From what I understand it was intended originally as the other way around, in that amenities would be built locally to prevent the need for most people to have to travel further. You know, what sounds like a reasonable idea in principle. Unfortunately it appears to have been perverted, or the intention of it has, by people who can't seem to be happy unless they find reason to feel oppressed or controlled. People like Rickie Lambert who has disappeared down a rabbit hole having been influenced by another loon, Matt Le Tissier.
I'm also sceptical by nature, but hopefully not past the point of reason and know several friends who've joined similar 'movements' and are unfortunately beyond help. I used to challenge them regularly, but the only response I'd tend to get would be 'do your own research' and they were unable to provide anything other than links to weird YouTube channels.
COVID was hard for us all to accept, and I genuinely believe that the fear it created produced a level of paranoia past the point of logic or reason for some. It just simply couldn't be happening. Cue wild and dangerous theories on pretty much everything.
One of the friends I referred to, an otherwise rational and functioning member of society (other than being a Ted 😂) is convinced the earth is flat. There is genuinely no way of convincing him otherwise and he seeks evidence of this (there's plenty of wild evidence out there) to reinforce his beliefs. Pre COVID his interests were football, rugby and motor sport. And no, he hasn't had the jab before you ask 😀

Now that would be a twist I didn't see coming 😀

If your freedom is altered by the government for reasons that you disagree with, why tarnish those people? Aren't they allowed to express their feelings?
I can see how they are labelled. The same way kids with modern diagnosed illnesses were just 'naughty' pre 90s.

The gaschat term is 'loon' or oldie suggesting people(me)are thick, just for deviating from the official narrative.

I dont really trust the politicians and some of their good ideas. I find myself doing the opposite quite often and it works pretty well. Covid jabs being an example.

I was just thinking about what the concerns were when I was a kid, and the big paranoid concern was the bomb and Russia. It used to worry the hell out of me. I think I then began to get an interest in the CND, and politics, by way of protest I suppose. I presume I felt that at least I was doing something to address my worries about the world.
It seems anti-establishment these days is quite often conspiracy fueled. With the idea that EVERYTHING we're told is untrue, to an almost ridiculous extent.
Politicians seem to have lost touch with much of the country which doesn't help with that, so many seek answers to the source of their anxiety down YouTube rabbit holes
