much of out defence and security choices. Very analogous imo but was contrary to the argument. |
