Aaron will probably be sold during the close season while the club can make a reasonable amount of money for what surely needs to be a substantial rebuild. The club will need seasoned experienced players to compete for a playoff place. Loan players are useful to a certain degree but not an abundance of them! Let's hope Rovers set the pace at the start of next season. UTG.

A guy who was given the captaincy on a temporary basis because a couple of others in front of him were out injured, now has the captaincy taken off him? Wow major non- news, nothing to see here move along please. Aaron back to his best now on Saturday and rip Pompey a new one! UTG! JB made it news? Plus the injured players apparently won't be back tomorrow, so another player will have to be made captain. Apart from JB who actually thinks a captain is significant in the modern game anyway.

I wonder what potential signings make of it all? I'm sure their agents must do due diligence about their prospective new club and for me, getting blamed and shamed in public wouldn't exactly entice me. Maybe Joey after recent games will decide that Aaron will be played in a position that suits him and will enable him to affect games tomorrow and this story will be put to bed? If a player based in the north was given two similar offers, one for a local club or one 100's of miles away working for a time bomb manager who's he going to choose? JB's recent public shaming of Belshaw and Collins has been totally unnecessary.

That’s not the point I’m making Topper, the point is he’s not our regular captain so someone else taking over is not a great surprise really is it? Plus the fact that he’s not played great since he’s been captain makes perfect sense for him to step down.

The reason we lost on Tuesday was down to Coburn missing reasonably easy chances not Collins nor the pitch Do you really think the public shaming of Belshaw and Collins is benefiting Rovers?

Belshaw seems to be playing better now after keepergate. Thomas turned around after his public kick up the arse. You would never get away with it in a normal business setting but sometimes a kick up the arse is what’s needed.

I agree with you Topper, all Barton had to do was call Aaron into the office and have a quite word with him, same with Belshaw. Barton needs to go on a man management course, he opens his mouth before he thinks. Thing is we need to keep our best players if we are to do well in this division, they won't stay if they get publicly slated. We are not one of the biggest clubs in the division and have often struggled to replace out better players like the snake and Bodin. DC could not get the same quality players to replace them . Barton is good at bringing in decent younger players, but because we don't have the money to buy quality experienced players, we have to often rely on fringe players from other clubs that have injury issues. Need to keep hold of collins if we can. can you imagine Gerry Francis or Don Megson publicly slating players, the only two managers to get us in the the 2nd tier., in the last 60 years.

Belshaw seems to be playing better now after keepergate. Thomas turned around after his public kick up the arse. You would never get away with it in a normal business setting but sometimes a kick up the arse is what’s needed. Is that because Belshaw is actually playing better or because the team is playing differently. Earlier in the season we were playing a high line and Belshaw was a 'Sweeper keeper' something Barton bigged up and said this is how we want to play and acknowledged it brought risks. We seem to be not playing as high (or at least Belshaw doesn't appear to be). Maybe Barton and the coaches have had a word and he has adapted his game. Absolutely fine if the case. I am sure the same could have been achieved without the public roasting I maintain, these outburst (at least in part) are done for populist reasons. He knows a number of fans will lap his "telling it straight/ the way it is" schtick up and deflects from the managers own deficiencies/mistakes Collins may have been poor, but I don't think that cost us the game. We surrendered the midfield on Tuesday, but Collins ducked a header and that is now the narrative and not the tactical mistake

Correct decision but to handle it like this in the public domain is just unnecessary

Agents are mainly all about the £££££'s which will come into their own bank accounts.

So if he is dropped. And Finley and hoole are still unavailable, how will he line up? If he goes with 3 or 4 strikers again I will know he’s lost it!

I don't think he'll be dropped, I think JB wanted to shake him up by firing a public shot across the bows. Maybe Belly will get the armband.

Great supporter of Aaron, but have to say in the last few weeks it looks suspiciously like either his agent has got into his head or a hand shake has been made on a move in the summer, its not about what you have done its more about what your doing, he hasn't been up to scratch lately and needs a kick up the backside as we are not safe yet! Perhaps there is no conspiracy and it’s a simple case of a sportsman being out of form which happens to every sportsman at some time? Probably not helped by being played in positions he’s not ideally suited to in recent weeks - I’m not really sure where he was playing on Tuesday to be honest ! Fair point Eric

Players expect praise when things are going well, however the flip side also applies. In addition as our admission money pays for players salary then it is not out of order for us to see comments by the manager in the public domain.

In addition as our admission money pays for players salary then it is not out of order for us to see comments by the manager in the public domain. The flip side of praising players who are doing well isn't necessarily slagging them off when their form dips. There are other approaches, like motivation, consideration, development and empathy. It can be done.
