He said "1930s Germany". What else could he mean by inference?  The Holocaust was until much later for a start. It's the slow eradication of rights, the 'othering' of human beings and the blaming of a policy failing because of 'the blob' (civil service), "leftie lawyers" and essentially saying that if you are against me you are against the hard working people of this country. Looking for scapegoats when it's the government’s own mistakes. That's where a comparison can be made, if a little clunky and it's probably having an effect of diverting attention away from the actual issues. Don't fall for the headlines as it's making us look away from the real issue which isn't a technical breach of social media guidelines (as per a former BBC DG this morning). Yes, I realised after I'd posted that the Holocaust came in the 1940s. However, the language used in the 1930s led to it. As for headlines - the only publication I read is Private Eye. I wouldn't know about the Mail, Express, et al,other than what the Eye says about them. As for the former BBC DG - I saw it and got the impression that he wasn't too sure. |

So we should continue letting in 40,000 ILLEGAL immigrants into our country every year and rising year by year. Us tax payers are paying for these “intruders” to live a better life than me, im in full time work, paying my way, trying to support my family while another boat full of immigrants, usually a boat full of blokes in there 20’s, no wife or children on board, and usually not running away from war. These people (not all) are here for a free ride, and I have had enough of hearing stories of these people coming to our country and intimidating our people, abusing our laws, and I have to pay for that. When they get to France they are in a safe place, but get nothing. They come here and get everything. Why wouldn’t you make that trip across the channel. We’re all talking about freedom of speech, that’s my view, and so many other peoples view, sadly not many are brave enough to say it, because it’s now a minority view. Gary Lineker is a 2 faced tit. Knows what his contract is, and is constantly pushing his views and making his job untenable. But the publicity the guys getting will line his pocket a bit more. For information and clarity:
I believe the ‘holocaust’ was a German policy developed at the Wannsee Conference in January 1941 when the higher level Nazis, those just below Himmler and Hitler met to develop the policy of exterminating the Jews. It set in train the next 4 years. Hideous. Some of those present and involved in the policy were members of local government and West German politics in the 1960s. Wannsee is a suburb of Berlin.

But, again for clarity, many of these boat people are not facing what the Jews faced, they are people wanting to come here for a better life and to have what we have. Many of them are economic migrants not those facing threats to life. Unfortunately this inept government have failed to distinguish the two and now it’s just a total mess. Look at the figures and you see the migrants coming in these boats are a fraction of the migrants coming here. The whole issue is warped by our right wing press making it an emotional issue which the government has failed to deal with. Again though, it’s linking this episode in our history to what the Jews faced. It’s totally different and beyond comparison. UTG! |

i think that people are confusing two issues here.
Many are trying to debate the immigrant situation but Linekar was not taken off air because of that .
The BBC heirarchy suspended him for speaking out of turn and not following their policy. As has been pointed out - his contract with the BBC does not include an impartiality clause so they should not have taken him off the air. They did so however because of outside pressures brought on them by the Government and that is a far greater danger to the BBC than any tweet that Gary Linekar may have made.
We live in a society where it has never been easier in theory to voice your opinion but the reality is different. " Community " pages on facebook are run by people with political affiliations and this means that people are only being given a version of what is going on. Newspapers do the same thing which is why it is vital that the BBC lives by its own rules and does not bow down to Government pressures . It has to remain impartial.
What the BBC should have done is admit that they did not approve of Linekars comments but stated that he did nothing wrong . It is up to them to then tighten future contracts to stop this reoccuring but in the meantime they stand by their own set of rules instead of knee jerk reactions to someone elses commands.
To me it's a no brainer - boycott until the BBC heirarchy back down and restore the values that are so important to that institution. Ironic that we are owned by a Jordanian and he is the one standing up for what is important !! - an independant British Broadcasting Corporation

Braverman's language in depicting immigrants has horrifying echoes of that time Oldie, I know you can see that the total failure of this government to deal with the issue is at the heart of the problem and the Home Secretary is beyond hope. But the problem has arisen that people feel a genuine concern at some of these economic migrants from all over coming here. They arrive in safe countries but want to come here. The government find a sympathetic press echoing their thoughts and of course this government now is clutching at any straw. But, and you’re right about what the Nazis did I think that was a lifetime away from what’s happening here. This country needs a grown up party that can recognise the problem and deal with it in a competent way so that those in genuine need can come here easily and quickly and those that don’t warrant it can’t. Until that happens the press and others will continue to fight amongst themselves. UTG! ps. We’re straying outside the realms of MOTD!! |
