So a mate of mine is a big Hearts fan in Edinburgh, and they have just sacked their manager Robbie Neilson. Today he tells me that Barton is interested in the Hearts job… ? I said well I haven’t heard anything that Barton wants to leave or heard any talk of it? So once I got home I googled Barton and hearts job, and there is a few articles from the papers saying he would like to Manage an Edinburgh club, to make amend for his spell at rangers. This could all be paper talk and just general gossip, but thought I would see if anyone on here could throw anymore light on the subject?

More to the point would Hearts ever risk appointing JB as their manager?

More to the point would Hearts ever risk appointing JB as their manager? Hearts are hardly a massive club with a big reputation at stake.

No one’s breaking the Glasgow stronghold up there. Would be an utterly pointless move for any one in JB’s position.

If true, can we vote for their independence?!

This is a non story if you read the article one of the Scottish papers referenced JB time at Rangers calling him a flop which JB replied perhaps I ought to go back to Scotland and manage Hibs Hearts or Aberdeen to ram it down Rangers throat

It was just a tongue-in-cheek comment that got jumped on by a couple of papers.

Apart from 4 games a season against Rangers and Celtic in a completely non competitive league, the rest of the time you're playing Ross County, Livingston, St Mirren, Kilmarnock etc, managing in the SPL is a complete backward step

Some very good managers have gone from Scottish football onto the English game, it could be a good stepping stone for Barton to go on and manager higher in the English pyramid if he was successful in the SPFL. And it would be 8 games against Celtic and Rangers, as they play each other twice home and away….more if you include cup ties.

A version of of a similar Scottish artical recently suggested Barton Needs to enhance his reputation in Scotland to kick on as manager.
Not sure scotlands view on Joey is giving him sleepless nights, but seems to have been a bit of media interest north of the border regarding Joey lately.
Just look at the number of Rubbish ex gas playing in Scotland’s top flight.
Be a big step down in my view.

All started with the story of Barton talking about managing Rangers but in the future. I don’t know their managers name but he didn’t /doesn’t get on with him and , i thinks, made a flippant comment about them needing him to sort things out

I think what you say used to be the case but I don't think so any more. How many managers in the Prem or football league have managed in Scotland? Are there any?

The level of Scottish football is really poor. There are only really two quality teams Celtic and Albion Rovers I would have thought any manager in L1 who has ambitions would look to the championship as the next step. I think Barton needs to prove himself more with us before anyone at a higher level would be interested. I would also think a number of teams would avoid him for the baggage that comes along with him. Don't get me wrong I think he has done wonders for us and if he were to leave I'd wish him well. I just can't see him taking a job in Scotland.

Brendon Roger’s just very quickly off the top of my head…but I’m sure there are lots if I had time to go through it. Not forgetting Sir Alex Ferguson who was very successful in English football.
