Similar with my experience, I would differentiate between Paris and France. I suspect this is something associated with large capital cities and countries as a whole and probably not specific to Paris. Normandy is a lovely area. It is Stuart and i am off there, on the 26th until the 30th. It will be the first time i have gone , without dad so i expect it to be an emotional experience. I honestly think that it should be part of every school curriculum to visit the battle sites and war graves and i am getting more and more concerned that each new generation are not only forgetting but do not wish to know of that history. I think it would be very educational and also give some perspective to many It’s important our children are aware of past wars but time moves on and wallowing on happened 80 odd yrs ago is OTT in my opinion. It’s also a bit depressing for the kids .

KP has a close family association with this part of history, and as someone who has a interest in this too, I would be happy if it's depressing for the children, it'll make them think and reflect. Plenty of humour and ingenuity too for what it's worth. Happy to discuss via PMs or a dedicated thread elsewhere as we are drifting off topic.

Well this has gone off on a tangent and a self absorbed one at that.
Sean (Clevedon) has already said that the new owner will be interviewed on the pitch on Saturday. No doubt,he will assuage some of the concerns raised.

It’s also a bit depressing for the kids . I try to take onboard all opinions but i think that when you see those hundreds of thousands of graves, come back to Blighty and see LEST WE FORGET then i think even a young mind can take that in. What is most disappointing, for me in any case, is asking the simplest of questions, for example, who was prime minister during the last world war and to get a shrug of the shoulders and a laissez Faire attitude upsets me for it has been proven and many times, that when people do forget, the same things are very likely to happen. I am most disappointed with the youth than ever i was and the Mrs kids cannot even answer the most basic of historical questions. I’d rather they were educated but maybe bored by it than be ignorant of those things but then, that is just my opinion. Not everything in this world is fairy dust and joyful. Kids are tough, tougher than many give them credit for. I get most embarrassed when I speak to the Dutch, German, French and Belgian kids. Then even tend the war graves as part of their school curriculum and then, some if them even enjoy it. I am a member of several such facebook groups and am always stunned at the level of detail that these kids knows about each battle theat ended uo with the liberation of Europe from the nasties, but, again, i will add each to their own

Did I say it did?! Just commenting, as is all our rights. Not complaining. Chill, if it was a complaint, it would have been worded as one. Fair enough, i can only speak for myself in that it’s an emotional time of year four me. Sometimes it helps if I ask able to share a few of my thoughts. I'm enjoying the tangent, as an outsider listening in to your conversation about Normandy, War, France and Parisians!

You could always write something in GC on the subject and keep the threads as on track as they could be? Then those who don’t have much interest in French, history, Poland or any other topic may comment more. Just saying.

Did I imagine it, or did they say that the new guy will be CEO? I thought that was Tom’s role, however, I am easily confused by change.

I like the way threads sometimes drift as they are, more often than not, educational and it’s hurting no one. I believe it’s important to get a wide range of opinions to have a balanced view of life. I particularly like this forum because of the wide range of content that is created by humans (some with possibly more than 4% Neanderthal DNA) rather than an algorithm driven platform creating an ever narrowing feedback loop. It’s the bickering that I find tedious!
