Sorry but no sympathy for Taunton as they pool many of their support from the dark side... Ok then, apart from you, got to feel sympathy for them. 🤔 UTG!

Luke Russe and Danny Greenslade playing for Bath. I remember some fans calling for them and the likes of Hargreaves, Walker, Tomlinson and Mehew to be getting runs of games in our first team - goes to show they were never good enough as surely at least one would have come back into the EFL !! Debatable IMHO, they showed up well in previous pre season games and didn't look out of place, could be argued that if you are playing with better players then you will also look better and be able to play better, as i said all a matter of opinions, just a shame none of our youngsters seem to get a chance , the exception was Hoole who strangely enough i did not pick out as one to make it! just goes to show! Unfortunately it’s a lot to do with the first team manager at that particular moment in time. At our level get a so called experienced player on loan or for a few grand. Most won’t risk a youngster unlike the Prem or Camp that can afford to try a few out as they have the personnel around them. Double edge sword, loads of quality that don’t get a chance to shine, others that clearly aren’t good enough but get chance after chance. Not the players fault, it’s the quality of the coaching at our level, coupled with the finance and management willingness to try. Self fulfilling prophecy, and has been for a long time unfortunately.

Sad if Taunton Town do not survive Never understood why with a population of c120,000 that they struggle to get more than a few hundred each game No league clubs nearby, excluding Yeovil’s brief in the EFL, no other sports during the football season Hopefully the fans together with local residents and businesses can help the club survive and prosper

Yes it is sad but the crowds have increased significantly over the past 3/4 seasons, certainly beyond a few hundred. But the chairman, Kevin Sturmey has carried out most roles in the club and I don’t know what support he’s getting now. And of course the NLS is a league with some much bigger clubs in it. They’ve competed well but obviously things have stepped up with the involvement of HMRC. And to answer you NS blue about a sizeable town, Taunton is and always has been a cricket town even in winter where the interest is cricket. I suspect people in Taunton are talking more about the Somerset captaincy / Tom Abell / Lewis Gregory. At least the friends I talk to regularly are talking about cricket not Taunton Town. Sad perhaps but true.
And no club can just shrug off losing the players they have over the past week.
Difficult and likely to get harder over the next few weeks. Good luck to them.
UTG!

Yes, seems that way.
I remember sitting in in the clubhouse at Hayden Road after I had played for Rushden Town in the very late 80's and a guy walked in (smallish guy but with some presence). The clubhouse at Hayden Road was always not very well lit. After a couple of gulps of orange juice, I then understood who it was...... the main man of the area...... Mr Max (Doctor Martens) Griggs. After enquiring..... I was told that his plan was to merge Irthlingborough Diamonds with Rushden Town (I lived in Irthlingborough at the time).
To be fair to him, he financed a pretty good stadium......one that BRFC would have been proud of at the time. I visited in the the away end a few times after and remember the Jamie Forrester goal as if it was yesterday.
Alas the Diamond Centre is no longer there (what a shame). Rushden and Diamonds have ceased to exist....... A club relying on one benefactor...... I hope that we don't go the same way.

AFC Rushden and Diamonds do still exist - albeit they now share a ground with Wellingborough Town and play at the Dog and Duck in Wellingborough . Basically Griggs tried to buy Northampton Town but they rejected him and Rushden then asked him to get involved. He said that he would only do so if as you say he could merge Irthingborough Diamonds and Rushden Town FC and he was determined to get one over the Cobblers. The problem with any man made club is that they struggled to get a real fan base together. Griggs eventually gave the club to the fans when he decided to stop bankrolling them but the fans could not keep it going in Nene Park- their stadium. Kettering Town then moved into Nene Park and it almost sent them under though they relocated to Latimer Park where they still are. This and other useless facts ...

Yes Philli,
Note, I did say Rushden and Diamonds and not AFC Rushden and Diamonds..... I used to play squash at Skew Bridge Ski Club, but that's gone as well, but not the memories.
Roger Ashby was a great manager and his 2nd team manager Kenny Mist also, not sure where they are now?
I suppose Max G had a fair wad to invest...... wait and see on our new owners.....

Roger Ashby was a great player - a right back - but never went higher than top non league . Gerry Francis wanted him at Rovers and said so after a cup tie but they could not compete wage wise with what he was earning as a part timer at Kettering and having a job.
