I predicted this in the Barnsley match day thread. Gibbo is injured and Hoole isn’t good enough IMO as a defender so what does Barton do? Both the Portsmouth and Barnsley goals can be attributed to Hoole and not only that I noticed him not willing to go in for tackles on Saturday, that’s criminal as a full back. He should be making life hard for the winger he’s playing against. He’s also weak at the back post and the Portsmouth goal isn’t the first chance he’s conceded in that area.
For me how we play this season with full backs staying back more with the 2 centre halves and 2 holding midfielders, (whilst letting the front 4 loose), would suit Gibbons over Hoole. I love a no nonsense player giving it all. I think he’s a better defender. Trouble is with him getting a knock and (I think it was Mangs who said it) only recently back on the grass means Barton may feel we need someone else with Hoole not doing so well. What that means for any of Hoole or Gibbo I don’t know, I read rumours on Twitter back in the summer of port vale wanting to buy Gibbo back. Maybe Hoole would stay as we can get money for him being an academy lad.
Would Hunt be a short term solution for just this season, as someone said he’s 33 soon?
You could also copy and paste that entire statement to the left back area too with Friend injured and Gordon and Grant maybe not the answer there.

Reminiscent of the Mark Little signing if this goes through. Let’s hope he can keep himself fit, sounds like he has bags of experience and higher level quality. Difference is Hunt has played quite a bit of football where Little had played about 10 games a year for the 2 years previous. |

Agree this is a good signing for experience and different option, disagree hugely with those saying Hoole isnt good enough. Improving all the time and will only benefit more from some experienced competition.

Right back I’d agree, think I’d prioritise a DCM over a left back if honest, and we desperately need a CF who offers us something different…. Loft is not the answer and I’d be happy for him if he could secure a decent move (League 2 probably his level) I’m glad JB seems to be looking at good solid experience at the back to help along our young defence. We now have Hoole, Beefy, Taylor and Gordon as our own, the future is bright but they will need older heads to navigate this tough old league UTG |

RB cover would be good. And we must still be looking for a ‘goal poacher’ type forward as we went all out for Alfie May but didn’t get him (although admittedly not an easy position to recruit to as they don’t come cheap so can see us gambling on a loan). |

Majority of comments on Wednesday forum say his legs have gone now but I'd be happy with him as cover for hoole as let's face it gibbons is never going to be consistently fit and needs moving on.

Would be okay with this on a short term / one year deal for sure. Probably slightly better if not on par performance levels with Luca. I just worry this is a signal a Cardiff or Swansea are sniffing around Hoole. Unless Gibbons injury is worse than initially expected or he is off to L2 or Port Vale perhaps?
