Bath City. FA cup 1994. Good laugh to start with the crowd mixed. Rovers fans in home and away end giving each other some stick. Grantley Dicks playing for Bath. Remember thinking before kick off if he was anything like his brother. Was proved right. Even though I was 8 I still remember the 82 World Cup semi final. France v West Germany. For those saying 'west?' go and have a look. Battiston v Schumacher. The injuries more shocking than the incident. No foul given

Carayol getting booted knee high into the dugout during that Totton FA Cup Tie when we had it sewn up inside 5mins live on Tele.
Also Carayol getting cut in half away to Accrington in the same season, straight red for their lad. It was a shocker.

James Cotterill v Sean Rigg. Technically not a tackle, just assault

I think it’s terrible typecasting and stereotyping to assume Jock was a violent player just because he’s a moustached Glaswegian. Jock absolutely did not fit that mould. He was a classy and cultured player who thrived on sportsmanship and fair play. It's almost like saying the English would never stereotype folks from elsewhere. Oh...wait. Anyway, great that Ian Alexander is beloved of Rovers fans who have obviously forgiven past domestic misdeeds.

Anyway, great that Ian Alexander is beloved of Rovers fans who have obviously forgiven past domestic misdeeds. In comparison with the god knows how many other places I’ve lived I’d say it’s a vastly reduced issue here. England is pretty tolerant tbf, what it doesn’t have is an openness to experience. People here are less discriminatory generally but the west as a whole has a minor God complex in believing our system is supreme and an ignorance of the ROW and seems to think everyone lives in mud huts and they can’t learn from them. But stereotyping/tolerance I’ve witnessed is stronger elsewhere, is my take. We will walk 50 miles to avoid causing offence but have little interest in others cultures. Many other places will tell you straight to your face things which are deeply offensive but then eagerly listen to you about your country and then try and learn your language. A lot of Asia in particular, manners are shown with actions not words. They will tell you that you are looking old and need to lose weight straight up, and then invite you to a banquet free of charge and absolutely refuse for you to leave or buy a round, whilst continuing to explain your shortcomings. English people generally are exquisitely polite in contrast but after your first 2 drinks will start asking to split the bill.

He knocked it round the player to chase after and the guy just decided he wasn’t getting past and tackled him knee high about 10 yards from the ball!

Blizzard tackle on that Charlton player, in the first couple of minutes. That was a really bad one.

Not a bad tackle, but Luton's Julian James actually kicked Barry Hayles in a mistimed tackle and it was his leg that snapped.
I thought I could see his shin pad stick out of the side of his sock, but it was his tibula. Horrible injury. Remember he got a massive round of apply from the Gas as he was stretchered off.
The adrenaline kicked in immediately but it was very similar to David Busst for Coventry who had a double fracture v Man Utd. Saw Busst when he was assistant manager for a Tamworth area type club v the Mighty Mangoes and still walked with a massive limp some 20 years later.

Was it Peter Schmeichel that was physically sick seeing Busst’s injury? It was a gruesome injury but I think because it was an open fracture that got infected which is what made it career ending. Without the infection he’d have had a good chance of a full recovery like Luke Shaw. I remember Luc Nilis having a bad one for Aston Villa that ended his career too. Regarding Rovers one of the worst tackles I’ve seen was Gordon Armstrong (I think) on Kenny Hibbitt - deliberate, dangerous and cowardly. I’m sure that spurred on the rest of the team to beat top of the table Sunderland 4-0 that night.

Nearly killed the bloke and play restarted with a goal kick! I’m pretty sure the two players faced each there again in the 1986 WC. I’d imagine Battiston didn’t go near Schumacher !!

My brother had a broken femur which ended his army career. Had a year in hospital and left with one leg shorter than the other and with back problems as a result.

The collision was so late the ref and linesman were ball watching. Ref later said that if he'd seen it he would have probably given a red card.... probably! For a period of time Schumacher was voted as frances biggest enemy, ahead of Hitler. Even today there are varying reports on any reconciliation. 40 years on and he still has back problems

Luc Nilis one was live on sky, chased his keepers kick right into the opposition area, made a lunge for the ball as the keeper was right on top of him. If I remember rightly he’s swung for the ball as if he’s going to smash a volley in, but connected with the keepers leg instead. His own completely shattered to the point it looked like it was made of rubber🤢🤮they showed the replay numerous times, truly horrific.

I remember watching Dave Smith play for Notts County at Twerton and Geoff Twentyman wiped him out. We were sure a red card was to follow but he got away with a yellow. May have been the relegation season in 93 when we let a 3-1 lead slip

Gerry Harrison on Browning in the 4-0 demolition job “Just a yellow I think and nothing more”🤣🤣🤣 It's funny we remember the Jock incidents as he was first and foremost a bloody good player and had a good battle vs City. The Gerry Harrison tackle was worse than any but if not for that clip I'd have needed google to remember his name as I'm sure would most City fans
