Relegated to the National League North today.
Sad to see their demise from a side that reached the Championship and a very tough opponent for Rovers into a non league outfit who'll be facing the likes of Farsley Celtic and Spennymoor Town next year.
Have been keeping an eye on their results since the iconic 7-0 last season. With their new owners, HMRC bill settled and retained professional status, hopefully better things to come for their supporters.

We hadn’t talked about football, so imagine the look on his face when my son came in one day with Rovers kit on. His worst nightmare! Since then I’ve heard all about the goings on there and seen him go through the despair, the hope of the takeover and then the realisation in the last couple of weeks that they weren’t going to pull off the great escape. Poor bloke. Scunny have been in the championship as recently as 2011. Now they’ll be playing 6th tier football along with Yeovil. Long way back from there.

No matter who you are and what you did 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 25 years ago the unspeakable can still happen to you and your club if you don’t have the right people running and controlling your club. I think we are very fortunate but we must never become complacent. Keep trying to improve, keep trying to challenge in L1 but don’t put our existence at risk by over-spending with money we don’t have. Good luck to Scunthorpe (and Yeovil) as they both seek to fight their way back. I hope they are successful. (My tin hat is on!! 😉) UTG!

Really hope this turns out positively for them. Their fans were superb at at our place last season, I’m forever recalling the chanting of “we are going down! Say we are going down!” All the best to them for a reboot and glorious return and you know there is a hidden word in their name? If you take out the “r” it spells hope!

I feel sorry for the individual fans but there is a part of me which feels aggrieved while we were in the doldrums of league 2 for many a year, teams like Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Fleetwood and Crawley were up the leagues or tonking us at home.
Football is great in that anyone can do anything but it was humiliating.
With our support and all they’ve been through, still keeping the faith and averaging over 8k in an old ground, we’ve still not seen the champ since 1992, and spent most of those years in league 2. However as I say, it has gotta hurt going down another tier. I bear no ill will to scunny who conducted themselves with dignity at our place after a terrible defeat.

Scunthorpe is close to some huge teams and isn't the biggest town. Nice club though I thought.

It is not that long ago that Scunthorpe were perennial challengers at the top end of league 1, managed by i think Atkinson? he could not quite take them to the next level and after several near misses someone in there wisdom decided to change managers, it has been down hill ever since. perhaps they should have been grateful to be constantly challenging at the top end rather than risk all by chasing the rainbow? sad to see though.

We got relegated from the championship (equivalent) in 1993 In the last 30 years we have spent 17 seasons in league 1 12 seasons in league 2 and I can't seem to find what happened with the other season . So the majority of the time we have been in league 1. Although we have only ever been close to promotion to the championship twice 1995 (play off final, Gareth Taylor SMH) & 2000 (the great capitulation from promotion certainty).

We were lucky to bounce straight back, but I dread to think what would have happened had we not. I’m sure they will fight their way back into the league soon.

It sure FEELS like we have been in league 2 longer. Perhaps it’s because it’s such a drag every moment feels like forever. It certainly has been the case that we’ve gone from a solid league 1 team who never looked likely to go to 4th tier, to a league 2/1 rebound club. Feels like league 1 is wading through treacle now with the quality that’s in here. I think I’m thinking in terms of post the first relegation. Since the first Graydon years I’m convinced we’ve been basement more than league 1.

I never forget the words of some ape on the east terrace. “You’re a non league *ing manager and now you’ve got a non league club” We never will forget how deep you dug when the world was against you, and how you pulled the club back to where it should be. You left the place much better than you found it. Print that b******

Strange isn’t it, we’ve had some decent prolonged periods in League One but certainly doesn’t feel like it (at times) 2007-2011 & 2016 - 2021

Very sorry to see Scunthorpe go. I enjoyed my two visits there (we won both of them). I hope they get it together again and bounce back.

Disagree with the statement National league North is their right place. They have always been a football league team since I started watching in 1961 and I remember them finishing third in the old second division in the 1960's. There gates are no worse than a lot of teams.

Can't just be me who aligns Scunny as a twin club to Fleetwood - similar set up, similar looking place, similar attendances... Like a less modern versions of the Cods....
Anyway, best of luck to them bouncing back, joined in our party last summer in parts!

I hope they (Scunthorpe) do but I’m not sure they are in better condition than we were. Nick Higgs kept most things about us as a League club, budget, players etc. But Scunthorpe have quickly become non league with their players, training facilities and losing their youth team/academy. They have been heavily cut in most areas, hence their second relegation. And of course, as you say, the NL now is so hard to get out of, just look at how long Stockport, Wrexham, and others have taken years to recover. And most still haven’t fully recovered. I think Scunthorpe will find it hard to come back from the NLN a in their first year but good luck to them. UTG!
