Easily done when you were born in the 90s or 00s.
I think this could easily have happened to us too.
Perhaps they’ll google the individuals in future.

I am not sure how anyone on the admin side was meant to pick this up. Is is a sad time when what on face value appears to be a simple congratulatary message hides something more sinister.
Do they have to reference google for every message for a hidden meaning?
I was thinking on Saturday how many million miles we are behind City as a club, not just the facilities and the players but also as people.
Look how they congratulated Burnley, the women's team with guards of honour and applauded their lap of honour and celebrated Geoff 20man.
Can you imagine us in the same scenario. FGR win promotion and several idiots confront them, the alledged attack on the Scunthorpe keeper etc. Its a good job Bolton are already in the play offs.
If Matty Taylor takes the time and trouble to play for free for charity in Marcus Stewarts game, what sort of reaction will he get, yet a lot of our players are not going to put themselves out to be there apparently.
I hope I haven't spoilt any surprise for Geoff but I would hope the club would do something to honour what great service he has given to Bristol sport, especially the blue half.

Admin are meant to pick up on these things as its there job. Did the Burnley fans run on the pitch to celebrate, no as they had already won promotion and won the league so totally different atmosphere as we still had something to play for not that I'm justifying what our fans did just a complete different scenario. Who should we have given a guard of honour to? And GT will be at our ground next week so who knows what plans we have for him. But hey ho anything for a dig at our club.

Exactly, it looks harmless enough and I’m not sure how to avoid it. The younger employees of any company i/c of communication may not know the historical relevance of certain names. And I’ve known several people who’ve shared names with infamous criminals and murderers and it’s difficult for them. Of course the name of the cemetery gave a bit more of the context but it’s a scam that could have happened to any club I’d have thought. I expect they’ll put in some controls which may or may not work, before the next time something goes wrong. With everything being done electronically now it makes incidents like this more likely. UTG!

The club didn't pick it up. Without really checking every message in depth some will get through. They've noted it and will look into it. Despite my hatred of the 82ers this is no more than one idiot getting through. Overeation from the OP. How many of our supporters sing the song with the IRA line in it and just as important how many don't shout them down.

Again agree nothing to see here, and those idiots that sing the IRA song game after game need to cut it out, pathetic, I’d shout it down but thankfully it’s not sang on the East Terrace.

Ah yes, the famous Ashton Gate gentlemen. They’ve never attacked young fans and women after conceding a late equaliser or tried to burn down our stadium.

I mean, even if you’ve no idea about the IRA or historic goings on in that department (like myself) the message itself doesn’t exactly make sense. Surely it would’ve been questioned soon as it landed in the inbox?

I think you do the vast majority of our fans a dis-service sir, the scenarios you reference are totally different, Bristol City have plenty of idiots as fans and on balance i much prefer the culture of Bristol Rovers to that of our neighbours, each to their own though.

Also says something about the nature or mentality of some of their fan base The message may well have been sent in from somebody who is not part of their fanbase, to be honest I think it could just as easily have happened to us.

I get that it could have easily happened to us but could you imagine the uproar if Lance read that out at half time. It is a risky thing to do send in messages to go out on a board and is open to abuse. That's why someone is employed to stop this from happening and all messages have surely got to be checked.

Sorry they never let our Babestation go so why should we let this one go. They always love taking the moral highground but I’m afraid they have to take this one on the chin - the gift that keeps giving

They always love taking the moral highground but I’m afraid they have to take this one on the chin - the gift that keeps giving There’s a difference from not letting something go as a bit of banter and calling them out for a mortal sin for something that could happen to any club at any time. The context is markedly different, putting a bit of dirty TV on a bar TV full of people over the age of 18 (humorous side to it) vs letting a vile person mock the murder of a number of people (hard to see the funny side)
